Seizures can exhibit a wide variety if symptoms, even fly snapping, so I guess it is a possibility. Monte was always super hyper during the post ictal phase and in between seizures in a cluster. His seizures were fairly violent and they used to make him hungry and exhausted once he finally "came down" from his manic stage. I hope you get some answers soon Staffyluv. Videoing is a good idea.

Looking For A Pug In Rescue
~Anne~ replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
As a pug rescuer, I considered each application on merit. I didn't exclude applications from people who worked and didn't have other animals. I did prefer that homes had at least one other dog but it was not absolutely necessary unless that particular rescue dog needed a companion for a particular reason. Bottom line is, I guess it is up to the individual rescue to set their boundaries. In having said that, it seems to me at any rate, that some rescues have very strict boundaries that may ultimately prove to be a negative. -
Thanks shepherds. I'm usually quite good, it's only when a new development occurs that I feel the need to know more. I am very glad in this case I don't need to. I will take your advice though and enjoy the moments. We were having a moment when I discovered his latest lump. We were playing and this is the only time he will roll onto his back and relax. He was making his funny little whiney sounds pretending to bite me. He's a cute little bugger.

Separation Anxiety - Rescue Dogs Help!
~Anne~ replied to Paddo Pup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your post is a little confusing. Is she toileting inside because of the anxiety or has she never been toilet trained? Can you confine her while you are out to an area where the floors are easier clean? For example, the laundry, bathroom or kitchen? If it is purely just toilet training then this shouldn't pose too big of a problem. There are ample threads already on here with detailed information on how to toilet train an adult dog. -
How long ago was his surgery wuffles? Xyz - that's fabulous! did you go ahead with the chemo as well? 2boxer, I am sorry you lost your boy. How old was he?

Boofy's thread is below this one.

The lesions were found through an ultrasound. Boof has had several grade 1 and 2 MCTs removed. The vet suggested an ultrasound to ensure there was no spread. The first ultrasound showed several lesions on his spleen. They were small and inconclusive. A follow up ultrasound 8 weeks after the first showed a much larger lesion on his spleen. We have another ultrasound due in a few more weeks. We still are not sure what the lesions are and they may be nothing but the sudden appearance of the larger lesion has concerned my vet and radiographer doing the ultrasound. The vet has said the only way we can really be sure is to remove the spleen and perform a biopsy. The next ultrasound will determine what course of action we take. If it is larger we will definitely remove immediately. If it remains the same we will discuss the next steps in his treatment.

Again, I don't have any advice but I am keen to hear your experiences and others. My boy, Boof, has lesions on his spleen and they are suspected to be hemangiosarcomas. We have a follow up ultrasound due in about 4 more weeks and we will then make the decision about him undergoing a splenectomy.

Bob looks like he was a gorgeous boy. How lucky he was to have found you. RIP Bob.

Congratulations to all the awardees.

I put my egg shells in the microwave for a minute or so and they become very brittle. You can then grind them very easily to a fine powder.

Flynn's case was not quite as HW describes. He did have diagnosed Haemangiosarcoma, in a different location. While deciding whether to submit him to a large rib re-section surgery he was x-rayed and ultrasounded and a lesion was found on his spleen. He had a spelenctomy at age 13 and his recovery was not as quick as would be in a young dog. Thankfully the lesion on his spleen was not cancer, but a haematoma, the op didn't buy him any time so to speak. Personally if I had another dog in relative good health, even at an advanced age, and a lesion was found on the spleen with no other signs of cancer yet then I wouldn't hesitate to have a splenectomy done. However you have other things to consider, so it's not that straight forward. Thanks FHRP. After his next ultrasound we will be making the decision. Apart from the MCTs he is in good shape I believe and is younger than your Flynn when he had it. I guess that is why the vets hesitation too. The fact the we do t know what it is. My vet said that it can be common for older dogs to show lesions on the spleen that are harmless but due to his history and the fact we didn't notice this one with the first ultra sound it was a little concerning. I'd hate to put him through surgery for no reason.

