Design A Logo For The Identa-pup Id Collars For Whelping Supplies
Shaar replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why did I find this thread, was meant to go to bed but then got stuck drawing ruddy logos on the computer. Do I get brownie points for drawing a Dane? Will do some more tomorrow. -
I'm sorry but are you freaking kidding me????? I am not dedicated to my breed because I don't have thousands of dollars to travel to the mainland to compete against other dogs? I would rather spend those thousands using a top stud dog or importing a new dog than proving myself and my dogs to people like you. Yes, dog showing is expensive, but I'm not wasting my money traveling just to make you happy. I have a rare breed. In fact half my boys points were made up of 6 point challenges. But that does not make him ANY less of a dog just because he had no competition. Would I like to travel to a specialty one day? For sure! Do I think I should HAVE to... NO!

I haven't posted in this topic for a while so you probably won't remember who I'm talking about BUT, my little Crested left the "rising star" age group a few months ago (titled on his last show in junior class) and the very next weekend won a Best in Group... and to top it off he won another Best in Group the weekend after! So he has gone from rising star to full on STAR! So proud of him

Waiting for the opposite sex to be ready before taking off for breed. I have a male so I'm at the front, I always wait for the owner of the bitch to finish adjusting their lead etc and make sure they are ready before I take off... I haven't always been extended the same courtesy.

Sandgrubber, you read some of the comments down the bottom and people now actually think we are waxing and using epilators... It has done a lot of damage to the breed and thanks to her, I have had people call me cruel for waxing, or a liar if I say I don't. I don't deny there are problems, there are problems in every breed, but this is exaggeration and people gobble up every word she spews.

We have quite a few here. I have only been to 3 of them. One is just a big open paddock with a little creek running through the center. Another is a big open field with a few trees and some agility equipment. The third is basically bush land with walking tracks through it, but it's entirely dog-proof. The dogs favourite is the agility one, they like the bushland one but tend to stick to the path and don't explore as much.

Should Members Of The Public Be Allowed To Bring Their Own Dogs Along
Shaar replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have seen a lot of show people who have been in the 'business' for decades who still don't control their own dogs... The only difference is I have learned to avoid them. I would treat any new dog the same way whether it be a showies or a regular dog owners, by assessing behaviour before I let my dog near it. I don't know what mainland shows are like but most of the shows here the public doesn't go anywhere near the race, so the only time when you are at "risk" from these non-show dogs is when you are walking your dog for toilet breaks etc... and if you can't manage to keep your own dogs away from the general publics then that puts you in the same boat as them really. -
I love the grey plastic ones, your hand doesn't have to go anywhere near the mouse, you just squeeze the back and it opens up. They're cheap too.
-
Agreed! But who would fund it? The Chinese Crested write up she did was laughable. Apparently I pour hot wax on my dog then rip it off... I have been told that's what I do so it must be true.
-
OMG I bought one of those as well! But mine was a temperature sensitive on, it glowed blue for cold and red for hot... it lasted about a week

I think it's only fair that if you have paid your entry then you have the right to have your dog judged properly. Even if they think your dog is the worst thing in the world it's common courtesy to still let that dog have a go.

Should Members Of The Public Be Allowed To Bring Their Own Dogs Along
Shaar replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
Appologies, I have not read back so sorry if this is out of place or repeating anything... Absolutely members of the public should be allowed to bring dogs to shows. You have just as much chance of your dog being bitten by another exhibitors than a non-entered dog, hence why I don't let my dog near others unless I know them. I brought this up a week or so ago in another topic, I think by encouraging people to bring their own dogs it will make them feel more involved and could influence people to buy from reg breeders and start showing. -
Yes Only mine is racist... he only chases white cars. Youtube - Brody chasing cars Edit - By the way this is a fully fenced dog park! I wouldn't let him near the road off leash.
-
I bought one that looks pretty much identical for $10. There's a tiny heating pad on the dogs back and a huge battery pack. Plus the front sleeves didn't fit. This one may be better made, but I threw mine away.

Same here, I have yet to show my own dog under the same judge twice. There have been a couple of judges that did not put my dog up on the day but I would happily show under them again. One was the nicest man with both the exhibitors and the dogs, would definitely give him an entry despite not winning. Others I wouldn't drag a dead dog to the show for them to go over. When my boy was just a pup and still not trained very well on the table (happy puppy wiggles) one judge was very forceful and it took me quite a while to get him over it... he still doesn't wag his tail on the table any more.
-
Doesn't bother me either. My boy can bit a bit wiggly on the table unless I hold him so I'd rather the judge mouth him.
-
Very good! I really like the last one, the details around the mouth and teeth is fantastic, and you have the perspective really good too! The second one, I love the eyes on the dog on the left, and the feeling of movement with the ear swishing out. The first one is just really, really cute

I have an 8kg top loader. It's one of those ones without the bar in the center and a lint trap at the top. I use single bed doonas cut in half for my dogs and it washes them fine. I only have to replace the beds if they get torn, rarely because they are too dirty.
-
They did a segment on faux furs on The Circle the other morning... I have a couple of jackets with faux fur on them and they definitely aren't real... they feel acrylic and have mesh backing. If you like the look of fur on jackets buy a regular jacket and sew fur on yourself... you can get guaranteed faux furs from fabric stores, you can always tell by the backing.
-
OMG, no way that can be right! If they were taking the dog because it had killed the chickens and had been declared dangerous, they wouldn't be rehoming it. I don't see how they can even get in trouble for it killing the chooks when it was in their own yard?
-
Correct. I've seen numerous videos of alive animals being skun. One of the most shocking was a raccoon. And also a dog on a pile (a pile of animals all who had been skun alive) who lifted his head and was looking around. I wish this post had a disclaimer on it first. Going to have some great nightmares tonight.

^This pretty much sums up my feeling as well. There are some fantastic, honest judges out there. More people need to start acting the same. I'd be interested if anyone had statistics on numbers of judges 30 years ago as to now.
-
Oh yep, if they aren't a hand shaker then don't do it, but I meant I got caught out one day when the judge was standing there holding out his hand to shake mine and I just walked straight out the ring. It was my first time showing this particular dog and I was just so relieved it was over with I wasn't paying attention!

Breed Spotting At The Million Paws Walk
Shaar replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in General Dog Discussion
The last MPW I attended actually had people representing the local oodle farm there, promoting their "products" It made no sense to me that the RSPCA would allow that. Haha yep, they sure know how to flog their oodles don't they. Maybe registered breeders should branch out into television advertising to keep up. -
If you do win, make sure you walk up and shake the judges hand too, don't get stressed and leave them hanging there in the middle of the ring with their arm outstretched... oops.
