  1. Those pictures are so gorgeous rexiam & becandcharch! I wish mine would do that.
  2. I furminate for about 5-10 mins at a time, a couple of times a week. I love my furminator! My dog has always hated being brushed, but will happily stand there for a good furmination!
  3. Did they snuggle from the time that you got Emmy, or did it take a while?
  4. This is just out of general curiosity. My dog and puppy never snuggle up together, so I was just wondering how many people's dogs do.
  5. How long before a car ride do you need to give the ginger tablet for it to work? My puppy hates the car, I think its because it makes him feel sick (he has thrown up on a few occasions). Edited to add: I just noticed that Poodlefan said 15 mins for the gingernut biscuits, so I guess that is my answer for the tablets as well!
  6. Oscar hadn't had an accident in the house for weeks, so I was thinking that he was toilet trained. But.... he did a big wee on the carpet last night . Oh well we will get there.
  7. Thanks everyone for the advice! I didn't see any pieces in the vomit, but then again it was dark. It was the Purina Allwormer tablets. I usually use drontal, but my mum had some of the purina ones already, so I just used those. He is currently on a monthly worming routine.
  8. I gave Oscar his worming tablet today. He then vomitted about 3 hrs later due to car sickness. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to be absorbed? I'm worried that the tablet might have come back up. It was a flavoured tablet and I am pretty sure it got chewed a little bit before he swallowed it, if that helps...

    Pup Chewing

I am having the exact same problem with my Oscar (16wk GR)! I never feel like I can leave him outside unsupervised because he finds all sorts of things to chew on. We have a large yard with lots of different gardens and lots of bush (so its almost impossible to avoid having sticks aound). We have blocked of some of the garden that seemed to have a lot of rocks in it, but he still manages to dig things up. It is a constant worry! I would love to be able to leave him outside and not worry, but I can't. Never had this problem when my other dog was a puppy. She ate food and that was it! Sorry Lablove, I am no help to you, but I am hoping that the replies you get will help me out also :p
  10. I love reading all of your Elbie updates Congratulations on all of your success with him! He is so lucky to have such dedicated owners
  11. I bought Valuheart monthly tablets. I think they were about $16 for 6 months worth.
  12. Yes, definately let us know how saturday goes! I'm interested
  13. Maybe in future it would be better for your daughter to use a food lure to move him, rather than physically removing him. It could very well be that he associates pain with her picking him up. I'm sorry that you are going through this. It must be very hard, especially for your daughter. My puppy has started to really dislike being picked up (I won't be able to for much longer because he is getting too big!), so I have started just pretending to pick him up but then give him a treat instead. I hope that will stop him from freaking out when I go to lift him.
  14. Advocate controls fleas, heartworm and gastrointestinal worms (but not tapeworm).
  15. Can I ask if your girls have been involved in training him at all? If not then I would definately suggest that you take them along to puppy preschool with you and involve them. I got my first puppy when I was 13 with the conditions that I feed and train it. My mum made me go to puppy preschool and then obedience classes. I am so grateful for that! I learned so much by having that responsibilty. It also meant that I was top dog and not just "the kid". If you involve your girls in training the puppy then I am sure that their relationship with him will improve! I also agree that having him sleep on the couch in not a good habit to let him get into. My puppy gets told "down!" even if his front feet touch the lounge. One day we will allow him up, but even then it will only be by invitation. Good luck with everything!
  16. Looks interesting. I will definately give it a go! Thanks for that
  17. Oscar, my 15 week old GR puppy, gets extremely excited when it comes to his dinner time. He starts bouncing around like crazy and jumping up. My main concern about this is that it is not good for his joints! I also want to encourage a settled behaviour. He usually does a very good "drop". But as soon as I have his bowl he doesn't listen anymore. I was hoping that if I could get him to "drop" then it would help him focus and settle. No luck! He wouldn't even do it with the use of a lure. He will sit and wait when I put the bowl down in front of him (he has been made to do that since day 1, so I think it is habit now). The problem is when I am getting his dinner ready in the kitchen and then taking it to the laundry to give to him. I also tried to get him to drop and wait for his food, instead of just a sit, but he just wouldn't do that either. Am I expecting too much of him? How do I get him to stop jumping around like a maniac if he won't listen to me? I hope this makes sense to people. I tend to ramble...
  18. Thanks everyone for your replies Much appreciated!
  19. All is fine . It just gave me a bit of a fright at the time! I couldn't contact hubby to talk to and get it off my chest, so I spoke on here instead! :D
  20. Panic attack! I thought that we had gotten rid of all the azalea plants in the garden but Oscar just found one and pulled it out. I spent ages trying to get it off him before he could eat any. Once I got it I was in a panic because I didn't know if he had ingested any. I got him to throw up thank goodness. I could only see half a leaf in his vomit, so I hope that is all that he had. I read on the net that even jsut a couple of leaves could cause serious problems. I hope that I don't have to worry now..... Gosh I feel sick
  21. I just noticed that Proplan actually has Vitamin C listed in the ingredients. Should I not worry about adding any extra to his diet then?
  22. Ok, so I ended up going with the Proplan large breed puppy food. The guy at the shop said that it was one of the most popular brands. Our local chemist didn't have any Ester-C, but they did have plain calcium ascorbate powder. Is this the right stuff to use? Is Ester-C pretty much just calcium ascorbate?
