  1. Obviously I'd rather they go to the pound. However I know for certain the each of my three are easily identified by their chips. Chip migration is not as common as it used to be many years ago either so it is not such a common risk factor any more.
  2. What a gorgeous expressive face she has!
  3. Surely pound staff are using their own judgements though and calling specific rescues when needed? Why would they ignore other rescues if the dog is at risk? Has anyone contacted pound management to express their concerns about dogs being left at risk with this method? Are rescues failing to take to take appropriate action to resolve the problems faced? If management are not aware of issues they can't be expected to ensure that the issues are resolved.
  4. So it is Hawkesbury Pound that are not forthcoming with information about dogs in need or is it someone acting on their behalf (officially or unofficially)?
  5. Sorry, I am just trying to clarify for the benefit of people reading, and myself, what the issue is. If there are none to rescue then why would they need to be listed here? Why are there none needing rescue? There is obvious angst simmering in this thread.
  6. And who has done this previously? Is there a reason why it has stopped? Is it the pound that has stopped it?
  7. If my dogs were found wandering, I'd much rather someone took them to a vet to check for a microchip so that they could contact me to let me know they were ok. No way would I want my guys impounded.
  8. Is Hawkesbury limiting rescuers though? Who normally takes the pics and posts them on DOL, staff at Hawkesbury or a rescuer?
  9. Playing at being objective here re: comment about logging in to FB. Why should anyone have to log in to DOL using the same reasoning?
  10. My guys loved the antlers. The problem with them though was that one developed a very sharp point which actually cut the roof of Boof's mouth, toward the soft palate, and after the initial panic that he had an unexplained ulcer that was possibly cancerous, we realised it was just the bone causing the damage. I threw the antlers in the bin and went back to the nylabone.
  11. Each state has their own laws in relation to this issue. In NSW they required to take the dog to the closest pound to where the animal was found or to a vet who has to hd the dog for the pound to collect. I believe in Tas it is still legal to keep thR animal while you attempt to locate the owner.
  12. My pugs all chew their Nylabones on a daily basis. I actually get tired of standing on the bones that they leave everywhere! I think they're worth the money. I recently picked one up in Bali for about $3 which was a bargain.
  13. Some dogs have it in their nature and it takes strong and knowledgeable ownership to have dogs of this nature. The Pb is not a teddy bear. It is often wrongly accused of crimes but the only way to fix it is to acknowledge the type of dog it is and restrict the ownership to people who understand the dog's nature and how to manage it.
  14. Was the hound in a designated off leash area?
  15. I also had a pig in mud for a short amount of time. My only issue with these style is that if your opening is only a normal door width or only a little larger, adding an additional panel makes the opening even smaller. I could barely get through the door with a washing basket with ours. In the end I ordered new doors with a fixed glass panel that had a hole cut through it for installation of a dog door and I gave the pig in mud to my mother in law.
  16. Can you provide links to legislation or proposals then.
  17. In the detail I read, I took it that it was audited several times due to complaints received. Maybe it was more a case of having evidence this time. In the news tonight they said this particular abbatoir was audited 4 times last year and no irregularities were found. It could be a case of one rogue employee doing the wrong thing in that video. Is there evidence animal cruelty is commonplace in Australian slaughterhouses?
  18. Yes, I'd also considered that. Hence why I'll just stick with buying eggs and not meat.
  19. www.humanechoice.com.au is the one I need. Thank you!! It has loads of information to enable people to make an informed choice. This will help me when I choose my eggs next. The brand I normally buy is not listed which is frustrating.
  20. I can recall seeing a link for a website that listed legitimate cruelty free animal products, such as free range eggs, but can't recall where I saw it or what the site was called. Does anyone know of it?
  21. Before I was born? Really? Hilarious stuff. You're assumptions are intriguing. I find it fascinating that you are so verbal about what my choices are in life. SamMan, I have been gradually winding down on my meat eating habits over many years. I have looked into and considered the idea of not eating meat for several years, not only from an animal abuse view, but also for the health benefits. I have even followed a vegetarian FB page for some time which often lists recipes and nutritional facts. Wish me luck anyway. As I said above, the mere thought of biting down into meat at the moment is making me feel ill so for now my chances of success seem higher.
  22. I didn't say it would stop anything- I said I would no longer support the industry. I don't support puppyfarmers either but I don't think I can close down the industryby not supporting it. Good grief. A bit of realism please. The thought of eating pork from a pig that has been battered to death makes me ill. I don't care what you think about my decision.
  23. I think this latest evidence has made up my mind. I am going to give up meat. No more will I support these practices. Lets stop kidding oursleves. This scene would be repeated in other abattoirs around the country. I am sickened by what I see happening to chooks, cattle and pigs. The meat industry has only itself to blame. I am not a crazy animal welfare activist, but just your everyday consumer who has had enough.
  24. Older drop kicks also ride bikes. It is a cheap form of transport for them, particularly if they didn't have to pay for the bike itself. I'll bet said drop kick rode away from the home with the puppy in one arm. I hope you find the poor little thing.
