  1. 5 more sleeps to go!!! yooooohooooo :happydance:
  2. Do you have any references to back up these statements? As others have said, what about the breeds that are small in numbers? What about remote locations? I live in Darwin and I show Great Danes. The cost and logistics of me getting to a Specialty Show with my dogs would be huge. There are quite a few people here (including myself)who have what you would call Petrol Champions. These Champions may not have ever been to a specialty show, but have been under enough judges who have signed their name to the statement "I am clearly of the opinion that this exhibit is of such outstanding merit as to be worthy to qualify for the title of "Australian Champion"". Well said Meg!!! I also live in Darwin and show my "Petrol Champions" I find that quite insulting actually :mad Like many have said that the judge signs the challenge on the day stating that they find this dog or bitch to be eligible for a champion blah blah blah and yes there probably should be a few more challenges withheld but like Meg said we live in a remote place where we get approx. 1 show every month, we don't have the luxury of shows every weekend in different locations to be able to pick and chose judges to judge under, we get what we get. Besides which we show because we enjoy doing it and if you get a challenge than that is just a bonus
  3. Yes pleease can we have results!!! I am sad too I didn't get to go  Good luck to all competing and just have fun
  4. Cav BIS Griff RUBIS Peke baby sorry not much more usefull than that im sure someone will supply names etc later Cav Dellcara's import Ch. Miletree Eclipse(IMPUK) JJ to his friends. Griff Ch.Statuesque Pumpernickel I think Ch. Miletree Eclipse (IMP UK)actually belongs to Caribelle Kennels
  5. Thank you to everybody who has replied. Your comments have been most helpful. As I have waited for this girl for about 8-9 months it is hard to contemplate sending her back. The breeder did offer me this but like alot of you cav breeders have said their mouths can and will change dramatically as they grow, and I know that. I am going to run her on in the ring as she needs the experience and then assess her at 6 months old. Yes alot of nail biting going on here!!! :( My vet came around to have a look and she told me it is "just" undershot, not out by much. That gives me a glimmer of hope It is just a waiting game now.
  6. I have just recieved my cavalier puppy that I have been waiting for for about 9 months!!! She is 12 weeks old and She is lovely but the next day after getting her I realised her bite is slightly undershot. I realise as they are growing and developing that their skulls and mouths can change. This is not my first cavalier and she was supposed to be for showing. My question is, do you think her bite will go to scissor bite?? I contacted the breeder straight away and they said they had checked her bite only the week before and they were really happy with it, that it was good. They didn't check it just before she was flown out and they were very sorry. They also told me that a bite in a cavalier can take up to 2 years or more to correct itself. Is this correct?? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Like DarwinRoyal said, we only have very small shows up here and they are few and far between. We don't have the luxury of the picking and choosing which shows we attend. Sometimes we only get 1 show a month so for me I enter all shows up here unless there is something wrong with my dogs. Like many other people have said the grooming time and effort which goes into some breeds, i have Cavaliers so it takes alot to get them ready We had a judge a little while ago that wasn't particular great but I will show again underneath them, IMO these judges only push you to become a better handler. I am a fairly new exhibitor so any show that I can enter gives me more experience and at the end of the day we should be showing because we enjoy it and the dogs love not just to win. The dogs that consistently win are obviously worthy of it, if they are being put up show after show by different judges then what does that tell you!!
