  1. Hi Megan I am from Victoria. Thanks Blackbelgian It looks like I really need a good luck
  2. Hi! It's me again :) . Thank you for your posts. Now I am looking for a handler for Giant Schnauzer (junior class), we would like to show him from august. As I do not know many people in show world I need a help in my searching. May be someone would like to try to show him?. Please send all your questions into my PM. Thanks!
  3. Thank you Edpra! That was helpful. It is not so difficult to work out the price for petrol, accommodation, grooming and some other expenses, but what about showing the dog in the ring? I am from Europe, and it is normal thing to pay handler for it's job, of course some handlers show dogs for free to get more experience and confidence. But in Europe there are more dog owners involved in dog show world and the interest in professional handlers quiet high. So, they do a job for you and you have to pay for it. The question is what is the average price for showing dog in the ring?
  4. I mean if professional handler will show my dog.
  5. Hi Could you please give me an idea about cost of show handling ( dog from utility group ) I understand that it is very individual, but I would like to know the approximate numbers. Many thanks.
  6. Yes you can get solid black pups from black and tan parents.
  7. Using of conditioner depends on type of coat and are you preparing dog for show or not. If coat is quiet coarse you do not need to use conditioner at all. Some dogs have very coarse coat, this coat is very easy for taking care about it, but for show it is quiet difficult coat and sometimes groomers and breeders use conditioner before show to make coat more softer ( easier for show grooming). For the most of the dogs it is recommended to use mask before bath and use conditioner after bath when you groom dog between shows. When you prepare dog for show do not use conditioner on body, only on legs and beard. Was there a reason that the other colours were ruled out of the breed? With such a strong working background, I would have thought most of those colours would have been fine? becks now it is quiet complicated. One of the problem is in the name of breed, black and tan Black Russian Terrier sounds funny, isn't it? And the biggest question is what to do with black puppies from two black and tan ( for example) parents?
  8. ChristineX :D But remember this dog is not recognised color. BRT can be only black.
  9. this is the same dog at age 6 weeks
  10. Few months ago there was a very hot discussion on Russian forum about a dog with the same color. The question was is it black and silver color or black and tan? As I remember most of the breeders said this is black and tan color. I can find that topic and double check for you but I need few days to do this. There are many non recognised colors in BRT- blue, gray, white, black and tan, airdale's color, sable. Sometimes they can be like this

  12. There are photos from National Speciality show Dmitrov 2011 http://www.chernish.ru/photo/index.php?gallery=20110528 BRT in atack
  13. Food for thought, yes, but this means for me only one thing - do your homework before buy a puppy. As for me, it is more important to see another pups from parents of my future puppy. To see how they move, to know about health in older age. For example father of my dog has HD- C. In age 8-9 years he moves absolutely perfect, his kids( mostly) have no problem with hips. When my girl was growing she had no problems with joint at all. Of course it is also extremely important to keep dogs weight in balance and exercise them regularly, slowly increasing intensity of exercising. So the same rules as for any other dogs of large breed. The gene pool in Australia is very small. About weak nerves, I have seen only few BRT in Australia, and dogs I saw were balanced and self-confident.
  14. Hi RiverStar-Aura, BRT is definetely not the best breed for flyball or agility ( too big and too heavy ). They never will be successful in these competitions. But I know there is one BRT in Russia who is quiet good in agility. I think it is important what kind of temperament your dog has and what kind of body. But they are very successful in obidience and some dogs in IPO. What would you say about this dog? Can you see Airdale in it? This dog was born in 1989.
  15. The number of BRT in US is too small to make this statistic valuable. And it is not serious to make any consequence about breed health rely on statistic from only one country. Here are results of International Certificate Hip/Elbow dysplasia of BRT for Russian breeding http://www.blackterrier.ru/rus/menu0/main.htm
  16. In the end of the March there were two International dog shows 'Eurasia 2011' in Moscow. This is one of the most prestigious dog show in Russia. There were entered around ten dogs in every class, the biggest classes as usual were junior's classes. Here are photos from the first day http://www.chernish.ru/photo/index.php?gallery=20110326 There is a video of junior dogs class http://video.mail.ru/mail/machk0205/15/21.html open dogs class http://video.mail.ru/mail/machk0205/15/19.html This is BOB of the first day Kleopatra iz Chigasovo
  17. As a vet I can tell you that 1. chiken wings is not the best food for pups 2. Chiken meat is #1 wich can cause allergic reaction in dogs.
  18. They are not noisy, and they don't bark at every sound. They do not have a doggy smell, if they are healthy and you take care about the coat properly. But fungus infection on the beard can cause specific smell. So you need to keep beard clean and dry. They are calm and relaxed dogs with medium energy level. In my opinion 0,5 - 1 hour for walk a day is not enough. I would say 1,5-2 hours a day, plus very long walk on weekends. Do not forget, they need a work ( even to follow you on walks), if they will be bored and do not have a work, you can have serious behaviour's problems with them.

    Samoyed

I am not a big fan of clipping Samoyeds and all doublecoated breeds. The reasons why 1. As a rule, clipping ruins the coat 2 It is almost impossible to clip this type of coat without good brushing before( i mean the coat must be perfectly brushed). Even blade#7 does not clip unprepared coat. And after clip you still have to brush your dog, even if the coat is still quiet short, without this it will be matted even faster than unclipped coat.
  20. You do not have to clip BRT if you do not want to, but remember they need to be trimmed quiet often. If BRT looks like a bear this is not right, and it is extremely difficult to keep very long coat in a good condition. And take a look on a previouse page, I told there what you can do with coat during the summer.
  21. My dogs prefix - iz Russkoi Dinastii All photos I have not so good to show them, because these photos are from show rings and quiet small. Unfortunately import from Russia is so complicated and so expensive that I am not sure when exactly I will bring them, definetely not in next year.
  22. No I do not show my dogs in Australia, not yet, because my dogs are still in Russia. I do not have a profile on dogzonline, but I hope you will have a chance to see them when I bring them into Australia. Yes all dogs on photos are Russian dogs, except the first photo of male with tail- this is Ukranian dog.
  23. Hello ChristineX If you allow your dog to manipulate you, and you do not understand the consequences of this - BRT is not the best breed for you. As the leader, it falls to you to set the rules, boundaries, and limitations for life inside and outside the house. If you can not enforce your dog to follow this rules boundaries and limitations the BRT is not the best choice. If you are not 100% sure that you are strong enough you can get female. Yes I agree with you, that is why BRTs with long tail are not very popular in Russia. Usually breeders leave the tail for very promising pups, and they can get more titels in Europe This is a link to one of Russian kennels, there is an article about BRT's Grooming on English. http://www.d-keitos.narod.ru/QUESTIONS/195a.htm
