  1. What a pretty spot ;)

I did something which I do not normally do/encourage :) I changed the scenery somewhat , and removed a couple of distractions...

I also tried to bring out a bit more of the colour/detail...

just a 2 minute play , using PICASA

    WOW

Ditto to all Sols questions as well

  2. Why is it that those getting to Tassie don't bitch, but those getting out do?

    LOL typical mainlander answer.

If every single National for every single breed was held in Tasmania the tables would be turned and it would be you who would be bitching about it ;)

Well I live here and I agree with Sway.

Yes we fly dogs in and out and we go by boat to show and to mate bitches. If you want to use the best dogs in the country you have no choice.

I will say it again, it can be done it takes planning and the rule is the rule.

Its quite simple really if you do not like the 1000k rule instead of whinging in here you and Eric could put a motion in writing to the TCA and then drum up a support base to go to the TCA AGM to get it put forward to the ANKC National Meeting.

I will say it again. If you do not like the rules as they are instead of being in here use the energy to get a motion to the TCA and get it listed put forward at the ANKC Conference to be changed or exemption or whatever it is you want. Rally the support and get them to attend the TCA AGM or letters or whatever it takes. If you have the support then it should get through no problems at all.

As for the clubs and not telling exhibitors thats another thing you should perhaps take up with TCA. Clubs cannot notify exhibitors of things they do not know about.

This really is now quite a joke :D

  4. Thanks for all the replys, as it is building a picture as to what is allowed.

Also appears that it is only a morning and night flight to use from both airports, Launceston and Hobart.

Not much of a choice but we must be thankful for those.

We were flying a bitch from Launceston last week and we did all the bookings through Virgin and she had to be at the airport at 12.30pm for a 1.40 flight.

I think it depends on who you book through. We use both dogtainers and Virgin direct to get the best price

  5. Just a short post in regards to the flights from Hobart.

We fly puppies from Hobart to Melbourne age 13 weeks.

The cost with cost of Crate [$85.00] and her weight [$141.00] Total for her flight through "Air Express" was $226.00

Air Express or [Toll] now have 2 flights every day 1 early on a morning [having to have dog there around 4.30 am] and 1 late afternoon early evening [ have dog there around 4.30 pm or on week-ends 3.30 pm]

This was correct as at 29/8/09. Our puppy we sent had she weighed about 2 kilo more the price would have been a lot more, but she was lucky enough to just go under the 20kg. limit. She was 13 week old German Shepherd Puppy.

It was also just a little dearer to buy one of the molded Air Express crates for the $85.00 as to hire one which was all mesh was $60.00. We preferred the molded one as she was protected a lot more from all the noise etc. The guys at Air Express were terrific with her allowing her to have her own blanket & toy in with her in the crate. She flew on a week-end and had to be at the Air Freight Terminal by 3.15 to 3.30 and flew out at 5.30 - 6.00 [i think now], but if they have their quota of dogs then you cannot get on and have to wait for the next one or one that hasn't got its quota.

I don't know if this is the same at Launceston, as we deal with Hobart Airport.

This was our experience and our views only.

    20 kg and 13 weeks OMGoodness. :cry::mad:mad:o:cry:

I hope that included the crate

Adult GSD female 5 years 59 cm and 26.2 kg Own crate Launceston to Melbourne $125.00

Adult Weimaraner female 3 yrs, 26kg Hobart - Melbourne $187.00 (owner supplied crate)

  6. Would somebody please advise this topic if this correct.

This only applies to Launceston airport.

One flight in of a morning and night.

One flight out of a morning and night.

Of these flights which can take dogs and up to what size?.

Rule out Tiger as they do not carry dogs.

Have flown dogs in and out of Launceston every day of the week at varying times the only restrictions on times is at weekends to the best of my knowledge.
  7. I know there is many many topics like this but I have a friend who is trawlling the Harvey Normans, Teds and such for a Canon camera. The prices compared to the online shops is quite staggering. I would expect she wants a good Aussie warranty, no grey imports and such. So for the inexperienced could I get a brief comment on what shops are good reliable and offer good backup service. Is there a difference btn manufacturers warranties and those offered as Aussie warranties?

Even my bestie is snubbing Nikon sniff sniff...

redangel I am new to all this but I can share my experience with regard my new camera. My family bought me a Canon 450D with twin lens kit from Harvey Norman. Extended warranty, memory card 4gb sandisk extreme sdhc, a camera bag/pouch type carrier and 2 Hoya UV filters for just over $1400.00 but I had also been savng for a while so all in all I think with all it came with including the extra warranty it was not a bad buy. Here in Launceston Tas its the lack of choice thats frustrating. We have Harvey Norman, Stallards and a small Kodak shop. We are lucky here at our local Harvey Norman we have two people in the camera section who are photography savvy so thats a help and they were very good. Extra accessories there are quite expensive.

The original warranty was 12 months and we got the extension that runs for another 36 months. They send them away to be fixed I think and I have heard it can take while to get them back

Am much wiser since coming in here and learning heaps. I think my new lenses will be from DWI (digital world international) with the mack warranty and my Lowepro Bag I saved for and bought on Ebay (they are just so over the top price wise here)

  8. I'd love to know the cost comparison of travelling with GSD's to Melbourne from Tas or Darwin.

I know what it costs me to travel with dogs.

One GSD female and her owner from Launceston to Melbourne one way was 195.00 (125.00 for the bitch) and a cheaper air fair coming back its was 178.00. Can only fly Virgin out of Launceston and they have limited flights weekends as the freight section is now Toll and they do not open as aften as they did.

Flying out of Hobart is not so hard friends of ours took 3 to Sydney Royal all on the same flight and all three cam back on the same flight. You have Qantas and Virgin at the southern end.

  9. I have the following

    Canon 450D

    Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS

    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS

    Sandisk Extreme SDHC Card - 2 x 4GB and 3 x 8GB

Both have UV filters and I also have a coupld of polaroid filters a friend gave me as she does not use them.

About to purchase a Lowepro Versapack 200 AW (Friday)

Wish list - Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM and Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro USM

    Edited to add the fliters

  10. Here are a couple of shots from the roller derby where I managed to capture the moment.

I love the looks on the faces in the crowd as the girls hit the floor when they stacked it spectacularly:

This girl stacked it right in front of where I was sitting:

    Really like this one
  11. I am sorry but if you live in Tassie and wish to travel to the mainland with dogs, with a little planning you can successfully exhibit dogs on the mainland, which many of us do..............plan and budget for it.

Just a little sick of hearing `oh I live in Tassie it is so hard.....'

    Budget for it......on a pension :)

Well yes, from puppy money and the other things that some do to earn extra on the side, like dog bathing and grooming.

Yes things can be hard on limited income but it can be done.

  12. Yes your quite right Tasmania is at a disadvantage, as the only way you can get off the Island is by sea or air.

Their are many people that are disadvantaged because of limited income and the cost to get off.

It's just not like putting petrol in the car and driving there. As we all know petrol is expensive enough and get getting any cheaper.

I believe Tasmania should be exempt from this rule.

Also many people who show dogs are getting older and may find themselves in the same situation in a few years.

Well I don't think it should be exempt. These big events come but once a year for GSDs and like most on limited incomes we save to go to these things. We are no different to other states like WA.