  8. Cool Although I've actually got to win first  Yep, first show for May.
  9. Is that our show up here Mel??? If so you're right, it is super exciting :cheer:
  10. Can someone please give me a link for these leads. I've tried googling it but i can't find it. Thank you
  11. Hi I got my Paracord from Ebay in the US as well. It's not that expensive, you would probably pay the same amount here for the total anyway. I have tried getting it in Aust but with no success. I used a store called Majestic Dreams and you can buy 50 ft or 100 ft. The postage is a bit much but like i said would probably be around the same amount. Beads i also got from Ebay. Last time i looked i just put in Beads to fit pandora and most of them come from China. If you can stand the wait usually 2 or so weeks then they are worth it. They do tarnish after a while but i am still using my leads that i made about 9 months ago and so far so good. i had a lead sent to me that was made in Aust and they paid about $60 for it and it looked really bad, really tarnished and crystal fallen off, so i just changed the beads and it was good to go I tend to use the crystal and glass beads only because that is what i like, but when i started using them i had several people comment on them and even sold about 10 of them to people at the shows i attend. But be warned they are addictive I think i have made just about one in every colour and so many to chose from
  12. Hi Bel Non Sporting started at catalogue no. 26 and finished on 38. Cheers
  13. My daughter Amber also received her's today for Junior Handler of her age class 10 - 13 years. She was absolutely stoked. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts :D Amber is not a very confident person and lacks alot of self asteem so this just made her day and gave her just that little bit of confidence. Once again a very BIG Thank you
  14. This sounds great, I might be there. Good on you for getting this together. Hopefully you can help me out with my boy on the table and perhaps bring the show stackers. At least I won't get picked on by you for suggesting such a thing. God forbid me for being so cruel :D
  15. There is a Cavalier thread in general you might want to pop in to. It's in the breed subforum. We do need pics though Royal Canin is good. I don't feed the breed specific one cause it doesn't come in big bags. Eagle Pack is good too. I prefer the Holistic range. There is a chicken one that is suited to small breeds adult and puppy. Don't know about helping with the cat, I'm afraid. Hi Gretel, Royal Canin do make Breed Specific in 7.5 kg bags. I am not sure where you live but I live the NT and can only get it a pet shop called Pets Village. I have tried to get Petbarn to stock it but they won't I feed 4 dogs on this and that is all they get. I don't feed any wet kind of food with this as this should be all they need and a 7.5 kg bag lasts me about 4-5 weeks. I do supplement them 1-2 times a week with chicken necks though The Royal Canin breed specific is for dogs from 10 months of age so probably a good idea to have your puppy on a puppy food from Royal Canin and slowly introduce the new food when he is old enuf
  16. Hi BS, I have a tri color bitch which had pigmentation on her nose until she was over 12 months old!! She is now 3 and has a completely back nose. I think if they have alot of pigmentation on their nose then maybe some of it might not change to black, but i haven't seen one yet!!! I showed her with the pigmentation and that didn't change the judges decision in giving her challenges. The pigmentation is not desired and is a minor fault. I don' think the bowl thing has anything to do with the colour changing, but IMO I wouldn't use a plastic bowl as I have heard that the toxins in plastic can leach out and has been associated with some skin conditions, so I only use metal for my princes and princesses!!! Good luck with your hunt, once you have one, you will soon be looking for more, they are very addictive
  17. THis whole situation is very sad and unfortunate for all involved. I do feel tho that once a dog has bitten once there is a very high possibility it will do it again ufortunately. We used to own a bullmastiff x and he was a lovely boy and we have two young children. Our next door neighbours who are no longer there thank god, owned bull arab pigging dogs and IMO didn't get out of the yard enuf to curb their hunger for pigging and not to mention that many big dogs in a suburban yard should not be allowed. They went away for their honeymoon and didn't tell us and one morning at about 1am I was awoken to aggressive barking and yelping. When I went outside they had ripped thru our 6 foot chainmesh fence to get to our dog and the 2 bigger dogs had him either side of his face both pulling on his ears as they would do a pig!!! It was a horrible experience, my husband wasn't at home he was on nightshift and my other neighbour across the road had to jump over the fence into my yard and try and pull them off of him. In turn he got bitten on the leg by one of the dogs. The smaller dog of the 3 went back thru the hole they had made but the other 2 wouldn't leave the yard and they were going around peeing on everything. In turn I had to call my husband to come home and the police to get them off my property. I had to put my injured dog inside. The police came and were fairly useless as they couldn't catch them at all. They even used their pepper sprays to try and subdue them but that didn't work. After a while they got tired so I walked up to them and put an choker chain on them. The neighbours mother had to be called because they were away, and she was none to happy to have to come out at 3am in the morning!!! She was just going to put the dogs back into the yard and I pretty much yelled at her (well it was 3am in the morning and my dog had just been ripped apart!!!) I told her those dogs were not going back to the yard