  1. I never considered that breeds, at least the greater majority, wouldn't have clubs. I'll rephrase the question. What percentage of breed clubs have health committees. And another, what percentage of breed clubs have an actual health strategy.
  2. No, not pointless. It just needs refinement. The concept is solid, it's the lack of uniformity, enforcement and strategic planning that is letting it down.
  3. How many breeds clubs in Aus have formed health committees?
  4. I'm having the same problem as Anne. Try the view by page instead of view all link I first posted. There are 50 pages http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v485/Pietoro/Dog%20Breed%20Historical%20Pictures/?start=0 That's done it! Thanks. No Cavaliers. I'm sure I saw a Cav or perhaps it was just a KC?
  5. I believe their was a similar emphasis placed on the attribute of the diamond on the Pug's forehead. I am not sure it is mentioned often anymore though. Is there a superstition attached to the diamond or is it something else? There was but I can't recall what it was now. I'll look it up though if you're interested.
  6. It worked for me this morning too. I've seen many of the Pug pics before over the years but there were some new to me. I agree, amazing pics!

  8. I tried this link a few times this afternoon but the pc I was on kept freezing each time. I hope to try it again on a different pc tomorrow.
  9. Thanks Sandgrubber. I hope to have the time to look at the links tomorrow. I love reading about the history of breeds. I find it fascinating.
  10. Yes, that's true. It's interesting to see the historical pics though. If anyone has a spare $500 I've found an antique dealer with an original print of the book in very good condition.
  11. The link to the 'New Book of Dog' is brilliant! I loved seeing the pics of the Pugs and reading about the issues they had in that day with trends and colours. It was interesting to see them with a short muzzle. It would be lovely to see the Pug return to this look with the aim to help some of the issues created by the extreme flatness of the pug today.
  12. This is my feelings also. I wish I knew the answers. The way it is going, both in wlefare and the purebred world, I am scared of what the future holds.
  13. To me it is implied that an eye certificate means the dog has no issues relating to the eyes. So, which vet was wrong?
  14. Pugs aren't really known in high numbers in sports that require intelligence, stamina or agility. In having said that, I am aware of a couple who are doing very well in flyball I think it was.
  15. No I don't think so - I think its since it became a forum where open debate from anyone including breeders and dog owners is no longer tolerated unless it suits a few who bully and attack people personally to get them to shut up when they have an opposing opinion. The person who was beaten up the most for daring to discuss what the rest of the world was thinking to the table for discussion is a purebred breeder. Now it would appear that even if someone is a purebred breeder its still likely to get them a personal swipe or two about something which has nothing to do with the topic just because you can. Re: bolded part - which is precisely what Jo has attempted in my quote above.
  16. Good thing the pug passed If you are happy to accept that the dogs DQ were done correctly then logic dictates you have to also trust the same vet who found no issue with the pug :D Dear Jo, it seems you are looking to provoke an argument that doesn't exist. Seriously, stop being so petty and grow a little.
  17. Oh Rach. My heart is breaking for you. You have suffered so much loss. RIP Tess.
  18. I seriously can't believe that any person operating in a professional sense would not confirm and clarify information with the source (ie the pound) before taking action. Wow, how do some of you operate rescues? On another note, I am becoming genuinely concerned for rescue in Sydney.
  19. What message do you think is being sent? The message I get is "we're taking this seriously and regulating ourselves now". Thats not the message I'm getting and doubtful the one the public will get either. Its saying to me that purebred dogs which are bred for the way they look are sick. Whats more most people with two eyes in their head and who are not blinded by the culture can see it and have seen it for years. The thing they control is the judges and they should have thought this out better rather than make public sacrifices. So it's what, 3 dogs, out of all the hundreds of BOB's that will compete for Best in Show? I'm going to have go and straw poll my nondoggie friends and relatives again. The number is not important. It only takes one to create the message.. Any more than one is just added strength of message.
  20. What message do you think is being sent? The message I get is "we're taking this seriously and regulating ourselves now". What many of the public will and that is that the purebred world is breeding dogs, and further to that, awarding dogs that are unhealthy. The dog got all the way through 'the' most highly acclaimed pedigree show didn't it before it was denied the award. A breeder exhibited a dog that had health issues and a judge awarded a dog that had health issues before the award was stripped away. The general public only know that the dog was unhealthy which is exactly what anti purebred people are saying. Purebeds are unhealthy. It sends out a negative message.
  21. I'll start by saying I haven't read the thread. I will. However, fwiw, at this point I'll give my own personal opinion just on my scant knowledge of the issue. The manner in which this was handled has not done anyone, particularly the purebred world, any favours. What the hell is the matter with the purebred world. It seems it is being run by people who lack skill and foresight. Yes, there ARE BIG issues in some breeds including the one I go in to battle for but there is a way of moving forward and seeing the forest as well as the trees. Another public affairs nightmare. Another negative message sent world wide about the purebred dog and the ineptitude of those who sit in positions of power and another negative mssage about the failure of the system as it currently is.
  22. I find the photo offensive and the lack of judgement shown by the pigs in the photo astounding. It could be a rabbit for all I care and I would still feel the same revulsion. The fact that it is a cat and that one person has been identified as the President of the PIAA just adds another angle to the issue. There are no surprises however in the kind of people defending the offense the photo has caused. In fact, I expected nothing less from some.
  23. and then the gullible, vindictive or simply naive post those websites on dog forums as evidence of 'bad' breeders.
  24. Let's not forget that once they find someone to target they create false accusations and plaster these all over the web. Long live the activists and the crazies out there who want to crucify breeders for simply living.
  25. totally agree - shot in very poor taste, size of cat it is not a very feral looking feral, as they are so much bigger, and if he really wanted to do something about the feral cat situation, how about not letting pet shops sell undesexed kittens, or puppies? I also considered size but then it could be young and that is why it is small, or it could be only a few generations into feral living.
