  1. This might sound stupid but... prefix? We have been waiting a few years to get a dog and we have just settled into a new place and everything is lining up ;) The prefix is the breeders brand, all of their pups would carry the same prefix before their registered name, if both parents are registered to breed with
  2. Great news for Charlie!!! If you dont mine me asking what is wrong with Charlie?
  3. Ouch Tiggy, thats scary...lucky he cleared it Tess is entered for her first competition on Sept 4th, on home ground too so its probably a good place to start Training seminar with both my girls Sunday, then first competition, then the next weekend another one up the coast...wow getting right into this now that Ive started!!
  4. As a child I wanted to create a whole new breed that included every single breed of dog known to man, from the Chihuahua to the Great Dane...glad I grew out of that one ! :D Other than that I had a small obsession with Dalmatians thanks to 101 Dalmatians, which makes me on the fence over ever owning one now. One one hand my family would never let me live it down, but on the other I could have a lot of fun with my family not letting me live it down lol
  5. My mum is looking for a grooming table for her Cavvies, but doesnt really know what she should be looking for, she has found a few online but doesnt really know if they are a good buy or not, so we are hoping to get some insight from dolers! she is also looking at grooming apparel (so she doesnt get fur all over her clothes) and some good quality brushes and combs, any advice will be appreciated She lives in rural NSW so it will have to be purchased online
  6. This is my concern, if its not bothering her then Id leave it for the time being, but keep a close eye on it for infection, there is so much bacteria in our mouths and that is an open wound, one thing you can do is clean it daily with a bit of saline solution which will help to prevent an infection
  7. Isnt it disgusting? lol The strawberry look comes from damaged red cells, they leak into the serum, if the red cells arent damaged it just looks like a vanilla milkshake
  8. Here is a picture of spun down blood, this serum (the yellow bit at the top) is the normal colour, sometimes its not as yellow, but basically this is normal, the red is the red cells, and the clear in the middle is just gel to keep it all separated When someone has a lot of fat in their blood that serum wont be see through, it looks as though its had milk added to it
  9. When the bloods are spun down the serum separates from the red cells, they should be half and half or there abouts, the fat in the blood makes the serum appear cloudy instead of clear wbc is white blood count
  10. Mine need annuals as a requirement from our agility club
  11. Do they do a better price on vaccines if you vaccinate both your dogs at the same time? Ive head of some that will do the second dog for half the normal price if they get done at the same time, havnt had a chance to ask the vet Ive been using if they do this
  12. In people your blood is full of fat if you have really bad cholesterol, or if you have just had a fatty meal before having the bloods done, it makes the serum go all milky and icky
  13. Black Dog also sells another attachment so you can clip 3 or more dogs onto their brace lead
  14. Ok Ill give it a go, thanks Im not going to push her to learn it too quickly, she is only 8 months old and I wont be training her until she is at least 18 months, but I figure if I can get this basic stuff down it will give us a head start in the beginners course
  15. Taught properly running contacts mean that the dog knows to drive for a spot at the bottom of the contact and then keep on going with no thought of a stop. Exactly as it sounds - they 'run' the contacts. How are you teaching your 2o2o contatcts at the moment? Walk along a plank and drop at the end with 2 feet off, progress to putting the plank on a slant, then progress to lowered contacts With Tess I was never able to get a proper 2o2o, but she will go to the bottom of the contact which Im happy with Have you considered using a target and nose touch at the end of the plank and then fading the target? I would do this again as I was surprised at how quickly Ziggy picked it up. I find it easy to define the criteria. Havnt considered it no, but Ill give it a go I know anything can be used as a target, but what do you suggest i use? and to teach her to target to the object should I just shape and click her?
  16. Thats good, it sounds like what I want in a harness Now just to pick a colour, I really like that apple green, but by coincidence everything I have for Tess is purple now, so I wonder if I should go with purple so it matches everything else lol
  17. Oh I think I get it now, so both straps go under the belly and clip either side of the back piece, then you need to attach a lead or something to hold it all together? What do you mean by very low profile for walking?

  19. I think this only refers to outdoor areas, I would never take my dogs inside a cafe but I think its wrong for dogs to be banned from outdoor areas
  20. Where do you get letric soda crystals from? Ive been meaning to get some to have on hand just incase
  21. I found that when I was in the UK, Europe is so dog friendly, even touristy areas like castles had doggy doo doo bins and drinking fountains for them I remember a while ago there was a discussion on the radio about banning of dogs in public places, some silly girl rang up saying that they should be banned because she is so allergic to dog saliva that if a dog even sniffs a something and she touches it, like sitting on a chair the dog has sniffed she will go into anaphylaxis, I felt like calling in saying If you are that allergic stop sitting on chairs naked, get desensitised and stop hating all dogs and their owners for loving their pets and wanting to spend time with them
  22. Just wondering does anyone have this harness? Im after a new one for my JRT and this one looks like it should fit the bill I want something which can double as a walking harness, it cant be too chunky as I already have one of the chunky ones you can get at the supermarket and she thinks she cant walk with it on...poor lass. I also like the seat belt loop that comes with it because this style stops her movement in the car and helps her to relax because she cant see out the window My main concern with these harnesses is that the buckle seems confusing, Ive never actually seen the harness so it could just be my imagination telling me stories, but the description on the website seems a bit weird So anyway, who has one and what do you think of it?
  23. What do you guys mean by running contacts? I started teaching Lexi 2o2o today, she is starting to catch on! the only problem is that she knows she has to drop, but doesnt realise she needs to be on the board when she drops, I wonder if I should put the board on a slant like I had to for Tess, that way when she slips off she will realise that she needs to be on the board
  24. Thanks I have filled my big one with Natures Gift and frozen it for my girls before, and it always gets cleaned out, but Im not sure which dog is finishing it, which is why Im wondering if she just needs something more interesting or a bigger Kong lol
