Yes she has a friend who is a vet, who thinks the puppy is not in any pain. She isn't a small animal vet but specialises in horses. The vet being a friend, I felt that both the vet and my sister were bringing the financial situation into the equation. I am really concerned the way the puppy moves, I wish I had a video of it to show you. I have a springer as well, they are athletic dogs, this poor little fellow has a go at running, one front legs throws out and the other leg is useless. It would be easier for me to just let this go, but my heart and head is saying not enough has been done.

I am offering to pay for consultation but need to find the correct person near Grafton..she has accepted that. She contacted the breeder this morning and they spoke to each other all warm and fuzzy..wants her to visit her, wants to see puppy. Breeder said the vet told her to put puppy to sleep but couldn't do it. So obviously did nothing instead.

Yes I am tired of 2nd guessing about this pup. I have concerns with his other leg, it is extremely muscular but is miss shaped. His front is extremely wide and flat. His hindquarters do not have very much muscle tone either, I was expecting the muscles to be very developed but he must be depending on that one working leg..he sort of drags the other bad leg and of course the elbow of that leg is not attached. She was going to have him x-rayed and asked me the approx cost then decided against it. I know. I am struggling with this myself..I can't say it to her though. She thinks that if he is well fed and being trained and is loved then it is enough.

I totally agree redangel and I am struggling with this issue as well. I did originally push for the puppy to be returned to the breeder. I feel he was offloaded by the breeder as a simple option. I have made some suggestions to my sister on how she could try and raise money to help him but to no avail. She is speaking with me now and saying she can live with him as he is and it does make really angry that she hasn't done enough. My sister lives in Grafton and I am in Sydney, I didn't know how badly the puppy was effected until when on holidays up in Coffs spent 1 day with him. The photo on my avatar is my springer and the springer lying down is my sisters. He is microchipped and vaccinated now.

My main concern is getting help for this puppy. The more I look into this, I don't think this kennel is a puppy mill, but a breeder trying to make money. I have found out that they are using at least 3 breeds and crossing at least one of them with a Poodle. I don't know conditions of the kennel. I only know about how the puppy was received by my sister. The vet that my sister is in consultation with is now saying "that is puppy is in no pain, then leave it alone." However I believe this is because of lack of funds from my sister, she has really taken on a dog that she can't afford and now loves him far too much to do anything but love him and look after him to best of her ability. If he had been treated when it was first damaged then he would be normal now. Unlikely in a small juvenile animal. Good luck proving their intention, they may well have considered putting the pup to sleep, you argue to save money, the breeder may well argue in the best interests of the pup. So is it usual practice (for reputable breeders) to find a home for a puppy that is not microchipped, vaccinated or wormed? I would have thought that caring dog breeders would do the best possible for their puppies, have I been misled? I thought microchipping was mandatory.

After lots of research and poking and prodding, we have found the breeder. They were at one time a bonafide breeder..won't mention the breed but it wasn't springers. They were a registered kennel with DOGSNSW, not now though. Not sure now if she was running a puppy mill, my sister thought so but not sure where she is getting info. However regardless of being a "proper" breeder or not..she still did the wrong thing by the puppy. There is also a link to the kennel owned by a certain vet! Not sure where to take this now..I have the phone number. What do you think?

Thank you, I will heed your advice. Have been very careful with our enquiries, these people are very cagey. Would like to think we could report them to the RSPCA but my research isn't supporting this. May leave it in the hands of a Rescue Organisation that are interested in the case.

There is a springer spaniel breeder in Grafton, but it is not her.

