There are differences depending on the allergy. Contact allergies are obviously related to contact. It could very well be a reaction to something to dog touches with it's mouth. My vet gave me the common indicators for common skin issues when I ran my rescue. He said: Contact allergy: generally involves the feet and sometimes the abdomen and the reaction is where the skin touches the allergen. Dietary: a general spread over the torso and legs. Fleas: the spot above the tail and spreading up almost following the spine Demodectic mites: the muzzle and eyes are usually the first signs and then it spreads to other areas of the body Sarcoptic mites: starts on legs, particularly elbows and armpits, ears and chest. He also said that commonly, dogs with yeasty feet and ears have a dietary related allergy. Pugs are prone to face pimples. It is almost always caused by the way they mush their faces into their food and their bowls. The pic of this dog looks very similar to what pugs look like with pimples. I would definitely think it is related to eating and I doubt it is a dietary related allergy issue.

Thanks for that link T. I've shared it on Facebook too. Hopefully this situation can be changed. I urge everyone to to share and to do what you can to support any action to help these animals.

This is sickening. The poor animals. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-19/tigers-languish-in-squalid-indonesian-zoo/5100928

I second the malaseb shampoo. If nothing else, a little salt in warm water to help keep it clean. It may be infected though or bacterial which means a vet trip. Does it flare up at certain times? ie hot humid weather, spring or when he is fed certain things? Id give your vet a call. Given he has already seen him for the same problem, he should be a little more sympathetic to your plight and he could perhaps help you over the phone. My vet often helps me like this and I go in to pick and pay for whatever cream may be needed.usually this kind of support comes with a waiver 'if I can't see it, I can't diagnose it so if Thai doesn't begging to clear within a few days you will have to bring him...." Also, ask him if he will do a payment plan at the same time in case you do need to take him in.

Eye Socket (orbital) Disease (exophthalmos)

I also haven't any specific experience but it seems that it could be genetically linked to the Shar Pei or so states this article; http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/eyes/c_multi_orbital_diseases#.Up7VN38ayK0 We have some experienced Shar Pei people here so hopefully they'll see this thread and provide some insights. -
Sure, cats should be confined. It is that simple. However, the broader view of the issue isn't. The cat in this scenario was owned by an elderly person I am sure I read. She's probably kept this cat like she has all the cats she has owned over her life. She's kept it the way the vast majority of cat owners still do and the way the majority of people on this forum with cats, still do and have done! These arguments are stupid. It's less about acting responsible then it is about a common way to keep a cat that is well within the law. Is it the best way to keep a cat? Not in my view but keeping a cat inside 24/7 without access to an outdoor enclosure is, in my opinion, just as inadequate.

The OP is either incredibly naive, young or a troll.... or perhaps all 3. I thought the 'I'm moving to America just so I can own a dog' thing was bizarre and this just adds to it.

Life Ban On Owning Pets Handed Out In Tasmanian Court
~Anne~ replied to Salukifan's topic in In The News
It was reported in the media. You're not reading a transcript of the actual case. You bet there was sensationalism. As for the end result showing the seriousness of the crime.... what do you make of the 5 year sentence handed out for the death of an innocent man king hit and killed as he walked along minding his own business then? The sentence doesn't always give an indication of size or seriousness of a crime. I'm happy that there is one less person capable of harm that has the ability to own a dog but I still stand by my sensationalism comments. :) -
Agree with both. Seriously. Talk about over the top reactions. Some are so irrational they make me laugh.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Xmas...

My Christmas pugs, Olivia and Boofy. -
But you already live in Sydney? Couldn't you commute? Sorry, it's really not my business I guess but I'm confused as to why you would have to move into a unit in the same city that you currently live. Anyway, as to your question. Some dogs would handle it easily and others wouldn't. There is no way of knowing but to trial it. If the dog becomes distressed by your visits you would have to be accepting of the fact that your visits would have to cease until such time he was ok. You would also have to accept that he may become more attached to your friends and not be responsive to you any more. When you have a loyal companion for so many years, this may be hard to accept.

It sounds like a bit of sensationalism if you ask me. -

What, did he think there were two dogs hiding under one matted coat? What a bizarre quote. -
Rach, I am so sorry. You've had your fair share of losses over the last couple of years. You give so much love to your furry family members. Cyber hugs.

Rspca Nsw Rescue Partners

It's great to see them actively working towards formalising things. As they said, they have worked with a number of groups over the years but it was sometimes very hit and miss. I can recall I had to go through the process of approval as though I were a cat foster carer to work with them and I rescued canines, not felines. -
Yes agree. I usually advise people to talk to the pug club and ask when and where the pug club shows are on. Then they can trot along to a show, speak to a number of breeders in one day, and get a broad variety of advice on the pug and it's needs.

Interesting Article About Dog Parks Worth A Read
~Anne~ replied to Loreley's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think we over analyse dogs too much. Dog park threads, training threads... they're all filled with it in my view. We've forgotten that dogs are dogs, not our children. But then we also over analyse children too much as well. I guess therein the problem lies.... -
I'd contact the pug club of QLD.

It sounds like they're a franchise like Greencross but not as big or as corporate styled?

Changes At Heading For Home (cvar)

A huge loss to CVAR no doubt! -
I trust vorbac are offering a 'rechip' at no cost through vets? If not I'd be letting them know my feelings on this issue very firmly if I were affected.

Olivia stares under the lounge in the early evening and barks. Both of them will bark if outside at dusk too. They're pugs. They're weird.

Personally I would wait until the 12 month injection is due again and then don't get it. Use the Sentinel instead. If nothing else at least with sentinel you are only dosing a months worth in one hit. With the injection you are hitting your dog up with 12 months worth and if something goes wrong you've got to wait a loooooong time for a reduction of the drug in its system.
