  1. In this instance, for me, it is a rescue and while I do have her paperwork and know of the breeder I didn't feel inclined to speak with them. I understand also that this particular breeder is sick and no longer breeding. My understanding is that she has been made aware that the dog is in rescue and I am happy to leave it at that. It does however support my stance on the issues in Pug breeding and this is only one example of the many that I have personally been involved with. Thanks Rappie. This is good to know. As I said the other night, I need to have all of the information at ready for this little girl. Knowing that there are cheaper alternatives will help a great help. I will try to give them a call and speak to them.
  2. Thanks. I have spoken with a specialist Vet who owns Pugs himself and has operated on them successfully for BS too. His quote was $2,000. Thanks for this, I appreciate your repsonse. ;)
  3. Thanks Was this done in Sydney?? Did she suffer any complications? What was the recovery time?
  4. I think this is becuase of the difficulty in finding a lab that does titre testing. Previously, the bloods had to be sent to the US but I am lead to believe that a lab in WA now does it? I think Sidoney has it doen with her dogs. PM her perhaps to check.
  5. Thanks Gillbear. This one involves nostrils, saccules and palate done.
  6. Has anyone any surgery related experiences with dogs suffering from brachy syndrome? Costs in particular. Thanks.
  7. OMG, those expensive ones look fabulous!! But the price! I have a similar problem with my Pug who drags his front feet. His knuckles over so much that he has worn a patch on the top of his toe that bleeds. When we walk him we have to walk him on grass as much as possible. He has one nail that is actually sheared off at an angle to almost a point. Most dog boots don't cut it as they are not re-inforced on top which means that they wear within days. The others on that page would be no good for my lad. But $118.00........ I would love them but they are above the budget at the moment.... perhaps a savings plan is in order.
  8. Yes, i tis possible the quicks (the red bits) have extended. You can shorten it by gradually clipping the nails shorter. Have a bar of soap handy when you clip and dig her claw into the soap. It will clog it up and stop it from bleeding. Have you tried other methods of shortening them such as a dremmel (electric file) or a manual file (like you would do with your own). Have you tried a professional groomer? They are expereinced at dealing with this kind of thing and may be able to help.
  9. Thanks. :D After he recently suffered with bromide toxicity I am even more cautious about what I give him. His pica though is an issue as he eats the most disgusting things. I have to worm him every 3 months without fail as he eats his faeces and everyone elses and with rescues coming and going.... *sigh* He is disgusting but oh so cute too! I worry about how his gut handles all of the things he eats.
  10. Thanks Rappie!! :D So, with Monte's enzymes slightly elevated we would jsut continue to monitor unless there is a further change. I assume we should test every time we do Pb and Kbr levels? Thank again!
  11. Thanks Rappie! So, initially, unless there are abnormal results we just go with the norm bloods taken??
  12. I am more worried about the chloride and sodium levels of the products as this interferes with Monte's bromide medication.
  13. I'd suggest a return visit to the Vet, maybe stronger anitbiotics and perhaps some exploratory tests? How long ago was she desexed? Could it be from the desexing?
  14. I tried it successfully... has a taste like green cordial in milk...... but I didn't notice an improvement in anything so I stopped buying and my Oh had the same reaction as you (I am guessing ) Dumb question... but where is Russell Lea? :p
  15. Thanks Toohey. Next question - will it interfere with his anti-seizure medications? I think I will seek advice form his Neuro and show her this PDF to see what she says. Thanks again, Anne
  16. It could be pigmentary keratitis. Causes are varied and many but the end result is partial blindness if the cause is not treated. The brown continues to spread acorss the eye and the dog ends up looking through a curtain of 'brown'. This means they still see movement, light and dark but nothing very well. It can be caused by eyelashes that turn in, dry eye and other irritants. This is from the website: http://www.pugman.com/Pug%20Information/Pi...0Keratitits.htm It is common in Pugs. Best bet is to have it looked at next time you see the Vet. Usually the brown is slow growing and may take years before it spreads but if you grab it early you can resolve it easier.
  17. Fair enough but in my honest opinion you should discount the results then. It was a pointless exercise and a waste of time and your Vet is doing the wrong thing by judging his levels of medication and his seizure control on the results. *shrugs*
  18. Bright red blood that is light in colour can also mean that it is from an atery and is more oxygenated then blood in a vein and therefore it would be more dangerous if it was light.
  19. Rappie and others, can you give dogs yakult and is there any benefit in this? My epileptic suffers from pica. Very recently I watched a video of a probe going into his osephagus and stomach. It was filled with muck and various things, primarily because he eats his feaces... and everyone elses plus rocks and twigs and whatever he can find. Would he benefit from microbiotic therapy at all or would it be a waste? Can you give this to dogs?
  20. Hi Bec, They do it in-house (well at least my Vets do) and they test liver enzymes. Monte's were only slightly elavated and this was normal for a dog on Pb. They usually do it at the time they do the Pb and Kbr but I am not sure it is neccessary to test at trough though. Have you spoken with your Vet? I am pretty new to the liver enzyme testing myself but this is what we have done to date. I hope this helps.
  21. Thanks Bec. puppiesmum, I didn't record when he was on tabs or when we switched to liquid but I have a sneaking suspicion that the liquid maybe absorbed easier in the body. He was on the liquid initially and then we switched to tabs and this, from memory, seems to coincide to when he was having loads of clusters. We went back onto liquid late last year (I think) and now he is suffering from his levels being far too high. Anyone else have any different experiences with bromide??
  22. I'd be demanding they re-test for free as they have stuffed up. The levels should be taken at TROUGH. Basically this means just before he is due for his meds so they can test what the levels in his system are at their lowest. With phenobarb, it is absorbed within the system in 120 minutes and then from then on in it decreased throught the hours until his next dose. Good to hear his seizure activity is nil for the mean while. Edited as you said on the other thread he is already on bromide.
  23. Hi Ben, Can I suggest that you enquire directly with the member known as 'Steve'. PM her and she'll be able to answer your questions.
