  1. My bf wants to go to the snow next week too...only we won't have the dogs, they'll be staying at my parents Can anyone suggest somewhere that actually has snow...and is reasonably cheap to stay for just one night?
  2. Are they looking at getting a puppy or an adult? I just remember a number of threads by you when mindy was a pup... And they didn't seem terribly forgiving of her 'puppyness'... Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick, I just thought I'd put it out there OT, but how is mindys skin issues going?

  5. Harper is a self confessed first time puppy owner and went through a lot of emotional highs and lows when she first got this puppy, the last thing she needs is another dog at this point
  6. Have you crate trained Harper? that might make him a bit more comfortable being alone...for short periods I mean, then you can gradually lengthen the time and his access to the house etc
  7. Really?...definitely time for a second opinion http://www.k9pro.com.au/
  8. OMG poor Diesel, Ive shared this link on fb Are you allowed to put up photos of his x-rays? that would have a good effect if people can actually see whats going on inside...
  9. I tried to change Lexi over to adult food at 10 months...and had to change her back! regardless how much I fed her she wouldn't maintain weight, but as soon as I put her back on a mix of the two she was fine, now at 20 months she is still on the mix, but as soon as I'm through the RC I have Ill be putting her on Black Hawk, hopefully she will maintain her weight this time round lol

  11. I've been on the other side of the supermarket conversation...trying to give away samples of dog food at a Big W checkout, there was usually three responses to the question "Have you got a dog at home?" 1) OMG can you smell him/her? 2) *person checks self, and after finding no apparent evidence of hair* How did you know??? 3) *person gets offended at the thought that they might possibly be a dog owner* poor lonely souls they must be lol
  12. Tell him, give him time to say goodbye, but perhaps only tell him the day of, or the day before so there is less anxiety, also assure him that she will just go to sleep, that it won't be like last time
  13. I am almost positive it won't do anything in regards to leash pulling. When Hugo had that problem, the only thing that worked was training it out of him. Or a halti. But we wanted him to walk normally using a flat collar, a halti is like a bandaid solution, just like a Thundershirt (if by some chance it does work to stop your dog's pulling). Arcatapet.com have nicely-priced Thundershirts, but eBay is probably a teeny bit cheaper. Thundershirts in Australia will cost you more than those overseas. Demi they're very reasonably priced from Pets1 Yes but they still cost more than those you find overseas (which was what I said, not that Australian retailers were unreasonably pricing them). Factor shipping into that ;)

  15. I understand that, what I'm trying to say is that I have very little control over her when she spots a cat, I was simply enquiring as to whether or not a prong might help me regain control while Im working the distraction training... forget I even asked
  16. Probably lots of ways to deal with this. But personally, I wouldn't just buy and put on a prong, check chain, head collar, or any other correction device, in this situation. I'd personally retrain the loose leash walking behaviour (and the "leave" command) in a low distraction environment, then practice with increasing distractions, introducing correction collar if and when necessary. A professional trainer to guide you through the process would probably be a big help. But, other advice may differ. Oh I wouldn't just go out and buy a prong (or any other 'fixit') lol, we don't really have 'loose lead' walking exactly, she walks out in front of me, with the lead firm, but she doesn't pull, if she does a couple of checks on her flat collar is all that is needed to remind her to stop pulling...until we come across the above situation. Lately Ive been walking her with a double ended lead clipped to a flat collar and a front leading harness, just to give me a bit extra control when it's needed, we got a bit slack with training for a bit there, mostly I'm just using the end of the lead attached to the collar, but I have the extra 'power' there with the harness if its needed. Today we came across a cat and she went mental as always, but this cat didn't run off, so I found that I can walk Lexi past with about a 10m gap between us and the cat and I can get her focus back, if I could do that all the time I could slowly close the gap, but usually a cat will hiss and carry on then take off, and Lexi will want to chase when it does
  17. Genuine question I have a big problem with Lexi and in particular when we come across a cat or some (not all) dogs on walks, I have no control over her until we're well past the offending animal. When I can I try to take her off the path and do some focus work until the animal has gone past, but that isn't always possible and it makes for a very difficult walk for me, especially when I know there is a cat nearby, Lexi will often lunge for them, not aggressively, but because she wants to chase, and with her being half of my weight, it makes it very difficult to keep her under control, martingales and front leading harnesses have no effect on her when she is this driven for them...would a prong be a suitable tool to help this? I would love to be able to walk her past a cat and not have her want to make chase
  18. http://www.pets1.com.au has them at great prices. I bought mine direct from the supplier in the US, from there, even with shipping, it was cheaper than the cost of the shirt anywhere else in Aus (not including shipping)...unfortunately Pets1 didn't have any in the size I needed when I bought mine. If they don't have the size you need Id suggest emailing to find out how far away new stock is, I know they're expecting more soon
  19. I have. And every limb I could fit it over too. On my neck, I didn't even get a red mark. I got a mark on the top of my arm but that's because it was too loose and slid over my skin as I pulled it around (hard) so the prongs were on the soft part of my arm. Once I took some links out and fitted it properly to myself, that stopped. The check chain i put on my arm caused a bruise, and while admittedly, I do bruise easily, i will now never put one on my dog. So...what does it feel like? I took a look at the 'other' fb page on this subject...and of course there is all these people saying about how cruel it was, and that the owners should put it on their own neck 'to see how much they like it' lol
  20. Don't get me started on the camo   Awww come on! I keep seeing all these camo references on fb too...and I just don't get it!!!
  21. Good to hear you're not going senile Steve I did fall weak to my own curiosity and did a search too, and I found a thread in which Rusky took offence to Steve quoting some things they said with factual answers (albeit a bit of jest and humour was also involved)...perhaps this is why Rusky has posted what they did?
  22. Yes! poor Tess never really experienced a thunderstorm until she was about 5, so of course when she did experience her first one she thought the world was going to end! I have invested in a thundershirt, but haven't really had much of a chance to use it
  23. I gotta ask...what is with the camo?
