  1. It depends on why it is being used. In general, yes, you would put something else first however. When I first came across it, centuries ago, we used it to hold a cottonball against a vein more often than not. Most recently I used it, without anything else, to wrap my dogs toes after having their nails clipped. They used to be delivered back from the groomers each fortnight with at least one of them still spotting a touch of blood from a clipped nail. So that I didn't have to clean up a million little blood spots from my rugs or floors, I used to wrap vet wrap around the offending nail and paw for an hour or so.
  2. vanillan, good luck with your pup. It seems you're happy with your decision and it is your decision to make and no one else's, so you need to feel happy with it. I've owned pugs for around 40 years now. I also ran a pug rescue for several years. I've seen and cared for many, many pugs with health issues. I know what it is like to care for a pug with health issues, many of which could have been prevented with a good breeding program. The cost both time wise and financially can be huge. Good luck and don't forget to post photos of your puppy. Everyone loves a cute puppy pic.
  3. Is there a Sheltie rescue? Aside from a breed specific rescue, Id be contacting rescues to see if they could take him on as a surrender. Oops, just saw you mentioned rescue. This would be my first port of call tbh.
  4. I bought a pack of brightly coloured vet wrap online. It was a lot cheaper than buying through the vet or at a chemist. Years ago it was called Coban.
  5. If there was still a rolly eye emoticon I'd use it. You've got your nickers in a twist over something that didn't happen. I did not edit your words!! I removed some of my words. You must have edited your post AFTER I had already hit the reply button and captured your original text. Then unbeknownst to me, you edited your original text. Because I don't read back over posts I have read I didn't even know you had edited your post until you said something. I'm really sorry about your cancer. I hope your treatment is successful. As for Ms Tranter, I wish her well health wise too but the irony of the situation cannot be ignored. She encouraged and participated in the same behaviour that is now affecting her.
  6. Really? How harsh you are. The woman presently has a heart condition and I wish her well in taking care. One of the woman she harassed was also suffering ill health. In fact, if my memory serves me it was also a heart condition. Tell me more, so I can wish that person well, too. I note you edited out the rest of my quote where I indicated that I would wish anyone, in that particular health situation, well. Say what? I didn't edit anything of yours, Mita. I removed the words "no, not harsh" that I had written. Why would I edit your words if they already exist in a post that only you can edit? How bizarre. Aaahh, I can see now what you're on about. I didn't even know you had edited your original post. I quoted it, as it was, and then edited my post after, removing some of my words that I felt were unnecessary.

  8. You were wary of the first breeder because you weren't getting papers and now you're buying from another who is offering the exact same thing? I don't get it. If you want a dog that has no history then buy it. There is no guarantee either of the two pups you decided on will be healthy. In fact, there is no guarantee with any breeder. However, your chances of buying a healthy, well bred little pug pup will be greatly increased if you buy from a breeder that follows a code of personal values and ethics. In the purebred world, selling a dog without an ancestoral history pretty much guarantees you don't follow the same personal values or ethics that the rest of the purebred breeder world does. If you're happy to risk that, then buy the pup and don't complain. You now know enough to make a decision and if you don't feel you know enough then don't rush in to buy one. Sit back and learn. There will always be pug puppies for sale.
  9. Sometimes life just wears you down. Sounds like she has some serious health issues and after years of battling against puppy farmers, the fact that they are still allowed to operate without much control, perhaps she's decided to save herself. I think she's done a great deal of good to bring awareness of so much cruelty but until pet shops and online sales of all these crossbreeds stop, there's no hope. It's all based on greed. These puppy farmers that sell online mislead buyers by saying they are registered breeders for God's sake Agree. She is publicity savvy and determined and this has done an enormous lot of good. Conversely, she has caused a lot of damage and she was instrumental in setting the scene locally on how to harass by stealth using the internet.
  10. My thoughts exactly. She encouraged and participated in the very behaviour she now claims is so distressing for her that she has been forced to step down from her role. Reap what you sow, as they say.
  11. Oh the poor little thing. I'd be happy to donate to help the woman keep her little dog, if this helps.
  12. On the RSPCA page there is a video of when they first opened the cover to the underground room. The dogs are all barking madly and peering up at the people looking down through the opening. Poor little dogs.
  13. I hope you can find a solution. I'd suggest a medical checkup before doing anything. Sorry, but I'm confused. I thought you didn't have a dog and you wanted a Frenchie to help you through your cancer treatment?

  15. Several reasons. It takes a while to soften and my time restrictions. I'm not sure if you've seen Prescriptives CD kibble? The canned food is a bit like concrete and the kibble is pretty hard too. I'm usually quite busy and travel a lot for work. She has very few teeth as they have been removed. Pugs don't have fabulous teeth anyway normally and they don't always wear their teeth well or evenly because of their jaw/skull shape. Add to that complication a jaw that doesn't meet the other on one side and the fact she was a rescue and appears to have been a little neglected medically, and you end up with an ageing dog that has no hope of chewing anything!
  16. I soak Olivia's kibble in hot water and make it up in batches of up to a weeks worth. She's on a prescription kibble though, for her urinary tract issues, and she has a wry jaw and very little teeth. Soaking it ensures that she increases her fluid intake and that she can eat it.
  17. This is the page that he commented on and that I made reference to above. I'm not sure that it is his page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Giant-Alaskan-Malamute/133785840396
  18. Id set up an area that has tile floors, such as bathroom or laundry, and place puppy pads of loads of newspaper down every night. I would then start saving for a dog door as you have no other real option and it must be stressful for your dog. Being a male, you might have to find something to place in the centre of the paper for him to cock his leg up against. I had the same problem with Monte many years ago before we got the dog door.
  19. Would 'pet' include a budgie or a goldfish? I would think it might be too easily abused. I've taken time off before when a pet has died but I've always used my own time or my boss has allowed me to take off as sick leave. It's common knowledge usually in any office I've worked in that my pets are part of my life and that I am involved with animals in various ways. I usually have a pic or two sitting in my desk or pinned to my board.
  20. That spider shot give me the heeby jeebies! I'm in awe of you clever people. I love browsing this forum. It has to be the best on DOL.
  21. Reading his comments in response to the FB page set up to 'expose' him, he seems very much in denial and blames epilepsy on vaccinations. There certainly does seem to be an overepresentation of epilepsy and kidney issues if the stories are to be believed. Hopefully he looks in to the complaints with an open mind because he may have a problem in his breeding program. It can happen to anyone but if he is in denial, and there is an issue, that would be a worry.
