  1. Hi ;) I love these fuzzyard tags http://pawspoint.com.au/accessories-33/tags-108/ Especially the " I food" one.
  2. Yes, I guess I will have to learn to live with it as you said cowanbree I say to people 'I really love this breed of dog', and I often get the reply 'oh but dont you know how much hair that dog sheds!!!!' ;) Thanks for all your replies everyone!
  3. Hi Sunnyflower, wow i had no idea Cavs shed that much, I just assumed they didnt shed at all i guess (i dont know why ). I love Cavs, one of my favorite small dog breeds, every one i have ever met has been absolutly beautiful ;)
  4. Hi everyone, Just curious about different dogs and shedding. I know that German Shepherds are supposed to be champion shedders, so how do their owners minimise this? When you hug them does the fur get all over you? Is the amount of hair comming out tollerable? What breed of dog do you have and how much do they shed? What are your shedding minimising tips and tricks?
  5. Thanks Ozstar kennels, thats good to know, as we though it would be passed on to all pups. Thanks
  6. Thanks thats very helpful
  7. Hi everyone , Just wanting to ask a question about boxers and the 'cork screw' gene. Are there any problems accociated with this gene and the health of the boxer? A family friend is looking for a puppy and there is a litter due soon with both short tailed and long tailed dogs, will this comprimise the health of the littler in any way? (he is after a long tailed boxer). Sorry if this is a silly question, Thanks
  8. Hi GRLC, I hope that that dog does get home ok and that the owners are given a fine and a talking to for letting him roam, especially on a busy street. I too have had some not so good encounters with an animal controll ranger. I rang about a dog that was roaming about my house looking very scared and very thirsty, so i gave him some water and called the 'dog catcher' so they could come and collect him. I was told that i should just let him go and what happens happens (i.e, if he gets run over to bad). Well I was so shocked that anyone would say this!. As I was young and living at home with my mum, when she found out she rang the ranger back and gave him an earfull. In the end, only because we wouldnt stop bothering them, the ranger came and picked up the dog, scanned him for a microchip (which luckily he had) and he was returned home that afternoon. I could not beleive the attitude of the ranger in my area, actually im quite sure my mum wrote a letter to the councill after that .
  9. Thanks for the continued responses everyone!! Great work What a lovely picture Hetzer
  10. Thanks so much for all the great info guys, its really good, I love the beautiful stories about dogs and their owners . Tarope, I didnt realise that the rodesian ridgeback had a similar temperament to the Doberman, thats really interesting
  11. thanks so much for all the information guys Im so sorry jules1 that you lost your first Dobie at only 4 years.....very very sad. I only met my first Dobie today and I was sooooo impressed with his beautiful temperament, I kinda fell in love and wanted to take that Dobie home... So just wanting to know what they were like all round (in case this lovley boy was a fluke...but it seems like there are lots of Dobies like him ) Thanks again!!!
  12. Thanks Bisart Dobes for your insight on the Doberman breed . They sound like beautiful dogs!
  13. Hi all , Just wondering if anyone has had experience with one or both of these breeds and could tell me what the major differences between them are? (not apperance, but temperament wise)? How much exercise do they both need? Are Dobermans more velcro dogs? Can they both be family dogs? I met the most wonderful doberman today, so well trained with an excellent nature and he reminded me of a German Shepherd I used to know so, that got me wondering about the general differences between the breed temperaments... Thanks in advance
  14. Thanks so much guys for all the support! . Jed, I tried doing the 'uh' noise when out walking and he responded quite well which was excellent, as i didnt want to use his name for reprimanding him, so thats awesome And your right, I would love to see his owner being able to stroll with him one day, its hard to see it now but with hard work it will happen! Yay! PS. What a beautiful picture you posted! Lovely boxer ;) !
  15. Well Done!!!! You give all of us who have dog aggressive dogs hope!!! :D
  16. He is desexed :D , and yes the three walks a week was not very good at all, hence me taking him everyday so he can get all that energy out, which he really really needs :D . We just took him down the dog park which is usually empty, but there were at least 10 dogs there today so he got to have a nice play with some dogs bigger than him (we dont let him play with the little ones as he is too rough). He was dominant when we first got there but then an entire male Viszla turned up and put him in his place and he then played nicley with everyone . Have been trying some of the suggestions and he seems to be realising that I want him to do something other than pull on the lead, which is a good start :D . Thanks guys! PS. He isnt my dog just so everyone knows, he is my next door neighbours dog, but the woman cant manage him on walks, so we offered to take him . If he was my dog we def would have trained him as a puppy.
  17. I am using a check chain for this big guy as myself and his owner agree that a dog of his size and at his level of training needs one to be somewhat controllable :D However, the lady who come and walks him 3 times a week does not 'believe in' check chains so she walks him on a harness and lets him do whatever he wants.....so we are now trying to undo this and get him to walk nicely :D . Thanks for the opinions and tips everyone
  18. hi persephone , No he is not my dog, he lives next door and we take him out for runs and walks becuase his owner is elderly and can't take him out all the time. She does however have a regular dog walker come and walk all her dogs 3 times a week. Also thanks Jettyjet for your suggestion too!
  19. Thanks guys, very helpful! . Am seeing the big guy today so will try your sugestions, its going to be hard and frustrating at times, but will be worth it in the end!
  20. Thank you sooooo much for your help guys, it is so great that i actually have some personal experience and techniques that work to try. Its actually really nice to know that other people have been through the same thing and have come out the other side with a well trained dog . We are going to see him today so will put into practice these techniques. Thank you I am looking forwards to training him!
  21. Hello everybody This is also posted in the training section but I havent got any replies yet so I thought I would post it here 2........ I need some advice on how to get a 7 month old boxer pup to walk nicly on the lead. He is massive for 7 months and really strong. He is just so excited when he is out on walks and pulls constantly and zig zags in front of you when walking. He also lunges at other dogs when walking past them in a playful fasion but it is scary for the other dogs. He is a truely beautiful and lovely natured boy, but just needs some leash training. Thanks!

  23. What great stories everyone, I feel a little teary reading about all the beautiful doggies and how they got great homes . Evolving, can I ask what breed your little puppy Echo is?
  24. hi , My sisters 3 year old dog does the same thing. She has a spray bottle of lemon juice mixed with water (just the lemon juice that you get in the bottles from the shops), and every time her dog barks she sprays the dog in his mouth with the lemon jiuce. He hates the taste and since she has started doing this he barks alot less. The only thing with this method is that you have to be there while he is barking so you can catch him in the act. Good luck!
