The fact that I said 'I understand' conveys that I do not know them personally. I recall looking at their website some time back when someone first alerted me to them. The website stated quite clearly that they were being penalised in the ring I recall and that it was taking time for acceptance (or words to that effect). I am sure someone will point you in the right direction of who they are.

I agree with the essence of what you are saying, just not the time frame. It has definitely been proven that many brachy breeds have been bred for features that are to the extremes and are incredibly damaging to the health of the breed, but it has happened over the last 50 years or so. Bulldogs and Pugs are an expensive breed to own and maintain. To my knowledge, Bulldog prices reflect the fact that they are hard to breed. The greater majority require ceasar births and they have trouble mating. I understand there is a BB breeder who is working very hard to rectify this and he has been bashed in the show ring becuase of it.... such a bizarre state of affairs.

Thank you for your fast reply Anne..I suspect the same..the vet does not have a fine enough instrument to check high enough ..she is only small ..Did the Uni remove the grass seed or did it just break up eventually ?? The uni removed it.
-
Thanks, but I am not a believer of his theories.

It happened to my cousins JRT. They live in Western NSW and were eventualy referred to Sydney Uni Vet Hosp. It turned out to be an embedded grass seed.
-
Anyone?
-
I wouldn't think that any Vet would willingly disfigure a dog to make a buck. The scale of surgery was obviously neccessary. $850 is not a high price either for the work that appears to have been done.

RIP Maggie. Hugs to you Pugmum

I have always allowed access to water and have prepared umpteen rescues for surgery of one type or another.

Tell her that no name incontinence pads are the best to use... although for a Chi I guess you wouldn't need anything to thick.

Does anyone have an epileptic dog that they treat with keppra? The last conversation I had with Monte's neuro, around 3-4 years ago, was that it had to be given every 8 hours to keep the levels in his system at adequate control levels. I have now been told that many dogs are being given it every 12 hours with good results, although I am hearing this from OS forum members as keppra seems to be uncommon in Australia. Does anyone here personally give keppra for an epileptic dog?

I am amazed that the AWL would actually have someone posting ona dog forum looking for products..... surely they are a little more professionally run that that or is the QLD version different to NSW? I mean, seriously??

Wow, how do you get such preciseness with the percentage of breed in a cross bred dog? I have never yet seen an 'aussie' bulldog that looks anything even remotely like a British either. They look more like a boxer if you ask me.

He looks just perfect puggerup. As someone said above, simply split his current meal in half or 60/40 to feed him twice a day.

I tried to answe this from work on my iPhone but it doesn't do edits very well. Firstly, I don't believe breeders who are selling pups should be asking about peoples work circumstances......it's not relevant in the vast majority of cases (Xolo's apparently excepted). It's not withholding important information, it's someone asking irrelevant questions. If I were seeking a puppy from a breeder I'd never met before, I would expect to be asked about where the pup would be housed, what it would be fed, what activities I had in mind (dog sports, showing etc), previous dog owning history etc. And these are questions I was asked when I bought my dogs. I would not expect to be asked about my work, my income, my employer, my friendships, my relationships....because that has absolutely nothing to do with the level of care I can and do provide a dog. Any dog (Xolo's excepted). There are loads of people who don't work, who own dogs and never let the dogs inside, never take them anywhere, feed them cheap crappy food, don't groom them. I am not one of them. Nor are a lot of other fulltime employees. It's not about being evasive, it's about relevant details. I aksed some questions about employment as there are dogs that require more company then others. If someone was, for example, the National Sales Manager for a large multinational, they may be required to travel frequently or spend long hours away from home. However, my questionnaire was wirtten in such a way that I didn't intrude on personal information where possible. The questions asked, that were relevant to this were : Are you employed (with appropriate 'please circle' answers such as full-time, part-time) and How many hours a day will the dog(s) be left at home alone.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Hi Jed, I can't believe I have only just come to the realisation you have been back on DOL. I really have no words to say other than I hope you are ok. You seem like a strong woman and your bravery will always be something that amazes me. I hope your recovery is swift. Take care, you are still in my thoughts, Anne -
In my view, a young pup or adolescent should only be alone for very limited periods. This period would increase as the dog gets older, and th eincrease would depend on breed and the emotional needs of the individual dog. Some breeds are more independant than others and handle solitude far better. I'd rather never see a dog of any age completely alone on a regular basis however, and due to this, I have always had more than one dog.

Dolers With Brachycephalic Breeds Of Dogs

Interesting about the 'nylon' bone claim. I have never had this issue. I only buy Nylabones though, not copies so maybe there is a difference in the quality. To be honest, the diet I feed my Pugs works for them and it works for me and I dare anyone to find a health issue, related to poor diet, in any of my Pugs. Moselle, you are understandably cautious about choking issues. As I said, you should feed what you feel is best for you and your dogs, without any guilt, and certainly take all comments on board to get a good rounded balanced view. -

Moselle, don't be made to feel guilty or less of a dog owner if you don't subscribe to the same theory as others. Ensure though that you have a way of keeping your dog's teeth in good order though and feed your dogs whatever you want. -

It is also related to physical structure. Elongated palates and deformed or narrow tracheas don't just interfere with respiration alone. This can be compounded in Pugs, as you said though, by the way they 'inhale' food. -

Sorry to hear about Conrad. Choking can happen with any breed but it can be more prevelant in bracchy breeds for many reasons. I have 3 Pugs and my Pugs get shank bones to chew on. The bones are purely for jaw exercise and teeth cleaning. They are primarily a raw diet normally and the bones are additional, once a week or so during the day. I also encourage mine to chew on nylabones. They love them in fact. -

I am hoping we might have rescuers, animal lovers or caring community members, who reside within the Blacktown electorate, who might be able to assist me in a task. It will only take a few minutes of your time and will involve email or snail mail. If anyone who resides in the Blacktown electorate feels they may like to assist can you pm me or send me an email to a(dot)millard(at)optusnet.com.au You must reside within the electorate though. Thanks.

Dogs will also mimic others. If a male dog regularly spends time with other males that cock, then they will most likely do it earlier. I have a male who was desexed at 6 months and he has cocked his leg for the last 4 or 5 years because the instinct was intensified with rescues coming through and he also mimicked I would think. Lots of the rescues were entire and some were very religious markers.

Like many old wives tales and myths, some of it is based on a fine sliver of truth. The wool wash myth would be based on the fact that eucalyptus is a natural insect deterrant. How effective it is, is debatable.
