  1. Do her dogs get out a lot? This doesn't sound right??? My neighbors undexed male dog gets out every week...he gets taken to the pound so regularly that he has his own shelter Id disc. It would be great if the council de-sexed dogs before returning them (except people who are legit registered breeders) this would help to solve two major problems... 1) backyard breeding more cross breeds & unwanted dogs 2) people would be more diligent in insuring their dogs didn't escape.

  5. As Anne said earlier on, I find it quite offensive that you say I am living in 'laalaa land'. I am as aware as anyone else on here of what happens. And how dare you say I am ignorant? I know EXACTLY what happens in the 'real world', I'm a journalist for Christ's sake. I see it all. And, personally, I think you have absolutely NO right to 'pull others up' when they act without facts or emotion, and should I note that I am not 'acting' in any way, shape or form? I am simply expressing my opinion which is different to yours. Grow up. Not everyone has the same opinions as you, and not everyone will agree with you. And THAT IS OK!!!!! People are allowed to have 'bleeding hearts'. And what bull... real world things get screwed up by people living in lala land. What an absolute crock. I think things get screwed up by IGNORANT and IRRESPONSIBLE people, who are UNWILLING to learn more about a subject. Before I do things, I research. However when I have an opinion i would LIKE TO express it freely without being cut down and frankly, INSULTED, by others who have no clue about their experiences, profession and anything else that might be of ANY knowledge to them. Why don't you try and NOT 'pull people up' (I absolutely CANNOT believe you said that...) and actually LET them express their opinions. You don't have to agree with them (I sure as hell don't agree with some of the stuff you say) but you can RESPECT their opinions and their BLEEDING HEARTS and move the eff on. Gosh. Well said...Just because it is the 'real world' doesnt make it right or fair. Sometimes a bleeding heart is far better than a heart made of stone. I question if this university actually gets its dogs from pounds and if they only use the dogs that are unsuitable for re-homing??? I know I personally could never practise on any animal...I find the loss of any life very upsetting... I condem BYB, puppy farms and pet shops selling pets and cant understand why something cant be put into place to stop them...
  6. Some people are so irresponsible...It amazes me how they could be so calm about losing their puppy. If any of my pets went missing I would be a mess until I found them. There is so many things that could happen to them and not knowing they were safe would be terrible. I have saved so many stray & lost animals and it amazes me how people can be so 'oh whatever' when their pet gets returned. What amazes me more is when the same pet keeps getting out and the owner does nothing about it.
  7. This article is from SMH...I was so upset to read this and wish we could all could do something to stop this terrible waste. What do you think??? MELBOURNE University is using healthy dogs - some of them pregnant - for student vet operations, then killing the animals. The dogs are anaesthetised before students carry out surgical procedures, then put down before they are likely to regain consciousness. A student who did not want to be named said she had been given a bitch carrying seven unborn pups for surgery practice. She said other students had been given two-month-old pups. The university and its practices on dogs were dubbed "inhumane" by RSPCA Australia president Hugh Wirth . Dr Wirth yesterday urged an end to the practice at the Faculty of Veterinary Science on the Werribee campus. Every year, dozens of dogs are taken out of the faculty's special "dog colony" - a row of cages - for student operations. Former student Lisa Elsner said: "Most dogs were absolutely petrified - so scared that the students couldn't walk them on a lead through the door of the hospital. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. .End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. "Some would lie close to the ground shaking all over, so in the end many had to be carried in." Dr Elsner, now a qualified vet, said she refused to operate on animals that were to be put down. Several other students claimed laboratories were often under-supervised -- leaving baffled trainees to leaf through text books as they operated. Dean of Veterinary Science Prof Ken Hinchcliff confirmed the surgery practice, but said it was common. "We use both dead and live animals in the instruction of veterinary students," he said. "Use of live animals is a small but vital part of our surgery teaching program before clinical training. "Dogs used in surgical teaching are anaesthetised before any surgical procedures are performed and are euthanised before awakening. "All animals are treated with the utmost care and compassion. All procedures, sourcing, and housing of animals ultimately used for teaching is with the approval of the Animal Ethics Committee of the University of Melbourne." Prof Hinchcliff refused to reveal where the dogs came from, saying only they were "donated". An RSPCA spokesman said the society believed the university advertised for unwanted pets and former farm and breeding dogs. Greyhound Victoria admitted it provided dogs to the university. Dr Wirth said the use of the dogs was a waste of life. "We don't support any operations on live dogs by students," he said. "And we don't think that because a vet student has desexed one or two (dogs or cats) during their studies that it makes them a better vet."
  8. I'd be worried it could be a scam?? Would be sad if it is... Lots of similar adverts for horses too but want people to pay for transport & desexing thro paypal.
  9. Try gumtree...if there isn't any listed put up a wanted advert. It's amazing how many people have them lying around and are happy to sell them.
  10. I came across this on YouTube and laughed so much I thought I'd share it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can relate...if only they could do one for dog rescue. Hope it brightens your day...enjoy Check out this video on YouTube:
  11. Can you both PM me your email address and I can forward some more information and examples to you. Thanks x

