It used to be continuous seizure activity of 30 minutes or more in duration. In this classification (and in the later thinking of status as well), Monte goes into status as he does not become fully conscious (aware of his surroundings) in between his seizures when he has clusters and his clusters usually last for 45 - 60 minutes. I think now the general thought is any seizure activity that extend beyond 5 mintues however.

How long did the second seizure last for Varicool? Did he actually go into status or was it just a long grand mal? I hope everything is ok. Update us when you can.

OMG, Sammy I am so very, very sorry to hear your news. After only having lost my little Pug girl, Mollie, on Monday morning I feel your pain.

Do a search... I am positive there is a thread or two in this section by people with dogs with epi. (I should add that I assume you are not referring to epilepsy but rather, exocrene pancreatic insufficiency?)
-
Thank you, it is surprising just how much a few words from people can make you feel comfort. I am feeling better today. The 'if onlys' will probably reverberate around in my head for some time to come though.

I didn't see any of them. She was with me until 4 weeks ago. Her new owners spoke with me very regularly and by the second week she was really settling in with them and her funny little ways were beginning to shine through. Then she stopped eating and her tail dropped. They phoned me and we discussed different possibilities. She ate here and there but it was obvious there was an issue and they took her straight to the Vet. The Vet reported that she was slightly jaundiced and dehyrdrated so they put her on fluid and took. some blood for testing. A physical exam showed no hardness or swelling of her liver or abdomen. The Vet, after receiving her results, said that it appeared to have been a pancreatitis episode. She had been on fluids, had picked up in the 4 days she was hospitalised, was eating and drinking and so she was sent home on medication and a diet of no fat. She was fine for 5 days and on Friday last week she again refused food. Her wieght literally dropped off her again. I saw her Saturday morning. She looked very sick, weak and appeared to be in pain. She was hospitalised again Saturday after I left and passed away this morning. It all happened so quick. 6 weeks ago she was jumping up and down in my kitched and barking at me for her dinner. 4 weeks ago she was barking at her new owners for her dinner. I think this is one reason why it has affected me so much... that and the fact she was such a gorgeous little girl and stole my heart. It was so quick. There was no chance to think.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I still can't say her name or think about her without crying and, for those who know me, this is a little out of character for me. She was the loveliest little Pug and I have spent the better part of 8 months getting her well so that she could be re-homed. She faced so many battles and came through each one time after time, to now, only 4 weeks after finding her forever home being knocked down by cancer. Only 3 weeks ago she was bouncing around and getting to know her new family. It happened so quickly.

I am absolutely gutted. I can't believe she is gone. If I had know she only had such a short time left on this earth I would not have put her through all that brachy surgery only a few months ago. I would have left her be and just loved her. SHe hated veterinary clinics and the surgery was tough on her.

My gorgeous Miss Mollie, the sweetest little Pug and the only rescue who truly stole my heart passed away this morning of suspected pancreatic cancer. I am shattered. RIP Tysambee Millicent 08/09/2000 - 03/032008

Yes, they appeared to be stainless steel as was the stand. Here is the link to the Ikea stuff. These are different to the stands I saw there last week. The ones I saw were silver and the top was a ring or hoop that the bowl sat in. Ikea

Ikea sell them I noticed last weekend. Twin bowl holders and matching bowls.

I am so sorry to hear your news. RIP Basil.

How sad. Sending you the strongest of get well vibes. Keep positive.

Good luck and loads of pug hugs for your little one.

I hope he is ok. What has your Vet said?
-
I take bits of advice from everywhere... even the latest threads on prey feeding.

Research and results. Some of their diet is predicted by my epileptic dog as well.
-
Thanks! I'll check it out. :D

This may be a dumb question but..... if a dog has pancreatitis and is on a fat free or low fat diet, would fish oil caps hurt? Is fish oil in the same category and processed in the body like fats?

My dog Boofy did a simalr thing last year. His nail was actually half hanging out though. The Vet pulled it out completely in the end. Initially it was thought the nail wouldn't grow back as he had damaged the bed but he now has a nail growing again. Perhpas call your vet and ask him whathe advises? I would think keeping it clean and trying to discourage your dog from licking it though would suffice.

A decent thread? :D Are you seriously that naive or lacking in forethought, that you believe ANY thread will only contain information you want? Last time I looked this was a public forum. Threads RARELY stay exactly to the point of a topic. Since when were you made judge, jury and executioner on what is allowed to be discussed in any thread? The discussion has been interesting and many have added in links that are educational and thought provoking.

Yes sorry, my answer isn't really clear is it. :D I wasn't debating that point. I firmly believe that they did desend from wolves. I just don't place as much importance on that evolutionary link that some advocates of behaviour training and raw feeding do. Anyway Tess... you know me... Ilike to debate

The link doesn't work?? I copied and pasted it anyway. The article you have quoted from uses research from 1967 and is a website devoted to christina beleifs, not scientific beliefs. It is only natural they would discount the theory as they believe that humans were a 'creation of God' and not an evolutionary species. Research, as late as 2002 states; The latest twist in the debate over how much DNA separates humans from chimpanzees suggests we are so closely related that chimps should not only be part of the same taxonomic family, but also the same genus. The new study found that 99.4 percent of the most critical DNA sites are identical in the corresponding human and chimp genes. With that close a relationship, the two living chimp species belong in the genus Homo, says Morris Goodman of Wayne State University in Detroit. Source: New Scientist Journals "Chimps are human, gene study implies" 19 May 2003 As a basis yes. I guess my point is that people who say that dogs are descendants of wolves and should be fed like a wolf are incorrect in my opinion. The same goes for comparing a dogs behaviour to that of a wolf in the wild. Lets put it this way... I will continue to let my dogs through doorways first if they desire and I will feed them usually before I eat, and I will feed my bottom of the pack dog before the alpha Given that I am not a scientist, nor do I have a 100% complete grasp on genetics, these are all only my personal thoughts and beliefs about feeding dogs. I do continue to learn though and my views are always altering as I learn new things. :D

Your source for this info? There are several species as far as I am aware that are able to interbeed. As for chimps and humans? I am not sure, I have not ever seen anything written about this. Thanks Tess, interesting indeed. It favours discussion on cats but makes some relevant point about the time frame and evolution of the domestic dog. So far, the articles that I have read and the arguments I have seen still haven't convinced me that the domestic dog of today should be treated and or compared to the wolf or its ancestory when it comes to specifics of feeding and other matters. Whilst I can agree that a diet specific for a canine is ultimately better (as oppsoed to people thinking they are little humans and should eat the processed crap some humans eat) I remain unconvinced that their diet should be based on wolves. The wolf and the domestic dog in my view are similar but not the same. :D
