  1. thanks ! I have actually now been speaking to the people From the Cav association, I am hoping to meet one lady with a 4 month old over the w/e, he looks and sounds like what i am after, other then that i will be going along to one of the shows over easter just to meet some people then they will know what i am like in person, not just over the phone.
  2. yes some kids do get bored...and i have seen them lol I am an "83" baby...and i am one of 6 kids..we all had fun ! and thats what you are meant to be doing as a child
  3. hehe i know what you mean! if i ever move to qld i'll let ya know! My mil goes back and forth from the farm 4 times a week...i have so many eggs i dont know what to do with them! Everyone that knows me gets a dozen when they visit. Well my dh is very happy with how the kids reacted to the puppy. So i told him thats it..no longer looking for an older dog..watch this space...this time next week we may have a new lil dog baby boy of our own
  4. I feel for children who are not given permission to enjoy animals. Animals of all shapes and sizes are wonder for kids. I have a friend who lives on a farm with her 5 children and husband and she won't allow the kids to have a dog - which is such an enormous pity. When I was discussing dogs for my kids with her she commented that she felt she just couldn't trust a dog with her kids because of all the bad press... I have another friend who won't allow her kids in their early child hood years to do craft etc at home. That is what playgroup was for she says. My kids paint, playdough, make hats, boats, stick down, cut out, grow veges, play in the dirt, eat the dirt (at certain ages), play in the sandpit, get led around on horses, play with dogs, the list is endless. The older two (5, and TODAY turning 3) play happily outside together for hours on end, and come in filthy and usually wet. This is what childhood should be like, I think. Our house is messy and creative, but mostly pretty clean. Our rainwater tank has a changing mural on it and our concrete paths are ususally covered in coloured chalk. The kids are often in dress ups or no clothes at all (though I've started to discourage nudity in my 5 year old). The collect the eggs, chase the cat, let the chooks out and round them up again. And I have the enormous priveledge and joy of being a SAHM. Long live kids and dogs and mess and love and music and fingerpaint! YES I AGREE!! I am a firm beleiver that pets are great for kids...and i have only waited to get a dog once my youngest turned 1 Happy birthday to your 3 year old for today!! I have 1 march and 2 april babies And the craft thing is a bit silly...we dont do playgroup..but when renovating our deck, i chose to put a locable gate on it...they have free access to that patio, there is a cubby, easle you name it...its their "messy area" kids need to be kids...otherwise they become terrors haha I wish i was able to have chickens..i love the idea of collecting eggs in the morning,,my dh is not wanting them here...well thats what our hobby farm is for hehe...thank god for that!
  5. aww you people are so cute lol i definately would not just buy the dog and take her home...i would be just as stringent with my children being around the dog, the fact that she has never been around kids is a worrying issue to me . I stopped a lady walking a 3 month old ckcs out the front of our house today...we had a long talk...and she let my children spend a bit of time with her puppy. i was amazed at how gentle the pup and my kids were- expecially my 1 yr old ;)!! so i more convinced that they are ready for a dog
  6. There is always a way for them to get out of paying!! disgracful!! I hope the puppy pulls through whatever it is thats making it not eat etc x
  7. I know who it is so dont worry i am steering clear, I am going to meet with some breeders at the shows etc..just to let people know who i am. I am glad you were able to find dogs with your kids so young, I think also though the cksc is more of a toy dog, so the breeders are very selective with who they choose. I have shown interest now i a 4 yr old bitch that is going to become avail in june never been around kids though so i will see where that goes.
