  1. I couldn't answer as my answer would be free yard and part house.
  2. CharlieG, Houdini was far from an isolated case. If you do a google search about Greys with their ears cut off you'll see many stories. Houdini was the only one I personally met though. Now with chipping introduced in the Grey industry, it would have ceased.
  3. I can also recall a greyhound named Houdini who was found buried alive with his ears cut off. This was many, many years ago now though. He lived with a staff member of the RSPCA until he died of old age.
  4. It isn't the single death that is the concern though. It is the industry and the culture. The single death of a dog in a pound isn't overly horrid either but the culture that allows the deaths to occur in the numbers they do and for the reasons they are is though.
  5. Really, can you state case numbers?
  6. Actually we can. Didn't I read that she had said GAP was full and couldn't take the dog? That suggests it was healthy, just excess to her needs. Secondly, after working in the industry I can assure you that this was very common. I think an assumption can be made easily and probably fairly accurately in this instance. As I said, it can be sugar coated in many ways but the fact remains that orgs like GAP and similar exist for the very reason that is assumed here about the reasons of the dog being killed.
  7. Sorry, I was referring to the situation with the woman referred to in the OP, as is rubiton I think you'll find. Taking a much loved pet to be euthd for ill health, age or other legitimate reason is a different matter. This is a Grey that is excess to needs. Rubiton gave a scenario referring to *that* particular case. Edited: damn iPhones correcting my typing!!
  8. Desexing contracts will not stand up in court and anyone who thinks they can tell a consumer what to do with a product they have purchased is kidding themselves.
  9. Rebanne - so I guess you might think that checking out the offer would be too much effort? Why would you rather put the dog down. If an offer was made, wouldn't it be better to consider it?
  10. It can be sugar coated in many ways but the fact remains that Greys are put to death every day because they are not wanted. I worked for a couple of greyhound Vets although this was some years ago. My very first day included euthanasing Greys that were no longer wanted. I lost count of the number of Greys I killed during this time. The vets didn't do it because it was such a common and simple procedure. It was left to the nurses. I have hated the Greyhound racing industry ever since. Thank dog for orgs like GAP.
  11. Nowstarin, your post reads like a sales pitch. how much are you making flogging chemicals?
  12. Actually, I think that it might have happened in a different order. The egocentric clueless individuals are why the breed is in such a predicament and why it has so many issues. They created the stigma.
  13. Has the original rescue group who rehomed it been informed? Sorry, your post is a little confusing and it isn't clear if you had originally rehomed it.
  14. I haven't questioned anything Miss Molly and I will again say you are way off base. I stated quite clearly on several occasions that if there are concerns they need to be directed to the pound.. Clearly you missed this. Are you a pound employee? Is that why you feel so defensive perhaps. Of course this issue can be clarified in a discussion here. There are hundreds reading these threads trying to cut through the bickering and trying to determine what all the angst is about. As you or I cannot control who asks what questions or makes what statements, the best that can happen is that the issues are clearly articulated. I was asking deliberate questions in order to clarify the issue Anyway, moving on, I am not crticising anyone, any organisation or any person. I strongly suggest that if people have concerns about any pound that they put their concerns in writing in a clear and reasonable manner. This also stands for concerns about improper fund raising. Put your concerns in writing to the appropriate org. Speak directly with the source and not through 3rd parties.
  15. I can accept 'on' the bed only just barely and I cannot accept 'in' the bed at all. Ewww.
  16. Well done Jill and Blacktown List for assisitng in the re-instatement of a thread here. Perhaps this will assist and relieve some angst.
