Dogs Victoria - Photo Id Now Required For Membership Renewals
Shaar replied to wayrod's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ahh yes I understand now thanks, yes as long as they follow through I can see how it would help the situation for sure. I'm not in Vic but if it came in here I would have no problem with it. But how would it work for those who live a long distance from the club? I'm pretty sure the only building here is 2 1/2 hours away from me. And also, as someone else noted, for dogs under duel memberships? One of mine is co-owned by someone in another state and any pups would possibly be co-owned as well. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I missed it. -
Wow, didn't realize they had done designer dogs, that's definitely a turn off. They did pretty good with the Crested segment although their 'promo' dog could have been better... guess no show people wanted to participate, I can see why now.

Dogs Victoria - Photo Id Now Required For Membership Renewals

Sounds like a good idea as long as they enforce it. With Sways situation you would think they would at least refuse to give her the papers as she is not the owner, how is photo ID going to change that? Staff will still do the same thing, it's the same as buying cigarettes from the supermarket, it's the LAW to ask for ID but still only about half the staff actually do it. And if it is only for setting up an new membership are they going to check your ID for every little thing you ask about with them? I don't have to show my ID every time I hire a movie. -
When Did That Happen - Facebook On Dol Profile Pages
Shaar replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't want my dog being shared on other peoples pages with the full permission of DOL. Yes, people can cut and paste links, but by having a share or like button it's encouraging people to share other peoples photos, when I have only given DOL permission to have them on their page. My mum found some woman using her dog as her profile picture, she contacted the woman who refused to remove it. She then contacted FB who forcibly removed the photo. By having a 'like' button you cannot ask FB to remove the photo if you do not want it shared in that fashion. There would need to be some heavy disclaimers in place and notification to ALL current owners of a dog on the breed pages in case they choose to remove them. -

Not many people go to the effort of cutting and pasting links from DOL to FB of a particular dog, I personally have never seen anyone do it and I have a lot of show friends on FB. By having a "like" button it's instant and easy... instant and easy is not always a good thing. "Like" buttons or "share" buttons to breed pages, or even to the DOL pointscore pages would be great, but NOT to individual dogs. -
Omg! The Crate Is Massive! Where Do You Keep Yours?
Shaar replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have them on either side of our bed. Just put a board on top and draped a nice bit of fabric over it and it still holds alarm clock, lamp etc. -

Bingo! Terrible idea. -
Perhaps it's a typo, maybe they meant 93 points towards its title? Drop them an e-mail inquiry as to what they mean. ADD - It says must be able to shown so I'm guessing it's not an unrecognized breed.

When our neighbors moved out of the rental over the road the house was empty for about a week. In that time someone stole the big iron gates from the driveway. Another one of my friends had a huge solid concrete water feature in their front yard (one of those ones like a mini pond with a lady in the center). Some yobbo came by in the middle of the night and stole it. It takes 4 strong men to lift this fountain. We have decorative logs that stand upright in our yard, they didn't get stolen, but they did all get pushed over and rolled about... all while we were in bed. The biggest one was right under the bedroom window

Vets keep copies of everything, when my bitch was spayed I never thought to ask for a certificate to confirm it. A few months later dog registrations were due with the local council and I just popped into the vets and they wrote me a letter to take in (our council has cheaper fees for desexed dogs).

Kelpie x BC Batman definitely suits him!

I'm a lover of "most" animals. I would never want to see another animal harmed or mistreated even if I don't particularly like them, but there are some animals that just give me the willies, I would be happy if they were far, far away from me. I can't stand monkeys, I don't know why but they freak me out.

Do Breeders Like To Hear From Their Sold Puppies?
Shaar replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
My boys breeder is usually pretty busy, I e-mail her some photos, then a month or so later I will get a reply back that leaves me wondering "Now what did I send her again?" She loves getting updates, she just looks at them thinks 'I'll have to reply to that one later' then forgets. -
Another good point. My current dogs dam is a non-champion. It's not because she isn't good enough, it's because she wasn't shown. With Chinese Cresteds you must interbreed hairless and powderpuffs... problem is, powderpuffs do MUCH less winning than the hairless, so many breeders just simply do not show them and focus on their hairless dogs.

I'm guessing you are in the same group as me kazwa, it's making a pretty big impact on dodgy sellers.

Here's todays effort... -
Yeah we can't run from the big winners rofl when there is only one show in any one place at a time. i have been to albany am yet to get up to gero as it always falls when hubby is away but i intend to get the dogs out and our big winners go to these shows to so its not like we are going to run away from them. And i agree a true quality type of dog will do well in both all breeds and specialty rings many in our breed do :D Same here in Tassie, only one show on at a time, we do have some breed specialties down here but not for my breed.

Dog Friendly Weed Killer
Shaar replied to Miss BeRidgierent's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We use Weed N Feed, safe for pets once dry, however like any poison it still shouldn't be ingested so if you have a grass chewer the natural alternatives would be the better option (boiling water, soap etc). -
I have Poodles and when I am just in the room with them or petting them I am fine, but if they lick my hands (specifically one particular dog) my hands will be red and burning within 5 minutes. So that makes sense. But my mum has a Basset Hound and when I visit them I am sneezing and wheezing without even touching him. The problem with that argument is that most places that advertise dogs as being good for allergy sufferers is that they use the label of "allergy friendly". They aren't saying it's the hair at all.

I can also vouch for In My Home Dog Minding, fab lady, all dogs are in the house and part of the family while they are staying.

And don't you just love the pathetic 'help me' eyes like they are dying. One of mine got a bit of packing tape stuck to his foot, he dived onto the sofa and straight into my lap, nearly sending everything off the side table flying.