Hi everyone, I'm having a catalogue jewellery party to help a friend and for the rewards! The jewellery is lovely and is very similar to Pandora, Thomas Sabo and others. It seems great quality and well priced. Every piece you buy helps me achieve my reward and obviously helps a very dear friend earn an income. I promise you'll find at least one thing you'll love in the catalogue if not more! Look for what you'd like to order and message me the details. We can arrange payment and delivery individually. Thanks for your support! http://www.envyjewellery.com.au/

Mdba 6th Annual Dog Choice Awards

Congratulations! -
Have you tried him on cooked meat rather than raw? My Boof doesn't tolerate raw meat well and when I spoke to the holistic vet she suggested I cook it. Her thinking was that at least it still wasn't commercial food and it was just as good as raw but was more easily digested by dogs with sensitivities to raw meat. Kangaroo and game meat is more likely to cause diarrhoea than beef, chicken, lamb or goat.

Looking For A Pug In Rescue
~Anne~ replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Perhaps contact PAWS Rescue. The Pug Club of NSW also sometimes has rescues and ex show or breeding dogs for sale. -
Prayers and good thoughts for Boof - hopefully just a lipoma. XX Thanks, I hope it is too. (PS I hope to call you later this week)

I just read up on the possible spread of his cancer and I think I should stop reading. I wish it wasn't Sunday afternoon.

More bad news. I was just rubbing Boofy's belly and he has a large, golf sized swelling under his arm pit. I am no expert but I would think it is a lymph node. Given his MCTs, lesion on his spleen and now this I fear the worst. It makes it hard too as I am due back in Sydney tomorrow and my husband will have to organise his visit to the vet first thing tomorrow. Please let it be something simple.

Mantis, to be honest, I think you're possibly just a little battle weary and jaded. It's making you more sensitive to things that are being posted. It happens to people who are passionate on certain subjects on here and many of those reader will have felt the same or similar at some point along the way. Take a rest and re-charge. I mean that in a caring way too in case it doesn't come across that way.

yes, whats gone so wrong. Although an awful lot died under car tyres too in those days if they didnt get street smart fast. But - if dogs didn't behave and or their owners weren't responsible the dogs copped a bullet . People still owned some dogs which were capable of biting and being a bit nasty but they were never given the chance - any sign that they might be a bit nasty ensured the owner made sure the dog never got out and never had the chance to bite or hurt someone or the neighbourhood would take action and the dog would be shot if the owner didn't do it themselves. All of those dogs we used to play with and accept as part of the community were judged safe - as kids we may not have understood how it came about that all of the dogs on the street were safe but behind the scenes our parents and other adults made sure that a growl or body language that wasnt quite right meant teh dog stayed home. Im older than you and I was one of the kids but also one of the parents. Maybe it was just our area but the aggressive ones weren't kept at home, we just avoided setting them off. We knew the triggers that made them snap and, like the law of the jungle intended, we heeded the warnings. As for dog fights, there were plenty. Dogs will be dogs. Of course they had battles. Things were less refined though. The battles sorted out pack order and territory between the neighbourhood dogs and every now and then one dog challenged another. No one had fences. The fights were unbelievable and I can recall pouring buckets of water on them and putting the hose on them to break them up. Otherwise a good hefty boot did the trick.

I know people get offended by generalisations of bull breed owners and it is no different to generalisations about volvo car drivers. In my opinion, generalisations are formed due to a repeated theme occurring and there is usually some truth to a generalisation overall. Certain types of families and people are attracted to particular dogs. It doesn't a mean that all bull breed owners are the same, but you cannot deny that the image of most bull breeds is of a powerful, strong dog and so those who choose to see their dog as an extension of their toughness or as an addition to help them achieve their desired status will prefer them over other breeds. In fact, the net is wider than bull breeds alone because the Rottweiler, GSD and others also come into this status.