  13. We run a not for profit rescue group for Shar Pei (rolly dogs) called Shar Pei Rescue Australia. We are hoping to find someone who can help assist us by drawing up an outline for our logo. The outline needs to be very basic because it will be embroidered onto things like t-shirts and jackets etc. We would love both a face and a full profile one. I have some images for you to look at to give you an idea of what we would like, and our website is another great place for you to look www.spra.org.au Because a lot of the dogs we rescue are adults we don’t get ubber rolly puppies in often, so it’s important that our logo is still rolly but not too rolly. We would really love to have our logo done asap, so we can start promoting our group more. We can afford to pay a small fee (if required) but don’t have hundreds of dollars. Hope you can still help us. Please either email us at [email protected] or pm me with your details etc.

  16. I brought a wonderful invention called a backseat buddy. They also stop your dogs from falling on the floor when you brake. Because they are really padded it stops scratches from the dogs nails. They are excellent quality and last forever, I highly recommend them. I also purchased a $12 cheapy from Reject shop for the other car but it isnt as good and fell apart within months. Backseat Buddy can be purchased online - Just do a google search
  17. Unbelievable Megan...Goes to show you that if they are determined, they will get in anyway. Must have been small burglars...I can hardly fit in my large one. I figure if the burglars wont to jump three 6ft plus fences, wrestle four crazy dogs and then squeeze through my doggy door - then goodluck to them
  18. I have one...They are FANTASTIC!!! Having up to four large dogs going in and out whenever they please, the other ones fell apart within a few months. My Pig in Mud one has last over a year and is still going strong...Well worth paying the extra money. I ordered mine directly off their website.
  19. I put a middle of the range fake grass in my backyard, and my dogs managed to pull it to pieces. They scratched at the sides and then pulled it up and chewed it. When it rains the water just sits on top of the grass in big puddles. I also found that after a while it started to smell like pee.
  20. I got my Peter Alexander Dogologue today. It looks amazing! Well Done to all puppies that appear. Very, Very cute. Love the Jake the Shar Pei ... Great to see this breed used.

  22. Try buying him a pee post, this encourages them to cock their leg and pee in the one place.
  23. Have you tried grinding up the meaty bones first? That way there wont be big chunks of bone to swallow. For smaller dogs chicken necks or wings are fantastic. If your dog doesn't chew them properly try grinding them up too. I always recommend that when feeding bones that the caregivers are present, just incase. Better safe than sorry. No i haven't, how do you do that or do you have to ask the butcher to do it? I always supervise bone eating, but because she bites and swallows so quickly it is pretty hard to catch her in the act! she is a lab so chicken necks and wings are not suitable. You can buy a manual meat grinder or a fancy electric one from most cooking utensil shops. I highly recommend these to owners who are introducing or have issues feeding bones. By grinding up the bones first you ensure that there is not chunks to cause issues while ensuring that they still benefit from eating raw meaty bones. Being a lab shouldn't make any difference to eating chicken wings or necks, however if she inhales her food like some Labs do, for piece of mind grind them well first. I have all my small & large dogs on chicken necks & wings and personally have never had any issues.
  24. I was just about to write a few paragraphs but agree 100% with Danois. Well said