until they have come home. The police took the dogs away. We fixed the fence as I know what our neighbours were like and knew they wouldn't fix the fence sufficiently enuf. I had to take the next day off work, take the dog to the vets, which in his report wrote that it was an extremely vicious attack, which had nearly severed one of his ears in half. He also had puncture wounds all over the front of his body. He had to have a drain in the side of his head also. He wasn't a happy dog at all. When the neighbours came home they did say they were sorry and would pay for his vet bill. That alone took them over 12 months to pay us back!!!! The council contacted me the day after the attack to make my statement. They asked me what I would like to happen. I said I would like to have to 2 bigger dogs destroyed as they are vicious and our 2 kids can't even play in our front yard without having the dogs next door attack the fence whenever they got close to it. In return they had their license to keep more than 2 dogs TEMPORARILY suspended until they did further investigations. They were made to remove 1 of the dogs, they removed the smaller one which wasn't aggressive!!! They relocated the smaller one to a friends property and a wild dog got into the property and killed it!!! That was very sad as he wasn't the problem at all!! Anyway the council granted their license back, and they purchased another dog to replace the one they lost!!! They even had the hyde to ask us to write to the council while the investigation was going on and ask for their license to be given back!!! I don't understand how stupid some people can be!!! Anyway after the attack our poor dog was never the same and one day our son who was a little too rough with him got a bit of a warning bite to his forehead from our dog and we didn't want to take the chance and keep him so we rehomed him to a lovely couple who lived on 5 acres with no children. Last I heard he was enjoying life. Our neighbours have sinced moved out YAY!!! and have moved rurally and now their poor new neighbours have the same problem as we did, not surprising. He bred from his dogs and kept some of them and now even his wife who is expecting their 2nd child any day is becoming increasing aware that the dogs they own are nasty. It can happen to any breed, not just big breeds. We have cavaliers and they even get a little snappy when they don't want to be disturbed. It is just that bigger breeds have bigger mouths!!! I just want to add that we are waiting for a new puppy from a litter expected in March and it is a BULLMASTIFF from a very lovely lady in Qld. We are sooo excited and can't wait!!! Yes I think the owner of this dog in question was irresponsible in leaving him tied up out the front of a shopping centre, but some of the responsibility should also lie with the childs parents. They should be watching their child a little more closely and it is all about education, education, education!!!!!
  18. Well Paptacular you couldn't tell your boy is 7 years old!!! And he has beaten my boy on a few occasions for neuter in group, so well done
  19. Not necessarily true that alot of Neuters are old. My boy is only 20 months old and had to be desexed at the age of 12 months old due to only one testi dropping  I have been showing him in the neuter class since July last year and has done reasonably well with numerous Neuter in groups and is almost at his neuter title. However in saying that I have had numerous judges not ask to see their bite and not even wanting to know his age So therefore it would really confirm that the standard is lowered compared to an entire dog. I have never had a judge not ask for the bite and age of my entire boy!!!!
  20. Nah not much... a slip here n there.. i made it fun for them use lots of bait lol.. after a while they got the hang of it Thanks Teamsnag. Your babies are sooo gorgeous!!! I think you and Megz have just confirmed my thoughts and I will definately be looking at getting some. Thanks to you both for your input
  21. OMG They are sooo cute. And did your puppies fall off of them too much??
  22. I'm aware of that Megz. However there's a difference between encouraging correct position and encouraging stability. I think one needs to be worked on before the other. Has the dog been seen by a chiropractor. Fidgety dogs can sometimes be experiencing discomfort holding correct position. Worth a check I reckon. Poodlefan, he holds correct position on the ground almost everytime, but for some reason he doesn't on the table. I have tried lots of different ways to get him to stand on the table and none really with much success so far. I would of thought that with the correct positioning, correct stability with come along with it. How would you suggest I encourage correct stability???
  23. Thanks Megz, I will chat to you at the next show. Hopefully you have them by then and have had a chance to use them so you can tell me whether or not they are worth it. I think they will be.
  24. As soon as I put him on the table he generally sits down as I am trying to stack him. He already has a lovely stack, I just thought maybe if I trained him on the stackers he wouldn't be able to sit down!!!! If he sits down on the stackers he will fall, therefore after a couple of times on the stackers he would learn to stand up and once you get him standing nice and still on the stackers in theory he should stand on the table no worries Wouldn't it be easier to teach him a 'stand' cue? There's more positive ways of getting a stand than making a dog fall. Teach him 'stand' on the ground then add the table! He stands very nicely on the ground already. It's not like he would fall metres to the ground as I would be standing there with him, it would be more like just slipping off the stacker. I do appreciate your comments but i feel like you are critising me and making out that it would be cruel for me to use the stackers. :p
