  1. Whatever you guys use is fine...just make sure its properly sterilised BEFORE you collect the sample, you have no idea what sort of pathogens can contaminate the sample from using unsterilised collection equipment, it could show a bacterial infection which doesnt exist because it picked up a bacteria on the ladle or in the container used
  2. I crate trained my GR puppy, and my 8yo JRT decided she liked to steal Lexis crate too, so I decided to try crate training her, she doesnt get locked up at night time, its just her bed, but she is happy to stay locked in it if she has to, Lexi gets locked up in hers and it doesnt cause any issues with one being locked up and not the other
  3. I made a comparison between the SBT and BULL TERRIER not Amstaff. Lol, Im even more confused now!!! I think I might say bye bye to this thread seeing as I dont have anything worthwhile to contribute and go and snuggle with my GR LMAO
  4. Yes they just eat it raw Word of advice, you dont cook anything that has bones in it, I dont even like defrosting it in the microwave because Im worried it will make the bones too brittle, if Ive forgotten to defrost Lexis chicken frame I put it in hot water in its freezer bag
  5. Was it entire? if it was then maybe he was worried you would dob him in for having an entire pitty on the loose
  6. Maybe its a Bullmastiff because he cant admit to having a Pitbull because of BSL, are Bullmastiffs involved with that? I dont know much about BSL to be honest
  7. Confused Isnt the question about the Amstaff and Pitbull? where does Amstaff and SBT come into it? I mean I know they are seperate breeds, but the question specifically refers to the first two breeds mentioned... Im on the fence about it, I dont know a terrible deal about any one of the breeds so I didnt vote
  8. my girl has had chicken necks once...swollowed it whole in 1 second flat, so now she either gets a chicken frame or pet mince (minced chicken frames) try the chicken necks, Id get them from the butcher, that way you can specify how many you want to buy and see how she goes with them, if she actually chews them then great, but if she doesnt you might need to go with wings, drumsticks or a chicken frame (halved or quartered) so she will chew it (Im worried if my girl doesnt chew the necks they will 'go down the wrong pipe' lol, hence why she doesnt get them anymore, she doesnt even chew her kibble)
  9. I think thats why everything listed says "can cause" doesnt mean it will cause the reaction
  10. Grapes have a toxin of some sort in their skin I think...dont quote me on that though Capsicum is in the onion family isnt it? So that would be bad for them too, which would explain why the other dog got sick after eating so many capsicums I think Ive read somewhere that raw potato is bad, but they can have it if its cooked As I said dont quote me on any of this, just what Ive heard
  11. I used to have my girl on Supercoat and noticed that when her adult coat started coming through it was really dry, Ive since changed her diet to Royal Canin kibble (Lab Jr as you cant get stock of GR jr in Australia yet) chicken mince, egg or sardines, or she gets a whole chicken frame with a little bit of kibble Id start her on Supercoat because that is what she is used to, but if the budget permits Id gradually change her over to a premium large breed puppy food at least while she is growing, I havnt looked back since putting her on RC When do you get your little girl? have you picked a name yet? ETA - since taking both my girls off SC Ive had half the backyard pickup I used to (my other dog is on Nutro, the Nutro rep didnt recommend it for the pup because she is a large breed, but its been good for my itchy JRT)
  12. give him a warm wheat bag or similar to cuddle up with, some people say a ticking clock helps, and has he got a teddy? You need to remember that he has been ripped away from his siblings and his mum, so his whole world has been turned upside down, he is in a strange place with strange people, and he is being expected to sleep alone, the things I mentioned above will make him feel like he still has his litter
  13. Ditto!! infact mine is wearing a jacket tonight so Im surprised Lexi hasnt decided Tess is more fun to jump on than any other time
  14. How does that mean they just want to sell products? I know of obedience clubs and pet dog training places that are NOT at vets and do not sell produc that do first week without pups. In my last 12 months of taking classes I changed to doing them this way too. The reason - it is really hard for the owners to concentrate on information while also trying to deal with a bouncy puppy or fearful puppy. By having first week without pups the information of what to do when you arrive to help settle your puppy (eg not letting it rush up to other pups who may be nervous etc), what to do if puppy is barking/crying carrying on. I set aside a large time to discuss any issues that had cropped up and go over house training basics. Over the 4 weeks I still covered the same content but got out a lot of theory things while people were not trying to manage fido. This meant classes were much smoother, quieter, calmer. Nervous dogs had not been terrified bfore class started as people were aware of what to do/not to do when they arrived. We also were able to keep things moving at a better pace as many things had already been discussed. You do have a point there Ultimately Goldee what you should probably do is find out if they are running a course atm, and go along and watch each, and see which one you feel would most benefit you and your pup eta cos I cant spell lol
