Thank you for your suggestions, hopefully his tummy will start to feel better soon with the bland foods ETA: do you think maybe some natural yoghurt would be good or some metamucil for fibre to firm the poos up? Or just stick to the bland foods?

Hi all, Just after some DOL wisdom. Here is the situation: 11 week old puppy had had runny poos/diareah (sp?) since Monday night. Was thinking it was due to too many treats at puppy preschool. He is still playful and is eating all his dinner, so he is a normal puppy except for the runny poo. Rang the vets and they said to just feed him chicken and rice over the weekend and see how he goes and if no improvement bring him in on Monday. Does anyone know of anything he can have that might help to settle his stomach? Thanks!

Thanks so much for all they replies I rang them both today and had a chat to them about what I wanted. The only thing I'm not sure about is that the dog im wanting to insure had dry skin as a puppy. We went to the vets and they tested him for mites etc and the results came back clear and the vet just recommended some fish oil and sorbeline on the itchy spots. I mentioned this to both companies just to check that he would still be covered for skin problems and both insurance companies said they couldnt know that for sure untill I made a claim for a skin condition if he got one. I find this soooo annoying! They are excluding his skin form the insurance because he had dry skin! Ahhhh! I will get on the net and read through both PDS files and see if I can find why the price is different. Thanks again

Hi all So I have been researching Pet Insurance and have narrowed it down to two choices, Pet Insurance Australia and Prosure So both of these places are run by the same company (Hollard) and offer from what I can tell, the same services for the similar levels of cover. However, Pet Insurance Australia is $9 more expensive per month - for the same thing as far as I can tell. The only thing is Prosure says it covers 'up to' 80% of the vet bill...i'm not sure what this means as they have no excess....so should'nt it pay 80% of all services covered? I will be ringing them tomorrow but would like some opinions or personal experience from fellow DOLers Thanks!

Oh I forgot to ask.... How much is the Black Hawk Kibble? Just wanting to compare with the other brands prices....
-
Thank so much for the replies everyone! I will pass on all the info and then they can sort out with the breeder what they think is best. I have heard alot about the Black Hawk kibble, I think I will look into that for my boys! They wont be getting him home for a few more weeks yet, but when they do I can guarentee theere will be lots of photos...Ridgies are just the most adorable pups!

The pup is a Ridgeback and will be 8 weeks when they get him. From what I understand, they will be feeding the same as the breeder (which im not sure what it is, will have to check), but were just seeing what options there are out there for feeding a growing pup and what others feed their large breed pups and if they liked how the dogs did on the food. So basically just doing their research I think. Hope that makes sense! Thanks!

Hi, A friend needs some opinions on what the best brand of food (kibble) is for a growing large breed pup? It needs to be affordable if possible.... Thanks!

Hi all, I'm looking for some different/out of the ordinary dog collars as I'm sick of the same old ones form the pet supplies stores. I found these MAYA dog collars but they seem to be only sold in the USA, has anyone bought these from Australia or with cheap postage from the USA? http://www.colorpet.com/MAYA-Collection_c_4.html My only specifications are: A soft material (such as cotton) and a clip buckle (not one of the buckles the fasten with the holes.) So what are your favourite collars and where do you get them from? Thanks!

Andisa; he is not currently on medication but has been on and off steriod treatments for most of his life (we understand the risks of these) Kirty; No they havent done anything to the lump yet, they said to keep an eye on it (we check it everyday for any change) Stormie; Thanks for the reasurance I am definaltey hoping that it is just some irritation Scarlet dog; No, they havent found out what the mass is just yet, they told us to monitor it for now. Thanks so much for the relpies every one I went and talked to the vets today and they looked over his history again and said just to monitor him and keep a close eye on any changes. So thats a bit of relief

Yeah, i will give the vets a ring, or i mite just pop in tomorrow and tell them what is happening. Im not sure what other tests they can run? They did the full bloods and everything just a week ago. Is there anything I should ask them to test for? He has had skin cancers cut off last year, now he has the lump in his stomach and now the runny, bloody poos....im just so worried about him cos he is my baby boy Edited to add: Thanks for the relplies :D

Hi all, Im a bit worried about my old boy ted. He was feeling under the weather just two weeks ago and we noticed he was drinking alot of water. So of course we took him to he vets. At the vets they felt his abdomen and he yelped. They also felt a small lump on his beely and said it was a mass on his muscle. They took a urine sample and that ruled out diabeties. They then took all his bloods and a week later, they came back all clear. He is now his happy self again, but im still worried as this afternoon when he pooed on our walk, it was very runny and it had blood in it. I am not sure what to do as they have done every test on him and they came back clear. Am I just worrying about nothing? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have one for my young boy as he has much more energy than my older boy. So if I put a backpack on him it tires him out more, and I can walk them the same distance and satisfy both their energy needs =).

I just rearranged my living room so that a crate will now fit nicely and become a permanent part of the living room furniture...
-
Yes, I agree, a crate is an excellent idea. I will have to find one for him.
