  1. Alaska is just devine But Bailey is certainly a gorgeous hunk of dog
  2. Yes, I agree, JM. It's been there as long as the BSL laws were brought in. But not many people know that the Qld councils can legally introduce any laws they like, about restricting any breeds they like. They think the only breeds that can be restricted are the 5 or so named in the State law. Ah , I see now mita
  3. Mita it has been this way for quite some time now. There are quite a few different breeds of dogs banned from certain Council Shires.
  4. Easy to lay blame when it was Geoff Irwins who handed the submission in stating the amstaff is a Pit bull at the last minute. What was his comment in court, oh yeah we made a mistakes 6 years ago, and forgot to add the Amstaff. Sheer Malice tybrax It's a terrible result. But one that every breed knowlegable individual knew was a distinct possibility. There is no escaping the fact the AST & the APBT are the same breed. Being in denial doesn't help. In fact it has just exaggerated the situation. There are so many people out there with dogs they were told were not APBTs They are now faced with a raft of possibilities, all of them bad. I have just had a pool installed & the contractor was telling me about his AST. I ask him the obvious questions..." "Did you buy him from a registered breeder" "Yes" "did you get the ANKC registration papers?" "No, we don't want to show him" "First thing you do when you get home is contact the breeder & arrange for the papers to be forwarded, without them if there is any bother your dog will be classed as a pit bull. ANKC rego papers with the matching micro chip number will be accepted as proof of breed & could just save his life & you a lot of grief" "But he is an Amstaff, not a pit bull" '" Same breed" 'They told me it isn't" "They lied" Now it may not matter anymore. It would have been better for all concerned if the people had of just moved south to Australia. Cheaper too. How much do you reckon the court costs will be? A mill maybe? ;)
  5. The ruling was that Tango is a Pitbull NOT that a Pitbull and Amstaff is the same breed. No. The ruling was the APBT and the Amstaff are one in the same dog. Therefor Tango, though proven to be an Amstaff,is still an APBT and held accountable under the BSL regulations.
  6. So the supreme caser was won, what does that mean for BSL ? Is it going to go away now ? Would like to read this answer also.
  7. The out come of this case may well change that. There is a massive difference between condemning a breed like the APBT that has never been ANKC recognised than a breed that is already established, law suits flying all over the place Criminilising established recognised breeds will never happen...........too much fallout to contend with. There is NO difference between condeming APBT and ANKC registered breeds. Some ANKC breeds are banned or restricted in Queensland already, and I have no doubt that those bans will spread to other states, at the whim of various councils. Registered Amstaffs are completely banned from Toowoomba, and have been since the instigation of the bans. Unregistered dogs are totally at risk, or those dogs whose papers cannot be found. People only have the right to own and breed AST UNTIL councils add the breed to their banned lists, or until government adds them to the imports banned. Council bans of a ANKC breeds has happened, and it will continue to happen. Don't fool yourself that ANKC registration is some magic incantation which will save a breed. It wont. It hasn't. Eventually, ALL AST will be added to banned lists, as will staffies. MANY FCI breeds, including GSDs are restricted breeds in Germany, last I heard. And I don't think anything has changed. People support BSL because it's not their breed, and those horrible pitbulls should be banned anyhow. When it's their breed, they wont be so happy. I have no idea why people think the bans will only ever apply to pitbulls. It was plain from the beginning, and from what has happened overseas (where many FCI breeds are banned in various places, and not "fighting" breeds either) that breeds would be added to the bans as time passed. I think it was discussed and forecast on this forum years ago. Consider the Scottish Fold Cat. A valid, registered breed. Now banned from breeding in Victoria - with the stoke of a pen. Yep, it's a cat, not a dog, but what's the difference? None What a great post!
  8. Absolutely not true... recognised breeds are banned or restricted in several places, all over the world. Undeniabley Zayda. Longcoat you seem to dwell in a very simplistic world.