  8. thanks for all your info, i have made a couple of enquires. so i will see how that works out. If not if anyone would like to help us out, you can pvt me :D I will be patient
  9. Yes i have but dh doesnt like them grrr Atleast we agree on 2 colours lol
  10. hey, you only have Ruby dogs though? I am after a bleheim or tri-coloured thanks anyways
  11. could also be wishful thinking lol,..something may pop up we will see i am thinking that i was too picky to begin with..maybe if an older dog comes along i would look and see if the personality fitted with us
  12. There are ALL BREEDS Shows there over the Easter Weekend. Definitely Monday (I'm going) but the next CAVALIER BREED SHOW is at Lancefield in June I believe?? Bit of a hike for us Eastern (and Southern ) suburb people. Well let me know what times and i will run down there to introduce myself to the breeders Sometimes I think we ALL make "RODS for our backs" by adding to our workload in some ways. As Cavaliers are definitely INDOOR MOSTLY dogs it WILL mean more work for you and your little ones will be covered in hair, but as you said, you had a Cav (Carla?) so you already know what's invloved in their care. I had one come into my care, his name was Oliver and he was dumped, after having him in my life for a couple of weeks, that made me fall inlove with the breed - i was sad to see him go
  13. well some minor developments... I have decided to look into a baby , and have searched the breeders page and found a breeder in my area who raises her pups with small children, I gave her a call and without any promises we have decided that when her next litter is due (2 weeks) she will call and arange for me to visit the pups when they are 6 weeks old to see how the kids react around them. I did want a 6 mth plus dog, and something might just come up whilst i am waiting for these pups to be born, i am a little hesitant to get a newbie - although my DH thinks in the end it may be the best thing...a couple of months of juggling the kids with the dog or introducing an older pup that may have never been in contact with children. Well wondering what peoples thoughts on this are. I just wanna make sure in the end I do the right thing for my children and the dog. Cindy
  14. Same thing i am looking for. I hope you find what you are looking for aswell Cindy
  15. I am after preferrably a male, but i would not turn away a female if she was the right dog for us. blenheim or tri-colour
  16. if anyone reading this knows of such a breeder i would love to hear from them
  17. yeah i know. WHO WANTS TO COME VISIT ME LOL I am baking a white choc raspberry cake as we speak hehe So when is the next big cav meet at KCC park in vic..i can go there..its 10 mins drive.
  18. my god that took me so long to do that reply...new to the forum so the editing is overwhelming
  19. Don't agree with this though. When I was looking for my Cocker my girls were fairly young - oldest was 8, youngest was 18 months old when she came to us so they were quite a bit younger when I first started the search (took a looooooooooong time to get my girl ). I don't know the answer to why you aren't having much luck - it might just not be 'your time' There will be a pup/dog out there for you that IS the right one i believe in fate...and i am really starting to think its not my time My childrens ages are 4, 2 and 1...I tend to get the how do i cope now from ppl..and then it begs the question how will i cope with a dog aswell..You just do. and it wont make a difference to me , The dog will be spoilt rotten and have 5 people after its attention.
  20. Look i think everyone pretty much agrees with keeping the dog away from the other animals...I have had someone in my family experience something similar..the moved the small animals to the front yard, and the dog stayed out the back, dogs are also territorial and she is proberly not taking kindly to other animals being in her space. I hope your friend works something out.
  21. Yeah i am starting to think this is a problem with many mums of young kids, atleast we arent just ringing some random from the trading post and getting a puppy farmed dog..i am just as picky with my breeders are they are with me. and definately I have been asking if they are good with children. my number one requirement! We have a farm also (hobby farm in bayles) and live elsewhere...so our kids are very well adapt to how to treat animals and how to run away from goats lol
  22. Will the pup be coming inside the house with the family? If not, I think this could be big part of your problem. I was going to ask if this would be an inside with the family dog. Unless you are prepared to allow the CKCS inside (not necessarily in all of the house) at night to spend time with your family and sleep it inside then my guess is not many breeders will be interested in selling you a pup. CKCS are are toy breed, selectively bred for a very long time to focus on and want to be with people. I expect if you are planning on sleeping the pup in the laundry, that won't appeal to many breeders. No matter how loving your kids are, you won't be able to leave them unsupervised with the pup. Are you up for that? I'd certainly not allow them to pick the puppy up - a wriggling pup can be dropped and badly injured. the dog will be an inside dog - obviously doing its business outside...my patio and laundry are places where the dog can go for time out if the kids get a bit rowdy, and i will teach them, like i taught them with the kitten, not to pick it up and pat only when they are siting down. They are very bright and have never done any hard to our lucy cat.
  23. HAHA dont tempt me!! i would love a lil pup...but i have to think of the kids, well the dog really.. I want them to enjoy each others company
