  1. Brennan is not food aggressive, not even with bones. I have watched another dog take her bone from her and she not only lets the dog do it, but she watches the dog eat it with not a shred of aggression. She also is really good at ''leave it'' with food...I can rest assured she will not touch my food if she has been told to leave it.
  2. The only thing that the news segment did for me is make me glad I chose to feed raw :p
  3. I'm glad you were able to re-connect the dog with his owners. My worst fear is my dog going missing. She is microchipped, tattooed and registered and has a tag with my contact details but still the fear is horrible. I think if (heaven forbid) she ever did escape, and I found someone had taken her in and called me I would be overwhelmed with thanks and would be making sure to thank the person.
  4. Sending lots of healing vibes and prayers his way. What a horrible thing to happen to the poor dog
  5. Wow...thank goodness the dog was able to get out.
  6. :D LOL...that is kinda funny....
  7. Brennan puts her front paws into the water bowl, and if allowed she will progress to putting her whole head into the bowl and shaking it around..it is easy to tell when she has been at the water bowl because the water is either dirty or all over the floor. I have a queen sized bed which is just for myself and Brennan likes to sleep on the pillows on the empty side of the bed.
  8. I constantly talk to my dog. I must look like a complete nutter. When we are walking and Brennan is walking nicely you can frequently hear me saying ''Nice walking, this is a nice walk isn't it? We like walking don't we?''. I also tell her what other dog we have seen ie ''Look it's a Beagle...we like Beagles don't we'' And then there are the trips to the pet store where she get's ''What toy do you want bubz? you choose a toy and Mummy will buy it for you'' And training ''good girl, yes you are, you are, you are such a beautiful and cute and clever girl oh yes you are''. But hey, I would rather be thought of as a nutcase for acknowledging my dog as my companion, then the person who walks there dog in silence and treats walking and training their dog as a chore rather then a fun way to spend time with their dog
  9. Thanks I did a bit of reading and found that they were reccomending the 3 year vaccination after the 1st yearly one. So looks like we are definitely getting the first one at least.
  10. I have the only purebred and largest dog on my street too.
  11. I think you should call the local council and report them. If you explain to them that you have tried to speak nicely to the owner, and they have ignored you and this dog is now a danger to himself and others. It is such a shame that there are people like this poor dogs owners who do not care for their pets. Considering the owner so rudely snubbed you and did not thank you for returning her dog-- I will say ''Thank You'. I can only hope that if the unimagineable happened and my dog was in this situation ( by accident) that someone as kind as you would help me.
  12. My friends dog has just been diagnosed with this...here is a link that was provided on his Facebook page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myofascial_pain_syndrome They had him treated the other day with Accupuncture and there vet says that he thinks he can treat it...fingers and paws crossed for your dog
  13. Brennan is due for her yearly vaccination in August. I have always followed the vet's orders such as getting her puppy shots. This will be her first vaccine since puppyhood ( she is almost 15months old). I mentioned on facebook about 'bills coming all at once with vaccinations, dog rego and licence renewal'' and was told that vaccinations are a bad thing. I know some people do not like vaccinations, and some go to holisitic vets. I just want a balanced argument and information. Like anyone I want the best for my dog, and don't want to make choices ill-informed and without balanced arguments. I must admit I do not know much about the argument against vaccinations. Also I had always believed that your dog needed to be up to date on vaccinations in order to enjoy certain things such as agility, and other dog sports. Any suggestions and information would be greatly appreciated. At this stage I still plan to vaccinate. My apologies in advance if I do not get around to replying over the weekend. I am heading to visit my Mum so for the next 2 days my internet access will be limited.
  14. Oh wow..that is disgusting. Thank you for warning us..though apologies you are going through this. Can you contact consumer affairs about them? because this is not on. I had an issue with an ebay seller earlier where a parcel was taking more then the 7 to 14days they had given for it to arrive. I contacted them at 28 days only to be told ''takes time please wait longer'' and made to feel like I was in the wrong. Netherless they got a rating down from me.
  15. Some owners just don't care. We have a house round the corner from mine where the owner's chihuahua has been escaping and going for it''s own walkies every day for the last 5 years. The owner's could not care less.
  16. Well if it's not neighbourhood disputes, hoon driving or deadbeat dads...then what else can they pass off as news?
  17. I hate seeing pups in pet stores, it really tears at me when you see the pets in those little enclosures, and all the people oohing and aahing. Not to mention all the people who fake interest just to hold a cute puppy, or the fact I have seen 2 8week old Siberian Husky pups in one of the tiny enclosures in my local Pets Prison..)(Paradise). I like the idea of rescue and shelter's being connected with pet stores. I actually went to a pet store in Canada where they had a mini shelter in the store. You went into another room and they had approximately 16 cages, and each day the local shelters would bring in a selection of cats and dogs. They also had photo's and animal profiles at in with the store, and computers which were available to enable customers to have a look at some dogs and cats needing homes online.
  18. With me rule number one is; 1) ASK me if you can touch my dog. Do not just approach us with your arms and hands outreached. You don't know my dog, she does not know you. If I were to do that to your baby you would probably be pretty peeved. 2) LISTEN to me when I tell you what not to feed my dog. I have had to tell my own Mum off several times for trying to sneak Brennan some food (namely potato) which is not good for dogs. If I tell you not to give my dog something to eat-- then DON"T. 3) My dog is trained using Positive Reinforcement. If you use different methods of training-- that is fine. But if you EVER think you can use a different method on MY dog then you are kidding yourself. 4) If you come to my house and see my dog inside, or on the couch or on my bed. Do not tell her to get off the couch/bed or go outside. She lives here--You don't.
  19. Thanks guys. I have started making my necessary phone calls today. I will be going with Dogtainers to hire a crate. They will charge me $50 for the hiring of the crate and I pick it up from the airport. The price is a huge factor in my choice to go with them, and also they allow me to take her with me to the airport. I would get nervous having someone else drive her to the airport. Especially since I myself will be going there in my Mum's car it does not make sense.
  20. I <3 Fable...she is just the very definition of cute. She looks like such a gorgeous, spirited pup
  21. I just went to add my 10 cents to the piece and they had locked the thread. Must say though-- there were some brilliant posts made by DOL'ers. I don't like Dr Chris..I don't like they have marketed him as a good looking surfer guy who happens to be a vet-- imo it takes away from the animals and the many issues they face. Must they make a reality show about everything *sighs*
