Im trying to stop my JRT from marking on walks, she has been getting more and more obsessive with it and its getting very annoying to have her constantly tugging on the lead to sniff each and every tree/post/tyre or whatever a boy dog has found to be a good place to take a leak...anyone have ideas on stopping the behaviour?

Bach Rescue Formula For Dogs
GoldenGirl85 replied to sheena's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have the drops, I bought them for my JRT and it does seem to calm her a little...I recently had a job interview and tried it...the effect was instant! You dont need to get the special pet one for dogs either, its the same but the pet version doesnt have the alcohol taste -
I would also be teaching them a 'gentle' command, Im not sure if you have already done so with Ringo but with my pup I taught her by getting a chicken neck (or similar) and offering it to he with it mostly in my hand, when she was simply nibbling on the chicken Id say gentle but keep my hand over the chicken and only let her have a bit, if she started getting too rough with me Id close my fingers again until she was being gentle again

Advice For Feeding Evening Meal

To me it just sounds like this is now his routine, if you crate him overnight you can slowly shift his routine to start his day later in the morning, if you are finding that he soils his crate then there may be a medical issue, but Id try leaving him in the crate for a little while longer at first to see if that works -
All spiders deserve to die anyway IMHO lol *shudders*

Mine only wear collars when they are out, Tess can easily slip hers but Lexi thought it was a game to take Tessas collar off, in the end I got sick of hunting through the yard to find it so I decided to take them off

We aren't hosting it, but it is an ADAA event at our grounds. The info isn't up on the website just yet, but in short: When - August 22 all day. Where - South Brisbane Softball Club, Preston Road, Carina. (Doubles as BAD's home grounds.) What: Full day beginners (incl puppies) to intermediate seminar. Your dog will need some foundation skills for the day to be worthwhile. For some classes beginners will be fine, for others you need a starters level title. There is a mix of levels in each session throughout the day. Session range from walking and running full courses to rear end awareness exercises and crate training/crate games. How much - I forget, somewhere between $50 and $80 for the day I think, but will update when I have a chance to check. Who: Instructors from all SEQ clubs will be there on the day. What else - atendees need to be members of ADAA (not just an ADAA club). ADAA membership is $15 for 3 years. Hope that helps for the minute, but keep an eye on the ADAA events calendar for the registration forms. Cheers Tony Awesome thanks for that...Id better join ADAA lol -

AD I was told about a training seminar I think your club is hosting? have you got any info on that? -
I have my pup on Royal Canin...scratch that, at the moment she is on a mix of Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Nutro, Pro Pac and Holistic Select, lol, I got a stack of samples and a couple of 3kg bags for free so Ive slowly been mixing them as Im low on RC, but when she is on just RC she does well on it

Just a question...does your puppy school sell a specific brand of food? they could simply be trying to switch you to 'their' brand, my agility club pushes their members to feed Pro Pac because we are sponsored by them But yes the brand of food you are using may simply not agree with your pup, if you are concerned just buy a small bag of a new food and change the pup over and see what results you get

Do you guys have any suggestions for getting Tess to run tunnels properly? she is more than happy to go in and she knows what the 'tunnel' is, and sometimes she will run through but most of the time she will skip the exit and run by my side, she will go in but turn around and come out the entrance again, or jump on the tunnel It isnt a confidence issue, I really dont know what it is... -
GL why do you put your pups on an adult formula so young?
-
I was talking to a Nutro rep about changing my dogs, and he said to me he didnt recommend Nutro for Lexi because she would be better off with a specialised large breed food So either he knows something about their large breed puppy food we dont or He doesnt know much about the stock he is selling, but he seemed very knowledgeable on their other products

I have Lexi on RC Labrador Junior, the GR Junior variety isnt readily available in stores at the moment but they are practically the same from what I can see, she seems to be doing well on it. Im trialling her on a RAW diet atm, Guide Dogs QLD has had a RAW diet made to use with all their dogs and they are now selling it commercially, I figured I might as well give it a go because they were selling it cheap at their open day last week, I was considering putting her on RAW eventually but I didnt want to start until she was fully grown as I wasnt sure about what to put in the mix, but this is ready made

Scared Of Making The Same Mistakes
GoldenGirl85 replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keep in mind that your byber might have taken the pups away from mum too soon and that could have affected your girls behaviour as well -
Good point

The only cross I could ever see is something white and fluffy, but that face is all JRT to me
-
Not silly at all, and he will probably surprise you! I bet he will love the beach, even if he doesnt like the water he will enjoy running on the sand

What sort of surface is it? he simply might not feel stable if its a slippery surface
