I should also add that unless your teacher is a teacher of law, they should not be educating anyone on legal matters. -
"beware Of Dog" Sign Makes You Liable?
~Anne~ replied to aussiecattledog's topic in General Dog Discussion
To my knowledge, sign or no sign, if your dog bites you are in trouble. You cannot void liability with a sign. Dogs are not meant to bite humans regardless of what prior knowledge you have of them being a risk. -
I have no idea about the cause but I love the pic! :D

That's great. Sorry about the typos in my post too! My iPad's predictive text has a mind of its own. Sometimes I read my posts back and have no idea how it creates the words it does! I'm glad you got my meaning though.

Hi Sylvie, I have found someone who needs them as other probably read, we've just been a little slow coordinating the handover. I can recall there was someone else with a dog with epilepsy but I am not sure who. It's such a shame or waste them given they're not a cheap drug to buy either.

Anti Epilepsy Meds And Fluid Tabs
~Anne~ replied to ~Anne~'s topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sure now worries. Better be quick though, if my luck is running I hope to be back down the coast for work around Christmas. I had to trial a number of pill cutters before I got one that would do the job easily. I used to cut up 40 or so tabs in one hit so I had plenty on hand. -
I agree with your comments Sas, but there are some who are genuinely concerned about security too I'd imagine. I've also been into some filthy homes of rescuers. Each and every time I'm horrified. I've been to one that wasn't fit for humans or animals. I could barely breathe the stench was so overwhelming. When I ran my rescue I visited the potential home first for the meet and greet. If the adopters were serious about adopting and after the visit I felt they were a match they then came to my home to complete paperwork and collect the dog. I'd already been to theirs so I knew where they lived and his made me less wary of them. Essentially they were still strangers but we were linked a little more than your average stranger I guess you could say. My home then, as it is now, is clean and tidy also. I used to have people express surprise at how clean and fresh smelling my home was when I ran the rescue. They usually made comments of 'wow, are you sure you run a rescue' because it was always so clean. but then Im germ phobic and very, very house proud. A good combination really in the rescue world.

Boofy has bitten me, twice. He's very possessive with bones and I made the mistake of not realising this, when many years ago, I attempted to take a bone from him. Has he bitten another dog? Sure he has, all of them have when they've had scraps over food. Monte I think was one of the few pugs I've known who never ever attacked another dog trying to steal his food. Olivia is actually quite a pushy bitch and she will use aggressive tactics regularly. The difference with these bites or signs of aggression is size and capacity. A topic we all often have squabbles over on this forum. When Boof bit me I moved my hand away shocked. He had marked me. When he did it again I simply picked him up by the scruff. You couldn't do this with a larger dog. I then collected the bone with my free hand and I let him know I was displeased. I have no doubt he was ready to do battle with me to keep his bone though! The same when they get into scraps over food. I just pick one up. I am not overly concerned about injury to myself because their bone structure, poorly placed/distributed teeth and size means they lack the ability usually to do any great damage. Besides which, they've never tried to bite me when I pick them up..... unless it is Boof with a bone. They rarely do damage to each other too, for the same reasons above, unless they get hold of an ear. I've seen a couple of bleeding ears over the years but that is all.

How Often Do You Run Your Dogs Off Leash?
~Anne~ replied to silentchild's topic in General Dog Discussion
Rarely. The only time we do is when we take them to our dog beach. Both of them do not have 100% recall. Boof is pretty close but Olivia is stone cold deaf and she's stubborn to boot. To me, that's a disastrous combination and makes her high risk. The beach is the only area where the roads and other danger are too far away for them to get themselves into trouble. -
Here's a couple of articles that may add a balanced view. http://www.animaldermatology.com/newsletter/20789/Derm-Digest-July-2012 http://books.google.com.au/books?id=urlFOAYWjxkC&pg=PA6&lpg=PA6&dq=dermatology+canine+shaving+coats&source=bl&ots=Entm2jiSjD&sig=qUA2T5G3AdTVHPppGPXXKFBqmwM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=skGFUrWSHoK6iAfz34CQCA&ved=0CDgQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=dermatology%20canine%20shaving%20coats&f=false

I'll find a picture if you like. Tash was shaved every Summer. She was a gorgeous dog with a glorious coat even after many full shaves. I live in a high tick area and it's semi rural too so there are ample examples of clipped border collies to choose from. It's a common scenario here and when out on walks and talking with people I've never heard anyone say it's ruined the dogs coat. To be fair, it's to a questions I've specifically asked either.
-
The passion people have for not shaving coats is always amusing to me personally. I see the same in the pug world where people also want to shave coats. Who cares if they do. It wont solve the problem of shedding but it does help keep them cooler. The idea of the belly clip is a good compromise for this breed I would think. It's not your dog though that's being shaved so why do people care so much? Sure, offer advice about the potential for sunburn and things that are true but in the end, the ultimate decision and the welfare of the dog is not anyone's concern but the owner. Osowsift, the border collie I spoke of was desexed. Her coat was glorious when it grew back every single time. She always looked like a puppy after it being shaved off.

Anti Epilepsy Meds And Fluid Tabs

I still have them here is you want them Anna. :) If not, I'm happy to give them to anyone that would like them. -
Hmmm, sorry I can't cut and paste but page 25/26 is an interesting new development!

My Mother in law's BC was clipped every year and her coat always grew back just as gorgeous. She was a far happier dog too after it was clipped.

When Boof had major surgery on his chest and had a long stitch line I didn't want to put him in a crate. He'd never been in a car without being in one or being in the boot. I sat him on the passenger seat beside me, unrestrained because of the surgery, and he just sat there looking at me. He didn't try to get in my lap or do anything. He wasnt exactly 100% comfortable. I could see he was a little stressed but he was a good boy nonetheless so I m not sure your theory is correct cali.
-
I usually restrain my dogs in a crate in the back seat or they both go in the boot (hatchback) when we are going on trips of only a few minutes duration, like to the beach.

In their bed in the living area.

I'm not sure where you're coming from but it sounds like a really crappy space. Wtf? Wondering that myself, max. I thougt ruralP's post was really interesting. Me too! Good grief people. Yes dancinbcs, many have possibly realised that is the case but you too are coming across as rude with your post. I learnt more in RuralPug's post than I have for a while regarding coat colours of the pug. I think we've determine d already that they are variations of fawn but RuralPug has explained just how those colours are represented and accepted in the show/breeding world.

No words other than I am sorry.