Yes English Springer, but the mill was true factory as they have all different breeds..cages off the ground, filthy etc

My sister has a 10 month old ESS. I knew he had front leg problems which happened when he was a few days, the dam rolled on him. But I didn't realise how bad it was until I saw him last week. My sisters neighbour bought a toy poodle from a puppy farm near Grafton..maybe Coutts Crossing and at the same time as purchasing the poodle was offered the then 4 month old male ESS. They told them he was free. The story they gave was the leg was disclocated and need to be amputated most probably. The "breeder" had not wormed, vaccinated or microchipped him. He had been hand raised, as was not strong enough to fight for his feed. The neighbours took the pup home. After showing him to my sister, they decided they did not, after all, want to take him on and were taking him back to the mill. My sister was upset for the pup and asked for him, of course they promptly offloaded him. After many vet visits, she has adopted a wait and see re the amputation as he is not in pain. She loves him dearly however is limited with funds. However when I visited them with my 15month old ESS, I found the injury most upsetting..his front has developed very wide he has limited use of the bad leg, cannot run properly and the good leg appears to me to be abnormal as well. (this is being x-rayed shortly) I feel the breeder should be reported for abuse, however the neighbours refuse to give any information on where the puppies were obtained. We actively looked for the mill when she first brought him home, without luck, repeatedly hassled the neighbours, spoke with local dog rescues without any luck. There was also a vet involved who did initial X-rays on puppy on behalf of the breeder (this is where amputation was raised). My sister is putting pressure on the vet for information re the breeder. Anyone have any ideas who these people are? or any suggestion on what can be done?

Yes I should be driving her in the car to take a walk, but have been too sick for the last month or so, so have been just standing at the beach, not doing too much walking…was just about fit enough to start walking, but have shingles in the head now..so am way too tired, maybe soon hopefully.

Yes I will be separating them when I am not at home..today had to go to Dr's and left her in the crate with a pigs ear..when I let her out she hadn't eaten the pigs ear, as the intent ion seemed to be to parade it and tease the poor old dog on the special diet who thinks he is being starved. It is a circus at my house at the moment, well it has been a bit of a circus since she came to live with us, but now it is a 3 ringed circus!

It does help, Thank you. My ESS is a show ESS but all the same it must be a trait that is normal. I wish I had your set up. I have cooped her up a bit I am afraid, normally take her to a dog beach each day and this uses her energy up. I will need to keep her on our large back deck and inside the house and only give her supervised breaks in the yard. Will give some thought about what I can do to occupy her, difficult giving her kong and chews at the moment as old dogs suffers from pancreatitis and can't have any treats and the ESS is possessive of her food. Looking forward to her surgery. :D

After researching the best time to desex my ESS pet bitch, I decided to wait till after 1 season. This morning my desexed rescue male let me know she was in season, she is 7.5months. She has been uncontrollable all day..thinks she is starving, running and jumping through the house, barking for attention, barking for food, barking at old desexed dog.barking barking barking!!! She is super super hypo, she is a high energy dog though. Is this normal behaviour? It has been a while since I had a bitch in season, but from my memory, I thought they went quiet. Any suggestions?

Hi there, Haven't been around for a long long time and have been dogless for 3 years after loosing my little Schnauzer...twas broken hearted.I am picking up my new puppy in just over a week, An English Springer Spaniel, very excited. I have a fair bit of experience grooming Cocker Spaniels...however it was way back in the 70's and 80's. At that time we used a comb called Spratts 76, for carding/stripping the coat. I leant mine many years ago and it was never returned, always thought it would be easily replaced but not the case anymore. So I have found a company in the UK - Diamond Edge...however the price is 17 pounds and 38 pounds delivery! Does anyone know where they can be purchased preferably in AU or at least at a more reasonable delivery cost. Any help would be wonderful!

Each day comes and goes and I feel no better, I am unable to talk or think of her without being upset. Right from the beginning when she came to us, every time I was away from her I was frightened and fearful that something would happen to her. I feel I have brought this fate on her, I now believe the strong force that exists in thinking and imagining things can make them happen. I can't get another dog until my circumstance change and I can leave a puppy/dog by itself without imagining the worse, I don't know what it will take to make that happen.

Yes I know it is hard no matter how long you have had them, the what if's are still always there...my little jack that I lost was 10 yrs old that was hard because she was so much a part of me, when she was gone I could still see and hear her, would look for her. Dolly well she was sweet and I feel I have let her down. We have a real estate agent coming around I don't want this house anymore, I can't bring another dog in here ever and one day maybe when I retire and have more time I will get another. I hope that you do enjoy the little time you have left with your girl, hopefully that time will bring you some peace....I will be thinking of you.