  17. No HP is not limitimg rescuers, photos are taken by volunteers and at the moment it seems to be only kelscats.. Staff do not have time to take photos and list them on DOL or anywhere else. (I would have though you would already know this anne). My knowledge or lack of knowledge is not important. My aim in this thread is to clarify what is happening, not just for me, but for others reading. Good grief. What is the point of your comments? Why would I have anything against the pound? I can state here and now that you have very poorly captured my interest in this thread and I feel you need to reconsider your accusations because they're quite off course and I take great exception to them. As I stated above, my intent is to clarify and, perhaps even, assist in some small way to resolve some issues. Once again just pick up the phone and call.. Staff are very helpful and do everything possible to make sure that all dogs that are on the list get adopted or rescue. Why would I do that? Again I'll say, that you've come in guns ablazing, and you're aiming at a target that doesn't exist. You have totally missed my intent and somehow arrived at the incorrect conclusion. My statement, quoted above is an attempt to CLARIFY what the issue is. To have someone state CLEARLY what the issues is. I don't like the confusion and I know, through conversations I have had, that the ongoing and building tensions recently surrounding Hawkesbury and to a lesser extent Blacktown pounds is causing confusion and angst.
  18. Phew, what a thread. It certainly takes some dissecting. Thanks for taking the time to add to the discussion. This issue is building and it is in my view a very important issue that needs to be sorted. Malti (I think) identified the feeling and that is that there is a shift at the pound, and I beleive at Blacktown also, and this is raising concerns. Can I suggest then that you are more careful with how you phrase your statements. You frequently use 'we' and other such statements that make it seem like you are writing on behalf of the pound and not just from your own view point. I understand how easy that is to confuse though and am a regular offender myself. Sometimes I feel like adding a disclaimer to my sig that says just that. This is what I also believe is the most sensible and logical thing to do. I agree that the pounds are aware of this ongoing issues and that it is building. I think that the issue needs to be brought to a satisfactory resolution. This doesn't seem to be something that will 'go away' and the fact that it involves many, many rescues and is not just the typical unrest that occurs is a concern. I personally feel that some kind of negotiation or mediation needs to be considered.
  19. If it is the FB presence that is causing the confusion, perhaps it is best not to look at it. It seems that kidspirit, acting as an employee or spokesperson, has indicated that the system has not changed at the pound. I might be speaking out of turn but I really feel that it best that all rescues only speak directly with the pound to express concerns and to determine dogs in need. Ignore the FB presence. I can understand the concerns and I feel a few myself but it is important that people rise above it. Concentrate on the great work you do. Develop and grow stronger relationships with the pounds and other like minded rescues. Put your concerns in writing to those who should know.
  20. Do you work at the pound kidspirit? I've not noticed you before and it appears you are speaking from authority? To be fair, that is probably saying more about my lack of observation than anything else as I can see you have made a few hundred posts. :)
  21. Could he also have been bitten by a snake? I hope he us found safe and well.
  22. I do think there is a need for concern and powerlegs has mentioned some of those concerns. I don't think the concerns have any relevance to DOL however and I think people need to stop including DOL into the discussion. DOL is a social forum, not a rescue specific website. It is a non core business add on to a commercial website about purebred dogs. The issue is the procedure at Hawkesbury Pound and the risks and associated problems that are now exposing the pound to potential negative outcomes because of the perceived or actual monopolisation of a single rescue organisation. I'd suggest that rescues with concerns put them in writing to the Council and or Pound staff. Concerns should be made in a reasonable and considered manner. Abusive correspondence and or calls are much less likely to be considered seriously.
  23. Have you raised your concerns directly with the pound staff? I know what you are saying, I really do. However raiising the issue here does nothing to help or resolve the situation, and in fact, only increases the antagonism and angst.
  24. Blacktoen List, thanks. The offer of putting up a list here will help people in the interim. Malti, while I can understand what you are saying I think you need to recognise that Hawkesbury pound staff hold ultimate responsibility here, not any other rescue. If Hawksbury's system is such that one organisation can tentatively hold most of the dogs, and the system shows it can be tenuous at best, then Hawkesbury need to be alerted to the potential problems. I wouldn't think that it is a sustainable system.
