  1. My girl is a total tick magnet. Luckily we're not in a paralysis tick area (yet), but nothing works to stop them on her. We've tried sprays, tablets, collars, injections, washes and still they are always there. Is it possible she's allergic to them? You can alway see where she's had a tick because the area swells and she gets rashes. She's always covered in scabs from tick bites and is starting to lose her fur. I'm so at a loss on what to do. We pull ticks twice a day, and she's not getting any mature ones any more, but is still getting tons of tiny little bush ticks. Her poor skin is so red and itchy, especically her feet and tummy. Any suggestions?
  2. Maybe keep him tethered to you, so you always have quick access to him?
  3. We go gardening or playing in the rain. Our other dog is terrified of rain and storms so I made sure my girl knew that storms were fun!
  4. My OH is a 'dogs outside only' kind of man. But he understands my need for my girl to be with me, so deals with her being inside. He knows that he can't have me without her.
  5. We're moving to Armidale NSW, so my next thought is of good obedience clubs
  6. We're starting to pack our house for an interstate move, and my girl is getting really anxious/depressed/unsettled by it all. How can I make this process easier for her?
  7. a lack of sunshine also causes depression.
  8. I didn't train my dog to do it. I did it the 'wrong way' I guess. We use her retractable leash and a few verbal cues (wait, come closer). She's been run over a few times, and before we switched to the retractable leash she had me off once. I just hook the handle of the leash over my handle bar where it grips onto my handlebar grips. ETA dyzney, i chose a bike with bmx style back breaks and normal front breaks. Works a dream with the dogs.
  9. There's some not so nice dogs at Marlows, my girl's been attacked a few times. We've started going during the day sort of 10am - 3pm because it's pretty empty. The rest of Marlows is On-Leash only. Including the oval.
  10. My girl likes to sleep under things She got herself under her bed! Missing the meaning of her tramp bed
  11. Our old boy follows you around until you vacuum him!
  12. wow...maybe she did lick a toad, is he reluctant to let you open his mouth too? He hates us opening his mouth at the best of times, so it takes two of us after he's got a toad. This is a dog who hunts them out purely to lick or chomp them. Once he's got his 'hit' he's done with it and it hops off. He can be out of sight for the time it takes to put a bag of rubbish in a wheely bin and when you look he's drooling and spaced out. Addict.
  13. When my moron (heeler X) gets a toad he foams for a while, then drools and does the 'chewing' thing where he just opens and closes his mouth. But he gets hosed until he pukes.
  14. I've got a 2 year old Border Collie X and i feel it's really time we started attending obedience regularly. She's a pretty good girl, knows sit, wait, down, come, roll over, shake, off (couches) and how to run along with my bike. But she's not really socialised and isn't sure how to behave around other dogs, and I'd love for her to be able to do agility. So really, who is reccomeded for obedience in Darwin? I have pretty bad anxiety which is partly why we've not gone before but now that i'm getting that under control I think she'd love it. ETA i'm aware obedience isn't about socalising, but i'd like for her to realise that being around other dogs is ok.
  15. My dogs and cats all shed like crazy, they range in coats from a thick double coat (cat) to a very thin greyhound type coat (dog).
  16. I adore biking with my girl. It's something we've just started but it's the most incredible endorphin boost. Nothing makes me as happy as seeing her huge tired grin as she walks down the drive way after a ride.
  17. My Daisy hate poos. Hers, other dogs, bird, chicken, horse. It's all icky. If she's walking along, just sniffing around and encounters poo she wrinkles her nose and goes around it as far as she can. She won't eat her bone if it's been near poo.
  18. I don't have access to OT yet, so I thought I'd ask here. I'm in the market for a new bucket hat (gardening) and I'd like an anti BSL or anti pet shop one... anyone know where i could get one?
  19. Our dogs get their own egg on toast every Sunday. My mother feels bad if they miss out *rolls eyes*
  20. Daisy came to teach me how to love with all my heart, how to laugh and that life is worth living.
  21. I use the black dog Infin8 halter, because on anything else she has the ability to pull, slip out of, ignore or pull me over. She loves her halter and knows that it means walks. We use a retractable leash when swimming in places that have other dogs around (never with other dogs or people close by, more when doing laps along the beach in the water), but as soon as she's out of the water we're back to her usual flat leash. It stops her flat leash clips rusting or getting full of sand and crap.
  22. My girl is a foot licker, she gets right in between your toes and will often lick your foot until it's soppy then start up the leg. She does it for pure enjoyment, her eyes are always closed in absolute happiness.
  23. My girl was so outraged at her elizabethan collar, that she enlisted the help of our other dog to chew it off her! He chewed the tags that hold it onto the collar and then they killed it.
  24. Our vet does condolences and Christmas cards (which are addressed to the animal).
