  1. It hasn't happened to me but quite a few times in the BIG line up I have seen judges ask a particular dog to do a circle, and the handler has gotten a little confused and run up to the judge thinking they have won..... aaaawkward!
  2. Yes well, they would be very hard to photograph as well! I have been going to dog shows since I was about 4 years old, so that's 20 years and I still don't know many people Apparently a good friend of my mums didn't even know they had a kid until I was about 8 because I would just sit in the corner amusing myself making teddy bears out of poodle hair :D
  3. crazy dog that can't be comfortable! At least you don't have black fluffy dogs, they are nearly impossible to photograph... the only way you can tell which end is which is where the toy is hovering Everyone thinks I play favourites with my white dog Brody because there are photos of him everywhere, but in reality, it's just because photos of Prada end up coming out like black blobs!
  4. We are usually set up over the back somewhere, blending in! Find Sue with the Standard Poodles and you will usually find us. We are going to be at the show at Westbury this coming weekend, if the weather comes right, the thunder and lightening started about an hour ago here eek! A flag, I like it, just stick it on top of our Gazeebos
  5. I always seem to miss the Tassie threads on here Congrats on the wins ellz, I know what you mean about the feet, when the judge tried to feel Cyrus' feet last Saturday he nearly jumped 10 feet in the air... he's not a foot rub fan
  6. Awww shucks!!! Yours is very pretty though, I did find some really bold red and black ones... I have just been too scared to buy incase I get the wrong size.... might have to take a trip to spotlight and see if i can find a pattern for one. I have all plain colored suits (black, mauve, mint etc etc) I want to get something a bit different or with a bit of a pattern to it.
  7. I got my pick of the litter, main registered, health tested, show quality Shih Tzu from a breeder for $750 four and a half years ago. It would have cost me around $895 to have a malt x Shih Tzu from a pet shop Yes I did have to wait for her and I did have to fly her from Townsville to Brisbane but for me it was a no brainer, registered breeder all the way for me ;) Good on you! I would rather buy a dog from the opposite end of the country than support a Puppy Mill / BYB
  8. I was trying to teach Prada my Mini Poodle to roll over... that turned into play dead because every time she tried to roll over she got 'stuck' on her back with her legs splayed open Brody my other Mini can open our baby gate He has figured out that if he jumps on the pedal hard enough it unlatches. We had to tighten the gate so much that WE have to stomp on it really hard just to get it open! Cyrus the Crested.. well... we won't talk about him To his credit he's only 5 months old
  9. Pet shop here a while back was selling "Jackapoos" for $1400 and at the same time they were selling purebred Shih Tzu pups for just $900 WTF? I can't vouch for every breeder on the price but for $900 you can usually get a WELL bred and HEALTH tested Shih Tzu from a reputable breeder (pet quality of coarse but still healthy) There are only a couple of pet shops in Launnie that don't sell puppies, I don't think we have any pet supply stores that don't sell animals at all (the few good ones only sell rabbits, guineas and birds)
  10. You'll stay with her if she has to stay overnight at the vet????? I think leaving your dog at a Vet, is a lot different than leaving your dog with some person who grooms dogs. Vets have to go to Uni for years, dog groomers don't, silly comparison. Agreed. Unless you know the groomer VERY well you never know what goes on behind closed doors. I'm not saying there aren't some wonderful groomers out there, my mum used to be one but there are some shady ones. All of my mums clients used to leave the dogs at her house and then come pick them up later because they trusted her completely. After a few visits most of the dogs actually liked coming to see her!
  11. hmmmmmmm AmandaJ - Mine seems to be the opposite to yours, mine had a jet black mane and now it has started breaking through with white/silver! Not complaining, should look lovely when it's done changing ;)
  12. I take about a size 12 top, depending on brand If yours is close to that I'd happily buy it off you ;) I have spent the past hour browsing asian tops on e-bay
  13. Yep, salt reduced here too. Chicken stock ice cubes make a tasty treat in summer too... I fill up an ice cream bucket with it, freeze it overnight then they have a lot of fun licking it on the concrete the next day. The ice blocks re also great for teething puppies to help soothe their gums.
  14. :) That would be perfect for me! Nobody else in Tas buy one!
  15. Exactly AmandaJ, there is no 100% guarantee with a show dog unless you buy an adult. Breeders usually have a good idea about how a puppy will turn out, especially ones who have been in the breed a very long time and know how a particular line grows, but sometimes things can grow a little differently or just not turn out like they expected. Oh and depending on the breed coat color and marking can also change My pup is already changing color at 5 months.

    Dog Attack

That poor child. It really makes you wonder sometimes... humans should have a license to breed.
  17. A show dog would be a lot cheaper than a show horse I would imagine You won't find a show quality dog for under $1000 some breeders charge a lot more depending on what lines have been used or the general demand for a dog from that kennel. Cost of setting up for a GSD wouldn't bee to much I would imagine... Just brushes combs, conditioners and other grooming products, maybe say $200 for the grooming products you need to start with.
  18. My little Crested LOVES Eagle Pack Puppy. They are one of the few companies that actually thought to make the small breed food actually SMALL! Some puppy food I have bought has had huge big pieces that were too hard for him to eat.
  19. I don't know if these are right or not, I'm more of a 'happy snapper' than a photographer lol
  20. I personally wouldn't do it. You want to show off your dogs head, not have it hidden or dis proportioned by rope or paracord going across his muzzle. Seeing as how the cord sits in front of the stop it will most likely give the appearance of your dogs muzzle being shorter than it is, even if you do use white. I'd enrol in some training classes or just go hardcore with the training yourself and try a few different methods. Have you tried just getting him to wear a collar and adding a weight to it to get him used to the pulling sensation?
  21. My poodles get a chicken neck before bed every night. You have to introduce neck or wings slowly or else you will end up with constipation My crested gets a half a chicken neck every couple of days. He's a bit little to handle crunching them (I'm worried he would try and swallow it) so I put a freezer bag over it and smash the bone up with a meat mallet.
  22. OMG When I was about 12 I used to wear either a red or blue tartan kilt and a white shirt when I showed for a friend of my mums! Used to wear it in Junior Handlers comps too! I hope there are no photos
  23. Thankyou His name is Cyrus and he's one evil little puppy... so hard to get a photo of EDIT - Whoops, sorry haven't figured out how to quote someone yet!
