Help! My Neighbour's Dog Killed My Husky :(
~Anne~ replied to HuskyDrake's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't blame yourself you did what you could. It must have been a very upsetting and horrific incident to witness. The neighbour next door should be held accountable for their lack of disregard for the safety of the surrounding neighbours. -
I've met lots of cats that will attack a dog but this is the first cat I have ever seen that has attacked a dog that is in attack mode itself. I'm amazed at the cats actions.

You're not serious are you?!

Boys are cuddlier than girls in general. Yes, they will just stop or sit when they've had enough. Some are lazier than others. I've had to carry each of mine on different occasions when out walking and they've decided they've had enough. Puppies are very, very active. They don't slow down until maturity and some mature pretty late. I have an almost 10 year old who is more active than many 3 year olds. Pugs are not dogs that generally match an active lifestyle. They love a walk and a play and some love walking more than others. But in general. Pugs are not dogs that you would take for a multiple kilometre walk every day. They also should be exercised only minimally when it's hot. I use a furminator and that between washing, rubbing vigorously with a towel and then brushing with the furminator I can almost get the shedding under control. Be warned though, no pug owner EVER gets the shedding under control. When looking at buying a pug, which are an indoor dog, consider the fact that you will have a house full of fur for up to 15 years. Your future babies will crawl amongst it, it will get in your food, on your furniture, in the cracks between your floor boards, it will fill your vacuum cleaner, and coat your clothes. You will live and breathe pug hair. Be prepared.

 He sounds so cute!

I would not be buying the puppy if I was looking specifically for a purebred pug puppy. There are many breeders out there doing the right thing. Take your business to one who shows they have some ethics. The fact that you have come here asking questions shows that it concerns you. Follow your gut instincts and find another breeder.

The footage is amazing and horrifying all rolled in to one!

I wish I didn't click on the link that I did. What a sad little man.

Poor old boy. I hope you can get some answers and get it sorted. He's lucky he's got you going into bat for him!

What Needs To Be Done
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
HappyCamper, do you have a mentor? I've read various threads and it seems you've been striving to help in the way of rescuing and fostering for some time. I know that sometimes your eagerness and the fact you are very green has sent you off track and you experienced some major conflicts. The fact you aren't sure of laws surrounds companions animals is going to be a huge and ongoing stumbling block for you as well. A mentor would be good as you could immediately ask the mentor these kinds of questions. It might save some unnecessary future conflict and problems. Just a suggestion. I know it's really none of my business. :) -

Agree that it makes no sense. That's possibly because we are only receiving tidbits of info though. We don't even know how long he may have had the dog for. Sounds like a load of unnecessary and possibly unwarranted drama. -
Gorgeous. So glad they could stay together. They'll settle in no time!
-
I hope he's ok. Sorry I can't add anything of value as to why. It does sound possibly neurological though or in that area? Sending loads of good health vibes to Doof.

I've had several house and pet sitters and I've never paid them. Our arrangement is they can bring their dogs if they like, eat whatever is in the pantry or fridge, use as much electricity, water and downloads on the internet as they choose, and enjoy the local scenery while they're here. It's a free holiday for them.

What Needs To Be Done
~Anne~ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Just because the dog has come from a pound does not mean it is registered. The clause 16d exemption means that rescues can take a dog from a pound in NSW and not register the dog for up to 12 months while it is with an proved foster carer. Has the pregnancy been confirmed by someone who is qualified to assess the dog for pregnancy or is it the owner saying it is pregnant based on their own personal knowledge? Did the dog come into heat while with the new owner? There is so much about this situation that requires answers before anyone could offer any decent advice. -

Has the pregnancy been confirmed by ultrasound? Are you sure it's not a phantom? Has the rescue group been informed? Was the dog rehomed in NSW? Is it registered? To be registered as a desexed dog a certificate should have been provided. -
I Think My Dog Swallowed Some Plastic!
~Anne~ replied to Yonjuro's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would think it might be ok. Of course no one can predict an outcome though really. My pug Monte swallowed all manner of things including rocks, pebbles, half an onion, sticks, tonnes of dirt, a coin and who knows what else I didn't see. He never once needed vet treatment thankfully. It all came back out the other side. If he shows any discomfort or pain or stops eating or droning then straight to the vet though! -
Thank you everyone. We have a beautiful pic of them both that we are framing for her for Mother's Day. I'll upload it here once hubby sends me the image. It really is a lovely picture and I think she'll be very touched.

Council CAN but Gosford council WON'T, they are beyond pathetic The GM of GCC didn't even have the decency to reply to my email personally. I would make a lot of noise by cc'ing every Councillor, the Ranger, GM and your local state Member into an email. Explain how the lack of action in relation to these dogs is a potential for future disaster.

I agree 100% with the concept regarding regulation of rescues seeking donations. It's astounding what is going on out there!

When Does Weight Gain Become Significant?
~Anne~ replied to Scottsmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Having pugs, weight is always an issue. I like mine on the lean side. I've never fed a recommended amount. I judge by visual clues. Looking at them from above I like to see them come in at the waist. If there isn't a definite waist line I cut back the amount. If the waist line is too pinched, I feed a little more. The amount I feed is adjusted as required. This could be every week or once every 6 months. Over the years of rescuing and owning pugs I've realised that each of them is different with how much they can eat. It depends on what I am feeding, their activity levels and their physical build. If I were to feed a recommended amount to all of them I'd have some over weight and others just fine. -
It's impossible for a breeder to have such a clause regardless. It's like saying if you buy my car and then want to resell it, you must give if back to the person you purchased it from. Or buying a pair of jeans and expecting you have to return them to the store instead of giving them to your young cousin when you grow out of them. Dogs come under consumer laws. Anyway, in this case the breeder was rude. I had initially contacted her to let her know the dog was in my care as a courtesy. At that point I wasn't aware the chip wasn't in the owners name. The owner completed the forms as requested and it was when I lodged them my fears were realised as the breeder had already stated she wanted the dog.

It doesn't need to be disputed legally necessarily. I rescued a dog that was sold as pup. It was still chipped to the breeder and if was never registered with Council 7 years or so later. The dog was surrendered to me for rehoming due to a marital breakdown. I needed the chip transferred to me. The owner couldn't do this as it wasn't in his name. The breeder decided to argue with me claiming the dog was legally hers as it was still chipped to her and she demanded the dog back. A stat dec from the real owner and evidence of ownership such as veterinary records and the receipt of sale was enough to satisfy the Council who then transferred the chip to me. This was in NSW. Each state may be different.
