You're not actually registering with the local Council though, it is just that the local Council administers the register. In NSW, registration and microchipping is a whole government process ie NSW legislation, not local Council.
-
Hi Ness1409 Yep. Its all very confusing. What you have to do is register you dogs with your local council. They will update the microchip details on the Qld registry. If you move to NSW then you will have to register the dogs again with the council from the area you are living in and they will update the microchip details. However, if you are travelling then the last recorded registry will need contact details. This is how it works in NSW, but here in QLD the council registration has nothing to do with the microchip, you actually have to do it separately I wish there was just one national register, that would make life SOOOO much easier In Vic council rego has nothing to do with the m/c either. Best thing to do is register with one company, I would recommend either Central Animal Records or National Pet Register, anyone in Australia at a pound etc will be able to check all 5 registries. Ehh Sorry if I muddied the waters over this. Council Registration has nothing to do with the NSW Companion Animals Register that records microchip details either. I should have said that you could have it done at the same time. The council should have access to the registry. They do have Rangers afterall. Px Actually it does have a lot to do with the NSW Companion Animals Register. Way to confuse someone guys! Ness - as you have realised, there are several registries. Basically, NSW has their own and most people with access to the NSW registry WILL NOT check all other registries. The CAR registry (not to be confused with the NSW CAR) is a national database and to my knowledge, is accessed more often by all states than most other registries. I would definitely add my dog's details to this registry. To my knowledge, and this may be incorrect, you cannot add your dogs details to the NSW CAR unless you reside in NSW. COntact the NSW Department of Local Government for advice on this to confirm. While you are doing all this, send of a few pointed emails about the stupidity of not having a nationally recognised SINGLE database too!

I adore my dogs but the thought of having them in my bed makes me shudder.

Rescue Lumping Breederswith Byb And Pet Shops

This and in other threads. It happened to me on another thread and I was wodnering if I'd had too many shandys on Xmas day for a few minutes before I realised what had happened. -
My 3 sleep in their own beds in the living room.

That's gorgeous. I am so happy it was a happy outcome.

As a rescuer, I allowed people who rented to adopt but they had to provide me with a written staement from the Agent and or owner of the property stating the they dog was a) allowed on the property and b) allowed inside the house. If they couldn't provide this, then they couldn't adopt.

What Breeds / X-breeds Show Up In Shelters?
~Anne~ replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
On the other hand a Staffy X Lab will almost always be listed as a Lab X . . . to improve chances of adoption. The high frequency SBTs and SBT-X's makes sense because: 1. the SBT is one of the most common pedigree dogs in Australia (#1 in puppy registrations in 2010) and 2. Where I've lived in WA, the entire males I had to fend off when my girls came in season were mostly SBT's or SBT-like. Lots of people who get staffies seem to like 'em with balls on . . . and SBT's tend to be clever at escaping / breaking in (especially chain link fences). p.s. I've spent many hours looking at pound and shelter listings . . . but it would be good to be able to say something stronger than "my impression based on looking at pound listings". Social data are almost always inaccurate . . . but collected data tend to be more accurate than anecdotes. And that is why we need to petition the Government to collect accurate stats and data on the origin of dogs in pounds. -
What Breeds / X-breeds Show Up In Shelters?
~Anne~ replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it largely depends on the area the pound is in. For example, Renbury seems to have a higher number of fluffy and pom types because of the Asian, Italian and Yugoslav ethnic majorities. They tend to like these breeds. Blacktown in my view seems to get a lot of staffs, ridges and other bull and similar breeds because of the demographics in their council areas, whilst regional pounds I'd think would get ample working type breeds and their crosses. Whilst running a breed specific rescue, I had no problems with breeders willing to take back the Pugs they had bred if need be. In fact I argued with a few because I wasn't planning on giving them back and I had only phoned to alert them as a courtesy to the dog's circumstance. Most Pugs that I picked up from pounds appeared to be byb whereas the majority of surrenders I took in were pedigree and papered. -

Wow, that PETA nutter ad is bizarre. How does anyone ever take this mob seriously? -

The simple fact is that dog overpopulation is a myth and it is only those who believe this myth to be truth that are against further breeding of dogs. Sorry, haven't read the thread so I hope I haven't repeated anything already said. -
I was also going to ask where Blacktown RSPCA are? I think you might mean Blacktown Pound. Perhaps ACD Rescue can squeeze him in. If he is in Blacktown, they'll hear of him.
-
And the collusion inference made by you wasn't insulting? Good grief.
-
so rude. There's that pot, kettle and black scenario again and, once again, you react when people offer an opposing opinion. Maybe you need to take a good look at yourself in the mirror. . See I added a smiley too.
-
Precisely. You have just described a very legitimate and realistic scenario as well. My dogs, Pugs, are very, very, very sociable. They are a breed known for their social and docile nature. However, they're dogs. They still will have a grumble if need be and they are often attacked by other dogs who are normally social dogs and not aggressive simply because they do not read canine body language well.
-
Yes please! Love the idea.
-
My dogs are not a menace to society. My dogs do not require temp testing. My dogs are not trained. My dogs can safely mingle with other dogs. I don't need someone telling me I have to obedience train my dogs and have them temp tested just so I can take them out in public. I don't need more regulations introduced that will not be policed and will, in the long run, cause more headaches for me (ie a responsible dog owner who just wants to own a bloody dog!) when the irresponsible will continue to be irresponsible... and shock of all shocks, dogs will act like dogs and do things that dogs have always done and will always do regardless.
-
Yes, lets introduce more restrictions for dog ownership.
-
Geebus, glad they didn't succeed. What a horrible world it has become when you have to keep dogs under lock and key.
-
Sorry, I simply don't have time to continue in such a petty conversation with you Blackdog. When and if I have the time I will post the statistics that show that less than 40% (approx) of animals are reclaimed in Victorian pounds and that more than 1/3 of all dogs impounded are killed. However, you can continue to throw your opinion around about most being happily reunited if it keeps you feeling good, and making petty little accusations up about anyone who offers a different view.

It is commonly used by pound staff to id the database the chip is registered with, it is a wonderful too. Except for NSW chips and given mandatory chipping has been in for many, many years in NSW, that's a lot of dogs and cats that won't show on it.
-
This actually happened to me personally. Monte's details were never entered onto the NSW CAR. Thankfully it was discovered when I was checking rescue dog chips still registered to me and the list of dogs under my details did not include one of my own. The chip system, as others have said, is far from perfect and a lot of improvements could be made very simply. Even creating 1 single national database would be a logical start. One day..... one day.
-
Usually what happens is if you contact your registered database with a chip number, they can check any other databases in the state for you. If it's registered to an interstate database, they may not be able to check the details but they can give you the name of the database so that you can contact them directly. It's usually a pretty sound system, but as mentioned earlier, complications do arise. Sorry, in pounds the normal course of action is nothing like you describe and I am getting a little tired of you effectively telling me to suck eggs on this. When a stray dog comes in the staff do not check every database. As for accusing you of lying, you are being a drama queen. I asked you what world you lived in because your explanations and comments were not realistic and were incorrect. You've made your way through this thread patting people on the head with smilies and condescending agreement comments if they say something you like and you have passive aggressively reacted to any comment that isn't to your liking. Your statements about lost dogs being returned, and chips, are based on opinion and you state them as fact. My comments are based on FACTS and after many years debating, researching, working in and being an advocate for change in animal welfare issues I find your posts offensive and your accusations way off base.
-
Not to mention the different microchip databases and the fact that most only check the database relevant to their state. As families become more transient, so do dogs.
