I have 2 crates I no longer want. One I believe maybe an airline approved crate. The larger one is that I believe is airline approved is 'roomy' pug sized, the other, small pug or cat sized. I will possibly also have a few towels and blankets, maybe a bed or two, as well. I'm trying to de clutter and I really don't need so many things now with only two dogs and no other animals. Pick up South Coast, NSW or I may be able to sweet talk a DOLer heading through to take them to Sydney.

Howling Neighbourhood Dog: It's New!
~Anne~ replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have a similar scenario with a dog up the street. He howls and barks when his owners are not home. A neighbour up the back come around door knocking one night to try and identify where the dog was. I spoke with her and explained the owners probably didn't even know it did this when they were out. She saw sense and instead of alerting the authorities made the decision to send them a nice note letting them know what was happening. I've rarely heard the dog ever since. You can't assume the dog is terribly distressed, although it obviously is suffering some stress, hence the vocalisation. You need track down where it is coming from and alert the owners to what is happening. I'm always surprised by the number of people who go straight to Council with complaints instead. I would hope that of my dogs ever annoyed anyone or were stressed when I wasn't here, and therefore was unaware of the problem, that someone might tell me first. -
He could also be allergic to more than one thing. I've seen a dog allergic to carpet before too. It all sounds painful for him. Are his feet and or legs hot to touch? If there are no infections you could try using and oatmeal wash to soothe them. Pour some raw oats into a stocking and soak it in warm water. Use the warm water to soak his feet in. He really needs a vet though. None of us are qualified to give you advice and nor can we even see his legs. It's imperative you speak to your vet. Call them and ask their advice. Most vets will offer you further advice over the phone on an issue they have already been consulted about.

Does Anyone Know What Rescue Amy Gurney Runs?
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
in New South Wales you do not need a license or permit to own a fox (as a category 5 animal) under the the Non-Indigenous Animals Regulation 2012. As foxes are not currently a declared pest under the Local Land Services Act 2013, there is no legal obligation for land managers to control them. Foxes may be kept in captivity, but it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 revised 2009 to release them. It may be possible in some rare cases to obtain commercial permits to keep foxes in both Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. Please contact your state government office of National Parks and wildlife for further information regarding this matter. http://sydneyfoxrescue.com/ But it's an animal that is used to roaming for kilometres, unlike your average domestic dog who is kept in a restricted way in a yard or house for most of the day. Is it legal to keep it in a tiny cage? Shouldn't it at least be in a dog run if it has to be kept at all? I hate seeing any animal in a cage, including crates but that is another argument. -

Wow. Why is the fox in such a tiny cage? Why does she have it all? Those poor animals. -
Yes, that sounds very plausible actually.

Malaseb is I think what you were referring to earlier. Yes, it will help. It's seems to my uneducated way of thinking that it might very well be a contact allergy. You said he was worse after running in the paddock. What's in the paddock that may be affecting him? He could be allergic to grass as well. It may not be something sinister like wandering dew. I'd be buying a decent set of boots for him ASAP and see of that helps. Put them on every time he goes out side. Watch and see if there is any improvement. Boots and Malaseb can be ordered online as you probably know.

If the irritation is on his paws and lower legs I'd suggest a contact allergy. Demodectic mange normally shows around the muzzle, eyes and chest to start with. Sarcoptic mange generally will start around the underside of the chest, legs and neck. Contact allergens are usually on the feet, legs and abdomen. Flea allergies are usually on the back at the base of the tail. Food allergies can often show through generalised itching, ear problems and eye problems as well as hotspots. Your dog needs professional help. He needs a specialist or, at the very least, a vet who has more than average knowledge on skin problems and allergic reactions. He needs to have tests to rule out certain conditions and mites. You may also need to put him on an elimination diet to determine if and what foods affect him. It will be more expensive to go to a specialist, but think of all what you have gone through so far and the cost. Going to a specialist who will guide you through the process to determine what is causing his problems is well worth any money spent. Think of the long term.

That's great news! Looking forward to hearing a few more good updates. There is another drug they can add to her anti epileptic medication regime if she continues to have seizures.

How Long Is Too Long?
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Funny you should say that. I heard someone saying that this morning on tv, but they were talking about images of people on the front of magazines that sell. The idea of eye contact with the person looking at the picture is apparently important. -
It will be the Phenomav (phenobarbital aka Pb). Glad to see she is settling. It takes time with Pb but once you get it right, things can be very smooth sailing, so hang in there. We always had to have a dog door for Monte because he could not hold for long even after he settled with his drugs. He used to drink quite a lot.
-
Sorry Mon. RIP Divani.
-
She may already have a slight bladder weakness, that you'd never noticed, and the meds are making it worse. Is she on Pb? If so, it can cause ataxia. Bromide can also. It takes some weeks for the meds to settle and her body to adjust. What can also make it worse is that Pb can increase thirst, which increases the amount they drink and consequently, the frequency of urination. You may need to help encourage her to urinate prior to laying down for the night and even restrict her water for the period she would normally be asleep. Only for this period though as being thirsty and not having water wouldn't be ideal.

No, I didn't state any opinion at all. You might have, but I didn't. I asked a question because your response confused me.

They're a little older now,and I'm sure, a little wiser too Why are you answering on behalf of the OP? Is it a crime? Attitude much? Prickly thing aren't you. I asked because it was confusing. I thought I may have missed something and that the op and yourself were partners or family or something.

Yes, the article says he has demodex. Poor dog. Not the first and he won't be the last with demodex that hasn't been treated.

Also enchaphalitis.

I'd probably just go with the smaller one although it would be handy to be able to place everything in the urn. Molly's came to me in a cloth bag so I put the whole bag in the urn. Monte, to my horror, was put into a sandwich bag. I had another cloth bag that came with the urn so I transferred his ashes to this and then put it in the urn. I didn't want to see him in plastic and even had the vet promise to wrap him in a blanket I left with him and place him on plastic if there were any problems. I was distraught when he came back in plastic and a sandwich bag at that. I know not everyone will understand that but, to me, it was a very emotional time and I had my reasons for the aversion to the plastic. With both Monte and Molly, the bag fitted in very, very snugly.

I like them both. I think the first one would be my preference.. but only just. It's a great site isn't it. They have such a beautiful range. I love the urns I have and they look beautiful in my home.

I'm sure that a couple of eggs a day is fine as long as you are feeding the whole egg (yolk and white). The only issue to look out for is salmonella. If this worries you, cook them instead.
-
I gave Sentinel to Monte. I gave it every 6 weeks from September to March and then only every 8 weeks until the end of August.
-
I've fed goat and they loved it. But then we're talking pugs and they'll literally eat anything. It is very similar it looks, taste and texture to lamb. I'm surprised that so many dogs don't like it.

Such a hard place to be in. I hope you can get some answers. I agree that an MRI and other diagnostics are the only way to determine what is happening. Encephalitis also comes to mind. The issue with neurological issues, that seem as progressive as what your dog is suffering, is that often recovery is not possible. So you spend large amounts of money for a diagnoses and not a cure. Good luck wit whatever decision you make.

Monte did. My husband was cutting an onion one night when preparing dinner and one half of it flew off the cutting board onto the floor. He went to retrieve it but Monte beat him to it. I waited for Monte to spit it put in disgust but he didn't.
