  1. Good prizes: Blankets Towels Dog beds Wine/Champagne Cash Plaques or trophies with club name on them. Not so good prizes: Cheese platters Dinner sets Coffee mugs Things like blankets and towels will be used by everyone, they wear out so we are always buying new ones. Even if you already have towels, they will succumb to wear and tear eventually so you can crack out your prize ones. Things like dinner sets people already have, and they last a long time so people don't need new ones. If you win them, they will just sit in the cupboard forever. The plaques or trophies I personally just love, I have mine on the mantle at home on display, it's nice to show off to those non-show people that visit.
  2. lucky you don't live in Tas, as groups are rotated for order of judging, quite often our group is not judged until after completion of judging of 3 other groups by the one judge, so around 2.30 ish Be thankful you don't have a group 1 dog, 9 times out of 10 we are first group on, not fun when the frost on the ground is taller than the dog! Looking forward to the 3 dayer coming up, we are actually on LAST one day, I'm so excited!
  3. I second a Mini Poodle, I have 2 of them and they are great. They are happy to do whatever you do. If I want a lazy day around the house, they will cuddle up with me. If I want to go for a run they are happy to come too. Grooming isn't as bad as people think, I strip mine off all over but leave the ears and tail, requires minimal brushing in between clips (as long as you clip regularly, every 5-6 weeks)
  4. This only works for small dogs but I'll attach a picture of my boy in his jammies. It's a $5 babies onesie from Kmart. Just put it on backwards and the snaps do up along their back.
  5. In regards to rare breeds and 6 point challenges: About half of my boys points were 6 point challenges, the other half ranged from 7-10 points. There just aren't many of them down here so he is often the only one of the breed. The week after he titled he pulled 2 Best in Groups in a row, so I'm not worried about what others are saying, he has more than proven himself by being there in the BIS lineup more than once! Saying that dogs shouldn't get the Ch. title if they don't beat any other dogs is unfair really.
  6. Gee I wonder who the judge would give best of breed to then. I don't think champions, grand champions or untitled dogs should have their status revealed to the judges at all.
  7. The person lives in NSW. I received e reply from Dogs NSW and they are looking into whether or not they are financial members at the moment. I have saved all documents and advertisements just incase they decide to delete them so I have proof of what they have been saying. I am not as silly as them apparently. They were regular posters on this other forum until yesterday when I called them out... now they have just vanished from the radar. Admission of guilt I'd say.
  8. Back when I thought they were only breeding the oodles I was disappointed but there was nothing I could do about it. Now I have found out they are doing this... well... if I can get them in trouble I will. I have e-mailed dogsnsw. Will keep you updated if/when I get a reply. Gotnuthin: They want to show dogs but they also want to breed their "Moodles" and other mixes... basically they want to have their cake and eat it too.
  9. That's the thing though, they are using registered dogs, but only registering say every second litter to cut costs. You are safe poodlemum, the main breed in question is not Poodles and as it is a rare breed so I would rather not say here what it is.
  10. Thankyou everyone! I will send an e-mail off to the kennel club. They admitted that they only register certain litters if people ask them to so they are breeding registered dogs and not registering the pups. Thankyou again for the advice.
  11. From the ANKC code of ethics: 15. A member shall not permit any of that member’s pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog not on the Main Register without the prior approval of the member’s Member Body. 22. A member shall register all puppies bred (excluding those breeds listed in ANKC Regulation Part 6, Section 6.2 whose specific colours precludes them from being registered on any Register) by that member that are living at the date of registration. Such registration must include all puppies from the litter on the one litter registration application form and must be applied for within eighteen [18] months of the date of whelping. (6/08) So what? Is the code of ethics useless or can we actually report people for not following it?
  12. I recently found out that a person who BYB's cross-bred dogs also breeds litters registered to the ANKC and they also show their dogs. They also do not register all of their purebred litters either and seem quite proud of the fact. Here is a quote from them on another website I frequent after I asked them about registering their dogs: How do I report them for this? Would love to see them removed as a registered breeder! Edit - Oh, and yes I do know their name and location, however I can't seem to find their kennel name.
  13. Hmmmm I've never really worried about that before, until now! Thanks ladies I might sew an elastic strap over the top just in case!
  14. I love really light shoes, jazzed up ballet flats or sketchers.
  15. Really can't believe some people here... "someone elses's problems"????? really??? How about a dozen or more peoples males that are affected by YOUR dog? Bloody rude.
  16. I wouldn't. I have heard some people on here saying before (can't remember who) that male dogs should be trained to ignore a bitch in season.... bullpoop. I keep mine away so I don't tick off other exhibitors and make their dogs sniff the ground around the ring and I would expect the same respect to be payed to me. You can't train a dog to ignore a bitch in season, it's like putting a naked woman in front of a man and telling him not too look at her breasts. Not to mention if i were a judge I wouldn't look highly on having bloody hands after going over a bitch.
  17. Thanks biker girl! I'm fairly new to showing (with my own dog anyway) so I hadn't come across a note that that before is all. Will definitely be coming over for some of that fudge
  18. Oooh yum! Sounds like there is going to be a great selection. I got my numbers back today and there was a note that people needed to bring food for the canteen
  19. With mine I push forward at the withers so the chest goes forward but the neck arches back, but mine are only 5kg dogs! You could do the trick a lot of people with tabled breeds do which is stacking on the edge of the table... only with a big dog you would just stack on the edge of a step or rig up some show stacker type devices out of wood. Once they fall backwards a few times, they don't lean anymore.
  20. My boy is a year old now but I'd still call him a rising star. It gets rather cold here in Tassie over winter so he has only just started being shown regularly now it's starting to heat up! He was shown as a baby but well.... let's just say he wasn't the easiest dog to train
  21. A lot of Boxers I see around the streets carry their tails over their backs. Great Danes carry theirs in a Sabre out behind them. Seems the Dane is more likely to injure their tail. Sorry, still not convincing me injury is a reason to dock an entire breed.
  22. Any stats on other breeds... German Shepherds, Dalmatians, Whippets, Chinese Cresteds? Any breeds with full tails? Don't forget to include those in your stats! WE MUST make sure EVERY single breed is docked from birth! Otherwise it is cruelty!!!! They all might break their tails! /End sarcasm.
  23. What in the heck does video taping a dog with a broken tail have to do with what I said? Wow there are some nutters on here. Again... you have a breed that used to be docked. Why are Dalmatians not docked when they are just as likely to break their tails than a Doberman? You wrote "And those people who use "they break their tails" as an argument are you serious?" I believe that extensive injury or breaking their tails and being in pain is a good reason to dock a dog / a breed. And maybe by seeing the level of pain and distress my young girl goes through you may open your mind up and see that this is not just an asthetic point of view. Then maybe not. So wait, you are talking about a one-off incident where a dog breaks it tail and you decide to amputate? Yes that is fine if amputation will stop the dog being in pain, but we are not talking about amputation we are talking about docking. 2 completely different things. Scenario 1: 6 month old pup breaks it tail beyond repair. Vet agrees to amputate. All is well. Scenario 2: 2 year old bitch has broken it's tail and owner decides to breed it. Owner think all pups should be docked at birth to avoid breaking their tails. No, not acceptable. I still stand by my statement that docking dogs purely because they might break their tails is ridiculous. Call me cruel if you want, send me your videos of your dog screaming in pain (why you would even consider doing that I don't know) but I will never change my opinion on docking and I am glad it is banned. If you really are talking about docking, not amputating, then AGAIN, Why are Dalmatians not docked but Dobes are when you claim breaking their tails is an excuse?
