Absolutely it is real. It isn't neccessarily related to age of weaning either, moreso a personality/temp and environment reaction. Like a child sucking their thumb is comfroted by the action, many dogs who lick are comforted by the licking. There are many reasons though. I have floor and clothing licker. He does it due to an OCD brought on by his illness. I have had several leg/paw lickers who did it initially possibly due to stress and who then developed a habit and need for it. There are ways to stop it if it is causing issues.

Yeah, like the average person can trust a drug company. I guess the companies making annual vaccines are also still on the right track according to that theory, even though it has now been shown that we have been over vaccinating dogs?
-
Definitely possible, although I'd think not common.
-
Maybe it is coccidia (sp?) and not parvo?
-
The drug is mixed and it's a furphy put out by the pharmaceutical company saying it isn't mixed evenly I would guess. My Vets advised me to buy the larger size for my dogs and give them half each every 6 weeks. It has worked for me for around 3 or 4 years now and worked for my rescue as well. I do not dose during Winter at all either.

This post says it all.

I've heard of different natural methods but have never tried any. One of my boys, Monte, is an epileptic and was diagnosed almost 9 years ago. He has cluster seizures. He is on phenobarbital (pb) and another drug known as potassium bromide (kbr). He has continued to experience regular clusters however his whole life. It is vital, as someone above said, that the pb is given at regular 12 hour intervals. Pb levels drop very quickly in the system and this leaves them at risk of more seizures. I am sure you were told, but I'll repeat it in case you haven't been, keep your dog cool during and after seizure activity as the body temp rises when they have a seizure.

I am not a fan of collars on dogs unless they are being walked. I am not a fan of collars for any purpose on my breed, the Pug, however each to their own.

"backyard Breeders" Posing As Purebred Breeders
~Anne~ replied to lushos's topic in General Dog Discussion
A byb is generally defined as a non ankc registered breeder. It has nothing to do with them providing the dog's pedigree paperwork. A registered breeder who fails to provide a pedigree with an entire dog is just a stupid and unethical registered breeder. -
I have 2 males and 1 female. No issues at all though one of the males is often challenged by the bitch. It is actually difficult to pick the alpha between the two. The other male just goes with the flow.

How To Stop A Dog Cocking His Leg On Everything.

I have had success with using lavender oil on the popular spots after cleaning thoroughly first. -
3 Pugs - Monte, Boofy and Olivia.

Wow, the average longevity is rather low. Although the sames numbers are relatively short.
-
Unless you use bleach or F10 you are wasting your time cleaning anything. Ask the Vet for a bottle of F10 or make a bleach mix (hopefully someone else will post ratio as my brain is dead at the moment). It is VERY important to note that nothing else will kill parvo.

Is Tony ok or is he winding down toward retirement? He helped me with one of my rescue Pugs (he also has a few himself). He was fabulous.

Council Seizing & Destroying Staffy's
~Anne~ replied to Saffioraire's topic in General Dog Discussion
These new laws sicken me. Every time I read a thread like this it horrifies me. Dog help the innocent in this mess. -
It is up to the person wanting the dog back to prove they are the 'rightful owner' though. The dog has not lived with that person for 12 months and there is evidence they gave the dog away. Your advice is incorrect in this instance hellier.
-
Should have registered the dog with the council as this helps to show responsible pet ownership, not that the dog is just being looked after for a while. Unless the mircochip was sorted out, the dog would not have been able to be registered under a different name. The database is a combined one in NSW.
-
Exactly. Also, a microchip record DOES NOT constitute legal claim to a dog. However, to enable the chip to be registered in their name is going to be very difficult unless the old owner agrees to do it or a court determines ownership. Edited to add - tell them not to hand over the dog until it is sorted legally. Although not 100% accurate, the saying that possession is 9/10ths of the law is not far off with some matters.
-
But for the issues it would cause, with yet another way to 'judge' a peer, I can't see it be worth it because of the low numbers in such situations for 99% of breeds. Besides which, a dog ending up in a rescue does not mean that it was homed with poor judgement or lack of judgement. Some of the Pugs that were surrendered to me came from exceptionally good homes that experienced situations outside of their control. The issue of dogs in pounds needs to be looked at broadly, and not with such a fine focus. We need statistics collected on the origins of all dogs in pounds. not one single tiny group.
-
I can't see any point in the collection of such data other than to prove the obvious. I think it is already an accepted fact that the overwhelming majority of dogs 'at risk' are not purebred dogs.
-
One of those 'faulty sites' is possibly mine (Pug Rescue Sydney). I closed my rescue almost 2 years ago but it is impossible to remove reference to it all over the web. As Clyde has said above, speak with Denise at Paws Rescue. www.paws.com.au

I see you are in NSW Merci. In addition to the excellent advise offered above, I would recommend you ring the NSW Pug Club and enquire about Pug shows. They are often held around Sydney, and larger ones in particular, are an excellent way of meeting a lot of breeders in one day. That way you can speak to many different breeders and see their Pugs as well. Castle Hill Showground and Erskine Park are 2 venues that may be within distance for you.

We get lots of weirdos - some so weird you think you are being set up .He didnt contact me personally - as a beagle breeder but the MDBA asking if any of our members bred puggles Ahh, of course, I see the link now.
