I can recall seeing a link for a website that listed legitimate cruelty free animal products, such as free range eggs, but can't recall where I saw it or what the site was called. Does anyone know of it?

Before I was born? Really? Hilarious stuff. You're assumptions are intriguing. I find it fascinating that you are so verbal about what my choices are in life. SamMan, I have been gradually winding down on my meat eating habits over many years. I have looked into and considered the idea of not eating meat for several years, not only from an animal abuse view, but also for the health benefits. I have even followed a vegetarian FB page for some time which often lists recipes and nutritional facts. Wish me luck anyway. As I said above, the mere thought of biting down into meat at the moment is making me feel ill so for now my chances of success seem higher.

I didn't say it would stop anything- I said I would no longer support the industry. I don't support puppyfarmers either but I don't think I can close down the industryby not supporting it. Good grief. A bit of realism please. The thought of eating pork from a pig that has been battered to death makes me ill. I don't care what you think about my decision.

I think this latest evidence has made up my mind. I am going to give up meat. No more will I support these practices. Lets stop kidding oursleves. This scene would be repeated in other abattoirs around the country. I am sickened by what I see happening to chooks, cattle and pigs. The meat industry has only itself to blame. I am not a crazy animal welfare activist, but just your everyday consumer who has had enough.

Older drop kicks also ride bikes. It is a cheap form of transport for them, particularly if they didn't have to pay for the bike itself. I'll bet said drop kick rode away from the home with the puppy in one arm. I hope you find the poor little thing.

Is this hypothetical or is there a document that exist in relation to this?

Steve, is the cat used to be only inside? I may know if someone who might be in the position to offer care. They have no dogs or cats. Can you email me more detail or call me when you get the chance to discuss.

I offered advice and support and regularly took on private surrenders, even from breeders, when I ran my rescue. If done with care and under guidelines, rehoming dogs does no harm. I can understand though that this kind of service can be abused by those who are just irresponsible. However, irresponsible people will still 'get rid of' their dogs and usually in a manner that puts the dog at risk. They are far better off being in the care of someone who understands and follows safe and responsible rehoming practices. I didn't charge any fees to surrender a dog either.

Rubbish. He didn't give birth to the dog. The majority of dogs cope just fine being rehomed. +1 + 2 I also agree with the advice given above about doing it sooner rather than later so you can be around. Seek the advice from an experienced rescue person about what to look out for when re-homing. Pros, cons and dangers to avoid. Good luck.

I can understand the reaction by Needy Paws. Why did the question necessarily need to be asked here? I think we all need to stop and think sometimes. Needy Paws, I'd quit with the 'legal advice' line because anyone who knows anything knows that to try and claim defamation or similar is impossible unless you have a) unlimited amounts of money and b) can prove that the comments caused undue harm. Apart from a website I was viewing recently, I am yet to see one example of defamation that could be worthy of taking on, and that includes ludicrous claims aimed at me over the years. :laugh:

I was buying mine through a butcher in Granville. Halal butchers all sell goat meat. There are also several in Seven Hills and Pendle Hill that sell it I believe. I was paying $8/kilo though for diced meat but if you were buying bulk, they may do you a better deal??

Lucky you! I know there are retiree associations dedicated to volunteering in all manner of industries and ways and I've worked before with a group of retirees who were available for mentoring. My MIL is a member of a local group where we live who volunteer at the local community centre. There may be groups in Western Sydney who could assist. Perhaps contacting community centres in Blacktoen LGA might unearth such a resource??

Is it possible to tap into a retirees network for this kind of volunteer work?

I can so relate to this comment. My last home was a townhouse, that had other townhouse blocks as neighbours, and each is Torrens titled meaning that everyone was free to own dogs. One neighbour had a yappy Maltese that as left outside 24/7 and it yapped a lot at night. What amazed me more was that the owners were home most often when the dog yapped and never, ever once did I hear them command the dog to be silent!

Cornell, I've been a member of the epil k9 list for many years. I agree that it is good as it shows a wide variety of dogs and seizures as no 2 epileptics are the same. My only negative comment I could make about the site is that it is US based and they use a different drug regime to us in general and some of the advice offered by members conflicts with what the professionals advise in Australia. However, it is a fabulous resource of information on canine epilepsy overall.

Sandgrubber - I disagree with the tests being expensive and or unnecessary. The only way to actually diagnose epilepsy is to rule out all other causes of the seizures. Any Vet with even the most minimal of knowledge would not start ordering expensive tests such as MRIs after only one or 2 seizures. However, they would be bordering on negligence if they did not at least conduct some more basic tests that would rule out some ther common causes of seizures. Not all seizure activity is due to epilepsy and so medicating a dog with pheno when it is suffering from some kind of disease, injury or toxin reaction would be stupid. The tests conducted would rule out some of these conditions first. Epilepsy is a condition that can be managed with medication with varying degrees of success. My boy Monte is still having seizures and always has despite being medicated. He will turn 10 in April and was diagnosed at 18mths. He is on several drugs. He is not very well at the moment and I fear he may be nearing his time. Until now though he has lived a happy and fulfilled life.

I agree. I know it's not a popular thought and the whole 'all dog have teeth' thing always gets brought up - but realistically a small dog is more easily managed and the damage is less. Exactly and it was this line of thought, along with many other onsiderations, that went into my decision when weighing up the possibilities and future of the little Pug.
