  1. I agree with teebs, she is an idiot for jumping in like that
  2. Genuine question...what age did you consider to be old? Most larger breeds don't live far beyond 12, of course there is exceptions, but that is their general life span. Like I said earlier I hope your boy does have plenty left in him, but I'm just wondering what age you do consider old for a dog?
  3. Yes, my German Shepherd has always had white muzzle I also want to add that most people here who are saying their dog is old - have a 15 yo dog, mine is only 10. I have a 10 year old dog, and yes every birthday reminds me that she won't have too much time with me. But my 10 year old dog is a small breed, a breed that is well known to live beyond 17, she is and has always been healthy yet I still see her as an old dog, and her having a suspected stroke on the weekend has just reminded me of that fact. So what if people comment on your dogs age? people comment on my 'old' dog who most likely has another 6 good years in her. You need to stop taking offence to people calling your dog old and instead boast about how your senior is in good health despite his age
  4. I'm confused, why did you ask the question then? You asked if people were being rude or if you were too sensitive, I replied saying I think you're taking it heart... Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear
  5. I think you're taking it to heart too much, you need to remember that 10 is old for some dogs, especially large dogs. I hope that your dog has many a good year left in him, but the unfortunate thing is a lot of people do lose their best friends at this age
  6. Yeah, first dog too so this getting old business is all new to me, despite her age she has always been a very youthful dog so it's hard to think that she might not have too many years left with me
  7. She seems a lot better today, if you didn't know her you wouldn't even pick up that she was at the vet yesterday. Her gait is still a little 'stiff' but other than that she seems a lot better. She does seem a bit uncomfortable when she is sitting so I wonder if she has a pinched nerve there. I'll make an appointment with her vet chiro and see what he can do for her Weird, I'll be keeping a close eye on her, poor old duck, this is the first 'my dog is getting old' moment we've had
  8. We sprayed for weeds a couple of weeks ago now, but the dogs were kept inside for the day nothing else different apart from her behaviour She doesn't seem distressed or anything, I think whatever it is it's only affected her nervous system Come to think of it her calcium, sodium and potassium should be up if it is something to do with her nervous system....
  9. He did suspect a stroke, he said he can do some bloodwork but it would be unlikely to tell us much. I'm not thinking clearly enough at the moment to even think of what tests would be run in a human If she is still like this tomorrow I'll make an appointment at the vet/chiro I've been taking her too
  10. I've just had Tess at the after hours vet, early this morning she seemed as though she was gagging on something, she was breathing fine and wasn't in any distress apart from the gagging so I decided to just 'wait and see' later in the day it was apparent something was wrong, she was walking funny and her breathing was off, so we took her to the vet thinking maybe she had a tick Anyway long story short he doesn't think it was a tick, he had a good look on her and couldn't find one, but her symptoms don't match up with that, so now he is thinking she might have a neurological problem. She seems to have hyperreflexia (overactive reflexes) her gait is stiff and seems a little jarred at times, even when she is sitting she is constantly picking up one of her front feet, then the other. She doesn't seem to be in pain or have any balance issues Anyone got any ideas? she is 11 this year
  11. Don't count on colourbond keeping a beagle in, there are plenty of escape artist videos on you tube with beagles escaping from runs with a roof! As for another breed, do you want to stick with gun dogs? what about a cocker spaniel or similar?
  12. Got my bag of chicken and rice today, the puppies were outside being entertained by Mr GG85 so I got a small handful of the new kibble and quietly went outside. Miss Lexi was instantly at my feet after smelling the food...me thinks she approves of the new kibble lol
  13. Is it the IPB one? OT, those who use tapatalk, what is so good about it?
  14. I'm hoping my supplier gets her stock tomorrow, I'm running out and I want to try the chicken!
  15. I have used a prong on my Golden to teach LLW. Previous to using the prong I had tried every method in the book, and they all failed I got onto K9Pro who recommended I do their LLW course with the aid of a prong, and for once, finally, the use of that collar gave us both the chance to learn together. I kind of relate a prong to power steering in a car, yes you get there in the end, but power steering makes your life so much easier. With a prong I had more control over Lexi which meant I had a chance to teach her that a walk can be enjoyed without pulling my arm out of its socket Before putting the prong on Lexi I tried it on my own neck and pulled the lead, it didn't hurt, it did give a 'WTF was that?' feeling for a second, but no pain
  16. Take the opportunity to do some business and commerce courses at tafe, you might have all the best ideas in the world, but if you don't know how to run a business efficiently you will run into trouble very early on
  17. Handwritten cardboard sign attached to a light pole saying 'staffie pups 4 sale'? That's "English Staffie" please. Blue English staffie.... "Rare" Blue English Staffy! First check if they have 5 moles on their face, that's how you tell they're pure you know
  18. Can I ask why some rescues don't rehome interstate? It seems silly if someone interstate will give them the perfect forever home
  19. Oh, my dad said they prefer a fawn female, but I guess that depends on what is available to them :)
  20. My grandparents have asked me to look around for an adult (about 2 year old) pug they can adopt. They've had pugs before, they're both retired and the dog would be an inside dog...is there any pug rescue groups I can put them onto? or does anyone know of a breeder who has an adult pug they're wanting to rehome? They don't want a puppy, so we've sort of said the minimum age should be around 2
  21. Hi sherel I'm interested in feeding the chicken and rice formula, but my dogs have trouble maintaining weight (damn skinny dogs!) will the lower fat/protein content pose a problem?
  22. The chuck it ultra ball is a super alternative to a tennis ball :) Chuckit balls have survived both of my chewers, just make sure you get the rubber ones and not the fluffy ones
