Administration Fees?
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Hmm, I'm not so sure. I can recall reading somewhere where an administration fee was charged by a company and it was deemed illegal because there was no cost associated with the refund. If you offer a refund because the product (in this case a dog that is on trial and on trial for a purpose) is not suitable, can you legitimately deduct a fee? -
Administration Fees?

I never did and I also saw this for the first time the other day. I highly doubt it is legal to withhold fees for such a reason. -
How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?
~Anne~ replied to Edge's topic in General Dog Discussion
You know I am going to call you on this. I believe this is your pup. You bought it from another state and it was flown? to you. It now has something and you are trying to see if the transport could have caused damage (HD?) "Owner" chose to buy a pup and get it transported, by car, rail, plane. Only "owners" word that pup has been correctly cared for since. Strange first post if pup is not yours and there have been plenty of stories about "what if" where it turned out the poster was talking about their very own dog. It seems, from later posts, you are wrong. You are too sensitive to breeder bashing and you have jumped a gun perhaps in this thread. I don't see any breeder bashing. Quite the opposite, I took it that the op may have been a breeder talking about an issue that another breeder was experiencing. I too, it seems, am wrong. It goes to show how assumptions are pretty useless sometimes. -

Who cares if they do own it or if they even are the breeder. They're just asking a question and are allowed to be as anonymous as anyone on this forum. -
How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?

If it's a non heritable condition, and not something that could be reasonably known prior to leaving the breeder then the age or time is irrelevant. -
Long time no see ILTBY. Welcome back. :) We took Monte off the bromide as it was the main cause of additional problems with him. His seizure control was no different after he was taken off it but he was certainly happier for a while. I'm not sure who your specialist is, we were seeing Georgina Childs and I can't speak highly enough of her. She put Monte on Keppra in place of the bromide, which we had to wean him off as he had been on it for about 8 years, but he was only given this when he had a cluster.

How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?
~Anne~ replied to Edge's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, the owner isn't entitled to anything. Even if it was inherited, but it wasn't a common condition and not one that can or should be tested for, then it's just luck of the draw for the owner. -
6 times?! Has she been checked for a uti? I have a bitch that has had two bladder surgeries and is on a specific diet that makes her drink and she only urinates, on average, 3 times during the day.

Methinks you might have to eat a lot of humble pie to be accepted again by the sounds of it.

Ahh crates. Now that's a whole other argument. My guys enjoy the freedom of pen, a choice of beds, and access to the dog door 24/7.
-
Which brings me back to my original point about security. All a burglar has to do is wait for the dog to open the door for them to gain entry to the house.
-
I realise that. Sorry, I wasn't very clear. What if your dogs were inside at night or when you were not home? How do they go out to toilet.
-
What about when you're out though and the dogs are inside, or at night when you're asleep. Its not very secure.
-
Maree, can you message me with where it might be suitable to meet up.

When I sought quotes to cut a hole in for a doggy door I was told it depended on the glass in the door and that most doors could not take having a piece cut out. The strength of the glass would be affected negatively. You will probably need to order a complete piece with the hole pre-cut. A glazier can then remove the old section and replace with the new glass. I solved the problem by installing a complete new sliding door with the hole cut in the panel, cut to suit this dog door: https://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/products_id/716 I can't recall who I purchased it through. It was online and they were based in QLD.

Sorry, but I thought I was clear. You are guessing it is idiopathic vestibular disorder. A vet can determine if it is or isn't. It may be something else. Something that is painful, can kill or is a symptom of a more serious condition. It could be lethal of it isn't treated. i.e. you are not qualified to diagnose idiopathic vestibular disorder. If it is idiopathic vestibular disorder, which is pretty common in older dogs, then the vet cannot do much but treat the dog for nausea or dehydration. So if the dog is eating and drinking and otherwise ok, there isn't anything that can be done.
-
The vet can rule out other potential causes for the symptoms. There are several causes for vestibular episodes. However, if it is vestibular all they can do is treat some of the effects such as nausea or dehydration from vomiting or if they are not eating or drinking.

How come dogs who have never attacked anyone can be euthanised and yet dogs that have attacked, and no one denies this, are not?

Are there any updates on this? I was thinking the same thing as RuralPug. When I ran my rescue I was often told of behaviour problems in dogs being surrendered. Indeed, one was even on sedatives to stop his hyperactivity and to stop him biting his tail. He had actually bitten the tip completely off! I took him off his meds because I wanted to see what he was like without them. He was fine. He did attempt to chew his tail one or twice and I corrected him. He was on his own at his former home and the owners worked long hours and he had little routine. With me, even though we worked long hours, he was with other dogs and we had a set routine. He was with me for a couple of months before being rehomed. He had no problems in his new home either. I concluded with him, and with a few others who allegedly had problems with inappropriate toileting and similar, that it was a lack of leadership, routine or attention and activity in each case.

A quick google search brings up that the rescue is located at Penrith and operates under two names. Pampered K9 Rescue and Ohanas This is the second FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pampered-K9-Rescue-Inc/633267716727695

Can I Administer Half A Tablet
~Anne~ replied to twodoggies2001's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes, I have always done this after my vet recommended it to me as a way to help costs when I ran the rescue. I only dosed every 6 weeks too, again on his advice. Capstar are so cheap you don't need to worry about the costs so I am assuming you mean cutting the Sentinel in half. -
Oh no! I hope she will be ok. How awful for all of you.

Thanks KC and Minimax. I'm actually heading to Canberra myself just after the Easter weekend, on Wednesday 23rd and coming back the next day, from the south coast. Will that be of any help Maree? We could meet up on the way or in the Berra somewhere? I could also leave them with my daughter in Canberra for a later pick up if necessary.

Does Anyone Know What Rescue Amy Gurney Runs?
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Does it? It's the first I've ever seen it and I've been here a while. Maybe it's just me not noticing though. Anyway, I'm not sure there wasn't anything negative that reflected on you in this thread, it's just people seeking clarification. It's sad that there are rescues like the one this thread is about that causes people to question others anyway.
