  1. I often wonder how often chips and pups are mixed up. I'm sure it must happen.
  2. In my opinion the OP doesn't want to reveal pound names or locations because they know they are waxing lyrical about the subject. This seems to be a trend of the newcomers on this forum in recent times. The creation of many threads and a post count that skyrockets in a short time and an inability to accept that others will offer opinions in opposition to theirs. I so miss the discussions of previous times.
  3. All states are different. I think Tas is still actually offering 6 weeks as the gernal rule although this may have been updated. Most states only have guidelines on ages, not law.
  4. There are antiseptic products that you can buy to deter licking that you spray on the wound. To be honest though, the Elizabethan collar is probably the most effective.
  5. I think you need to learn to accept that others hold differing opinions and that on a public forum you will undoubtedly have your opinions challenged. You've jumped on everyone here that has offered anything different to what you think including telling people that the are not reading what you have said and yet you tell me that I am being rude. As I said, whilst it is ok to say that people should follow the law, and I agree with this, it is not ok to give them reasons why they should follow the law that are false.
  6. Do I like cats - definitely. At times I think they're better than dogs... at other times I think they're not. As I get older I think I prefer cats but the thought of building a run or simialr to contain them doesn't excite me... so cats are now out of the question since my gorgeous Miss Molly passed.
  7. If you don't want alternative opinions, don't post. Btw, I am not rude, just blunt. Whilst it is ok to say that people should follow the law (I totally agree with this) it is not ok to give them reasons why they should follow the law that are false. Dogs do die in pounds and more dogs are lost than are ever found again.
  8. I'm not sure what world you live in but yours sure is different to mine. Most pounds do equate to euthanasia although this is changing and some are doing it better than others. As for more being returned, I can't agree with that generalisation either. I live in a world in which I work closely with pounds on a day to day level. Of course pounds do have surrenders who often don't make it, but of the animals that come in lost, most are returned. Really? I guess LDH has picked up its game then. I would add a rolling eye emoticon here but people seem to despise it so.... Victoria is well known the have the most archaic animals laws in Australia and given that microchip identification was only made mandatory fairly recently in the scheme of things, I think you live in a fantasy world.

  10. Kiama. Affordable housing. Beaches, ocean and river together. 8 different coastal leash free areas. Some areas are time restricted whilst others aren't. See here: www.kiama.nsw.gov.au/environment-services/pdf/Rangers/Dog-Off-Leash-brochure.pdf
  11. Wouldn't it still be under warranty after a year? I am sure mine has a longer warranty. I love my Roomba and use her very regularly.
  12. I feed twice a day exactly 12 hours apart due to Monte's needs and his meds.
  13. It's American, although I do concede that similar scenes would play out here. I think people overall need to learn customer service skills if they deal with 'customers' of any type. The world is lacking in customer service skills in this day and age.
  14. Aphra, I agree so much with what you have posted. I see so much energy wasted with many current campaigns, meanwhile, dogs keep ending up in pounds and dogs keep dying in pounds. I think the issue of cats in pounds and dogs in pounds is very different too. They share some commonalities but the strategies to correct the issue would neeed to suit each species, and not smething that is lumped together for both.
  15. I'd love one of these if it would work on Monte when he starts crying at 4.30am. It wouldn't work though, only a miracle will save him I think! He's untrainable.
  16. Head firmly in sand with this breed and one or two others. I was smacked by Troy for saying a similar thing in the past so I think I'll just leave it at that.
  17. You can't answer such a complex situation with a poll like this.

    Gillie

RIP Gillie. I am so sorry.
  19. I also psted this in the rescue thread about the same thing. It seems it is exaggerated and it applies to the US. http://www.foxnews.c...y-be-dangerous/
  20. I'd agree that there would be multiple causes and I think that although there may be common ground, the reason behind a breeder leaving the hobby and a potential breeder not taking up the hobby, would be two different things as well. Either way, promotion and support would assist regardless of the outcome of a reveiw. A reveiw would be the first step in the right direction though.
  21. The same is found on Pug forums. They crate their dogs 24/7 if no-one is home to watch them. I find that horrifying. Crates certainly serve a purpose, but not this. To be fair, in some states in the US they have birds and wild animals (coyotes I beleieve) that I am told will come into your yard and drag your dog off. This is moreso if they are young. Ive had many a debate about this concept before. On one hand we are fighting to treat zoo animals better and let them out of cages, fighting to stop the caged abuse of dogs in puppy farms and on the other we tell people they are abusive and negligent owners for letting a dog be a dog and smell fresh air. How bizarre. My own dogs would much prefer to be inside with me. However, they need sun, they need fresh air and they need to be dogs so I put them out every day when I leave home unless it is really hot, really cold or raining.
  22. Its not about support its about over regulation. Breeders arent walking away because the ANKC doesnt support them. Unless you actually suvey breeders you haven't any real evidence about why they are walking away. Chances are, it could be that they feel óver regulated' but by the same token, that doesn't mean that promotion and or support won't turn things around. Further, what is stopping new breeders coming into the fold? I can't see that the same influences would affect both groups. Much like the debate about the originating source of dogs in pounds, unless a fact finding mission is instigated to determine the actual lay of the land, and a considered and appropriate approach is taken based on those findings, the rot wont stop.
  23. If the right support was provided, it would also slow the decline of breeders. It all works together. Breeders need support. Currently, there is inadequate support and promottion it seems.
  24. I'd agree with the niche market point if (and this is the crux of the issue) the numbers of purebred dogs remained steady. They are in decline so the niche market is not actually a niche market, but a dying one.
  25. The worst with Pugs is the fact that it affects their breathing. If she hasn't needed oxygen she's going well! I have known 3 pugs to die from ticks and all as a result of severe breathing issues. Just on the weekend my Vet was relaying the story to me of a recent case with a pug where they had to perform an emergency tracheotomy. The good news was that he survived apparently.
