I will be going. I try and go several times, mainly for the dog show. I don't show, but I love watching them. Look forward to seeing other DOLers and their dogs. Should be easy to spot you, Miss Monster!

More cute than funny, but here is my baby.

Excellent, thanks Tony. Looks like I was misinformed re the check chain. I feel much better now. I better get my finger out and make the call re joining. I may even pop along the next time it's on, to watch a class in action.

When she moves to Springfield Lakes she will be quite close to Agility Dog Club of Queensland at Tivoli/Ipswich. They do basic obedience classes from 16 weeks and then the puppies can move into agility from there. (All age appropriate of course.) The Obedience is not formal ring type obedience, it is more focussed on building a relationship as the foundation for agility. Cheers Tony I am looking at joining up there, Tony. Have your experiences been good with them? I heard a check chain is required, so I was a little hesitant, but have now bought one. I was hoping for positive reinforcement as the training method, but as they are close to me, I will attend there and see what it's like.

That's what owning a Dobe is all about!!

Monika, I am so sorry to hear about Rex's passing. I just watched the slideshow - perfect song to accompany the photos. Very emotional to watch...had to get my box of tissues It's not fair that our dogs are taken so early. Rex was extremely handsome, and a beautifully proud looking boy. You forget how much it hurts when it's their time. Take care Monika *hugs* Lisa

This is my boy Benson. He's a Staffordshire. Usually first up in the mornings he is very excited and nips at our feet (mine, and the kids). The other main problem we have is after we have been somewhere in the car. Once we are back in the car, he barks and barks right at me VERY loudly. It's not aggressive in any way...just really loud and annoying for about a minute. I wish I knew what he was "saying"!

Hmmm, I'm am going to hang around for answers too I have seen the water bottle used, and intend to try it too. Someone suggested vinegar and water, but I wasn't sure if it would sting his eyes. Maybe lemon juice and water would be better...or just plain water? Looking forward to seeing some suggestions.

Hi Percyk, Regarding the BioZet mixed with water - do you make it up as a paste, or dissolve it in water? I looked at Pee Off at the vet, and it was $26. I have some BioZet at home, so I want to try that. He is 14wks, and used to go out for toileting. After a few rainy nights, and VERY chilly mornings, he has now reverted back to doing "both" in the laundry on the tiles. I normally mop with disinfectant, but I realise now that isn't getting the scent/enzymes away. I want to see if removing his "scent" with BioZet will stop him doing it every night. Thanks.

Cruciate Ligament Surgery
jadesamara replied to monkeytrunks's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi MT. I can't offer you many questions etc, but I can offer some support. Our female Dobe (yes, believe it or not our girl got the same injury!) tore her cruciate ligament somehow on our property. She was about 6-7 when it happened, I think. We lost her 31/3/10 aged 14yrs, 1 week, so it obviously didn't impact too much on her life! We did have a few troubles after the surgery though. The wound didn't seem to heal at all in the first week, and started swelling and looking inflamed. We took her back to the vet, who prescribed antibiotics for infection. Another week after that, I took her back yet again. Things were not improving. He agreed, and decided to "go back in" and give it a clean out. It turns out her body was rejecting the implant. He removed the prosthetic part, and instead tightly sutured the ligaments and ? (stuff). It was hard to understand at the time, and so long ago, but I believe he wrapped the part tightly with the nylon so it wouldn't move. Anyway, we kept her quiet (hard as we had another dog the same age), and she healed pretty well (albeit scarred from the numerous openings). She did develop arthritis in that knee pretty early on, though. But overall, it was fine. Once they are on their feet and mobile, you will see it would be the best thing you ever did for her! Good luck with it all. Fingers crossed for you that she makes a speedy recovery. Keep us informed! -
Isn't it just! Poor Dobe...but it sure is funny Kylie, your art work is amazing. Especially the Dobes! I checked out your website last night...you have such a special talent. Wow! :D

Noisymina, you have to see this. So adorable!! :D

I agree with you on federico moravia heart. He is stunning to look at. I am counting the days until my Dobe is born - the mating well went, apparently. Did you see the pics of the Dobes at the RSPCA Million Paws Walk? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3878...;id=23146549325 *sigh*...only approx 122 days to go edit to remove pic

Sorry! It's ok. I only gave him his first one last week, so my stomach dropped when I read your post, and literally ran out into the dog drawer to check the box!
-
Just checked the box. "Not recommended for puppies under 14 weeks" The vet knows he is on it, and it's for 9.1kg +, which Benson falls into. Phew! Had me worried then. Edited after I checked Benson's DOB. He's 15wk, not 14.

I have found a pill called Comfortis works for us. My dog is 14wks, and I spray his bedding and sleeping area in Malawash spray, and give him Comfortis pill once a month. I also used Malawash to bathe him in once a week for 2 weeks to get them eliminated. I'm sure others will have a million other ideas, so good luck. I thought we would never get rid of them...persevere, and you'll get there...it just takes time.

Yes, a problem here too. My 13wk Staffy had a vet visit today (he tore his nail last night) and it was great timing as he had a severe flare-up last night. He belly was red raw, so we got out the NeoCort cream previously prescribed for it, as well as getting antibiotic pills as it had turned into folliculitis (infection down in the hair follicle). The shampoo and conditioner called PyoHex is good for the outside, and the cream and pills will work from the inside. It's frustrating, I know. We live on acreage, and it's just not practical to confine him to a certain area away from grasses etc. Hope all goes well for your dog. Keep us informed.

I was waiting for the catch, but it never came After reading that I think I'm going to trade my SBT for a Dobey...how much do ya think I would get on changeover Wotan, don't do that. Do what I do...have a SBT AND a Dobe! As long as they aren't the same sex, they get on wonderfully...and it's the best of both worlds! I couldn't be without either breed. Have you got your puppy you were looking for ??? Bisart Dobes... No, not yet. I went to 2 shows recently and met with a QLD breeder. Her bitch has such a wonderful temperament, and her bitch and I have formed a nice bond together. She is certainly something special. I am going to be patient and wait for a pup from her litter around September. Thanks for your emails, and best of luck with Rhemy. May she have a trouble-free pregnancy and healthy, happy fur-kids

jadesamara replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in General Dog Discussion
How much for one of these? At least it will stop the kids fighting over who gets to pat him!
