  1. It's the same with Pug Dog Encephalitis which is becoming more common in Aus but is very common in other countries. With luck our breeders will ensure this horrible condition remains in the 'not so common' category here.
  2. Sorry, didn;t see this thread and had just posted in the Pug thread. I hope he is found soon and is found safe and well. I can't imagine what horrors are going through your mind. I have posted the info on a few Pug FB pages and ask that it be reposted everywhere. I didn't see it until this morning on Ruth's thread.
  3. Great news. I hope the man is tracked down and charged. Although with our cruelty laws, chances are not much will happen.
  4. I haven't vaccinated my dogs for many years and I ran a rescue. As per stormies post, to my understanding, the fact that they came into contact with various diseases via the rescues, their immunity would be higher/stronger. It's all a matter of risk control.
  5. Agree with this. On the positive side, at least she stood up to what she thought was animal cruelty. Many people would turn the other cheek.
  6. I would be very wary of handing over any cash for the $900 dog. As pointed out, there would be a reason the dog (if it exists) is being offered for less than half what the going rate is. Most Pugs I see advertised at greatly reduced prices are scams. Don't pay over the Internet and ask to personally visit the pup and view the paperwork before letting any cash leave your hands.
  7. But what about donating goods to a person operating a service that is their hobby? The goods are not solicited in any way.
  8. Thanks Jill, I was hoping to clarify the 'goods' donation bit though, instead of cash. Does anyone know?
  9. Wow, well done Dxenion. What a worthy nominee. I hope you get the support you need. Is there anywhere that gifts to help you can be sent?
  10. Meh, is that even if you do not actively seek donations of any type? To my knowledge, the things I was given were gifts not donations. Not sure if you recall the text on my website that you created for my rescue. There was never any mention of needs, wish lists, donations or anything remotely similar.
  11. I operated as a hobby and refused financial contributions. I was happy to accept goods for the dogs though, such as bowls, food or blankets.
  12. I hope it doesn't make it here.
  13. I can't choose 5 because I find myself choosing the ones that I know I like for many reasons, not just looks.
  14. Kitt hasn't been ignored any more than anyone else. It's a discussion. People have put forward views, just as Kitt has. His/her comments are just as relevant as anyone else's.
  15. Crisovar, this is an internet discussion. That's all. No-one here is able to change anything as individuals. There have been some fabulous and relevant points made about image that are certainly worthwhile looking at. Change for change sake or resistance for resistance sake? Sounds the same really, doesn't it.
  16. I had a large number of Pugs surrendered to my rescue when it was in operation. By far the most common reason was at first offered as "He's not happy and we feel we are neglecting him". The scenario: Boy meet girl. Boy and girl buy a Pug puppy. Boy and girl marry. Girl has baby. Pug puppy, now adult of a few years, is put outside to live because the baby might get plastered in Pug hair. Pug becomes miserable and boy and girl feel bad. Boy and girl surrender Pug. The reason was because the baby took precedent over the dog. I assume this scenario was so common in my Pug rescue was because of the amount of hair they shed.
  17. A great post that explains the issue very well. To be honest, I can't fathom why it is so offensive to some in this thread. Should nothing ever change in the world of breeding? Is breeding dogs so perfect that nothing should ever be considered or even discussed lest it upset some? To be fair, I can understand that some think they are forever under attack regardless of what they do though but the reactions in this thread work against them and simply reinforce poor perceptions. I agree Crisovar, personally I find the term 'furbaby' far more offensive than 'pet quality'. Although I agree with the sentiment you have expressed about the term 'furbaby', the term 'pet quality' isn't offensive, but it may be sending a negative message about the product (in this case a puppy). Whereas the term 'furbaby' gives another message all together in my view.
  18. I agree that the term pet quality, in a marketing sense, actually conveys the message 'not good enough'. It's not a slight against breeders to state such a thing. The consumer market evolves and changes constantly and so marketing messages are changed accordingly. Whilst the term may not necessarily be used in a marketing sense specifically it is part of the overall marketing of purebred pups.
  19. My dogs dont roll in grass but they still smell like a dog within days of being bathed.
  20. Really? Wow.... Is that deliberate or a consequence of the upgrade I wonder.
  21. Sorry can't help with the query but, you can create a new thread in the breeders section and then post in it as well, but you can't post in any other thread. You might get more answers if you start the thread there instead of here.
  22. He's gorgeous. I know another black Pug named Bruce. Great name!
  23. My dogs are bathed fortnightly and they also develop a dog smell pretty quickly. I think it is a combination of activity, breed, fur type and weather that makes some dogs smell more than others. My MILs dog, a silky cross, never ever smells and she is only bathed every month or so. The only real solution with your carpet is to stop the dogs lying on it or rip it up and put down washable rugs. Aside from this, bi-carb and regular shampooing is your only choice but these aren't 100% effective.
  24. Just like you were once an ape that lived in a tree, but how much does that have to do with your current ancestory?