  15. FB - Yes it can, but considering that they dont take the dogs along on the first week...that strikes me as really odd, this means the pup will only have 3 weeks of 'fun at the vets' I think the obedience place is the better option IMHO, Im sure the pups will still have play and fun, but they will have more room to have fun, and hopefully the instructors will match pups well so they dont get too scared of the other dog
  16. Id go to the obedience place...considering that the first week you dont take your pup to the vets...tells me they are just interested in selling their products
  17. Id check out the puppy preschool the vet offers before signing up, I know some are really good, but Im glad I took mine to one offered by an obedience group rather than the vets one, I had Lexi at the vet for a shot and they were setting up for PP that night, all they did was put up walls around a corner of the surgery and set out a few seats, there wasnt a lot of space for them, while I was there 4 big breed puppies arrived...didnt seem right to me, but maybe thats because my PP was in an enclosed field, and while we did basic obedience with them, they could also have a run around and play with the other pups
  18. Agreed, my old vet was horrible, not mean just anti social, but I was out in the bush and he was more professional than the other vet in town, so I didnt have a lot of choice If you arent happy with the vet you take her to then change, a bad experience as a pup will most likely affect her for life, so you need to keep everything positive
  19. Tennis balls are the best toy for my JRT because she is such a strong chewer, her main mission is to crack the seam and split it in half, provided you inspect them and throw them away when they become too chewed to call safe they are fine, and cheap too lol, you can get them for 50c each usually
  20. Take her for lots of little drives so she knows the car isnt bad, when you go to the vet take treats along so she learns that "the place that smells funny" is good, the staff at my vets are very good but you can even ask the staff at the front to give her treats as well. I walk my girl around the show room area and she loves it, there is bags of food at her height so she thinks she is in heaven smelling all the food and inspecting all the stock they keep, so far there has been no problems but then again she is only 5 months old I can sympathise about your last dog (is that the JRT?) my JRT HATES the vet and hates the car just as much, I was only 16 when I got her so she quickly learned that the only time she gets into the car is when she is going to the vet...and thats where they give you needles, and stick things up your butt...and it smells really bad, lol. That is why Im suggesting lots of little drives, so she doesnt associate the car with the vet
  21. My dogs dont travel in a crate, Im thinking about getting a little cat sized one to see if it will help my JRT with her car phobia but generally they just have the back seat I used to have them clipped into the seat belts like you do with your pup, but I found it was too easy for them to release themselves by accidentally stepping on the release, now Ive made straps that go from the anchor point to the harness...no more free dogs, but then I suppose if you have two kids in car seats then you probably dont have a free anchor point lol
  22. No! Lexi loves her teddy, she is sleeping with him right now...actually, she is sleeping on him lol At first all I bought her was boring 'Tess safe' toys, and she wasnt interested in them, but as soon as I brought Teddy home, her eyes lit up, it was love at first sight
  23. You should come join us in the GR thread http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...610&st=1920
  24. My goldies favourite toy is her teddy, she also loves squeaky toys but cant really have them because my JRT destroys anything that makes a noise, the other toys she likes to munch on are the dumbell shaped ones, easier for her to hold I guess, Ive got the dental ones with the cog that moves around each end, its supposed to clean their teeth, you can get them from Coles Id definitely get a teddy or two for her, just get them from the cheap store but make sure you remove any hard eyes or noses before she gets them
