  4. I thought your video was funny-- you were so funny it made it interesting to watch. Just for the record-- I am ''MyGSDLove'' the one who commented saying it was funny
  5. I saw this video a few months ago and loved it. I just had to share :D It really makes you feel good even after those training set backs
  6. Ohh that poor dog All the best in helping the not-so-little fella lose the weight. Amazing what some owner's think is alright to feed their dogs!.. Eating that amount of lasagne daily wouldn't even be good for an adult human! let alone a small dog. By Lasagne I am assuming you mean human lasagne? Just checking in case there is a brand of dog food I do not know about called ''lasagne'' ( though not holding onto that).
  7. This is a video I made for my channel in response to a video called ''The Apology Video''. The premise of the ''The Apology Video'' is excuses people use when giving up their dog. I decided to take it from another angle. So I made a video which I called ''My Promise'' where I highlighted some of the realities of responsible dog ownership. Essentially it is just my promise to my own dog, the things that she will never have to concern herself with. Also, my way of hopefully speaking to some of the younger n generation. The Apology Video ( Not made by me) ''My Promise'' ( my video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-CZrip9_Is Our Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/MyGSDLove
  8. That was cute-- I loved the ending when they untied the dog's leash
  9. I tried to look but the link did not work for me for some weird reason
  10. Now to put the other side of the picture. In my opinion, if a dog is carried around in a doggy "handbag" then it is receiving lots of love and attention. How do those against this know how these little dogs are treated at home? One could presume they are quite spoilt and probably have more attention and cared for as much if not more so than a whole heap of other dogs who aren't carried around in handbags. There was no inference that these little ones don't get "walkies" or socialisation So .... is carrying your little dog around in a handbag any different than walking your dog on a lead when you are out and about? I can certainly say that each and every one of my little yorkie kids would love to be carried around in a doggy bag - the closer to me the better !! Personally, the actual carrying of the dog in the hand bag is not as big of an issue as the whole mentioning the dogs as accessories. Whilst I prefer the idea that a fit and healthy dog of all sizes can enjoy walking as opposed to the handbag, there are variables we may not know. I have heard of people whose dogs are aging or disabled and they use the carrier bag, or a trailer ( like the bike doggy trailers) to allow the dog to be taken for some fresh air in a different environment. I knew of someone whose 12 year old GSD had lost a leg so she made up a dog trailer similar to a low lying pram and would push the dog for it's walk. So in that respect I feel that we may not always know the reason the dog is not actually walking whilst out in public.
  11. Tell me about it . My Mum owns a Maltese- Shih Tzu ( gorgeous dog and I love her to pieces). Mum got her from a (to quote my Mum) ''responsible and respectable breeder'' ie the mother of one of her former students who breeds DDs My Dad and his wife have 2 Maltese-Shih Tzu's that they got from....Pet's Paradise Still....at least I have managed to convince my Mum that she can get her next dog from the Animal Welfare League, ( as opposed to the 'cute little puppy in the pet store'). It was not easy--I ended up telling her that if she got a pet store puppy I would not speak to her Lucky for me--she eventually listened. I have since promised to go with her to the AWL to help her choose the right dog for her home.
  12. I normally have it on as background noise whilst I am online, it's either that, whatver is on channel 9 or Masterchief which I hate... Here it is as seen on the episode on catch up tv...( you have to sit through a 30 second advert. Even in the ''coming up on the episode'' speech they describe the dogs as ''the latest fashion accessories'' The segment in question is at the 6 minute 24 second mark of the show.. http://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/better-homes-...-16-episode-24/ He really is making them sound like toys.....argh...just because they are a ''toy'' breed does not mean they are toys....
  13. Aww I love the cockatiel one... Brennan was a ''basher'' as in if I bash into everything then eventually I will get it off of me.
  14. Ooh I forgot to say that once the behaviour is learnt ie that it is better to respond to quiet by being quiet you can phase out the need for treats and or the click. Although I still will treat the basic well learnt behaviours ie sit from time to time. Just to reinforce the idea that by offering these behaviours once asked they can get reinforcement in treats...imo keep them guessing from time to time. Putting him from time to time in the back room is not solving anything. It may be a quick fix, but the behaviour is still there. Good luck I think you can definitely do it
  15. First of all that disregard what that dog trainer said. That is just nonsense imo. There are several different methods which can be suggested to stop barking. Depending on what method of training you follow or want to use with your dog will help. Personally I only train using Positive Reinforcement methods so I can only give you advice based on what I have done with my German Shepherd. I keep treats and the clicker by my side, when Brennan barks, I would wait until she stopped barking ( even for a second) and click for that quiet time. Every time she stopped barking I clicked and treated. After a few repetitions I added the word ''quiet'' when I clicked so she learnt to associate the word with treats. She still will start to bark at times...depends on what is around the environment, but now she knows that by not barking ( especially once I have said ''quiet'') she gets treats and that is much better That's only one method, and it's a PR method. I am sure other's will have different suggestions.
  16. Hi... I always find this video is good for some of the common reasons people abandon their dogs. I recently made my response video to this video which I tried to cover some of the realities of dog ownership. It is called ''No Apologies'' because I have made a commitment to my dog hence she will never be one of those ''I'm sorry we are moving'' in shelter dogs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-CZrip9_Is Hopefully you can find some idea's there....
  17. I just watched the pet segment on Better Homes And Gardens. Tonights episode saw Dr Harry talking about ''Handbag dogs''. He focused on the purebreds-Maltese, Chihuahua etc. My rant is not against dogs in handbags (not this time lol) but it is about how Dr Harry finished the segment. His words to finish the segment were how ''Toy dogs were not just for the rich and famous'' and how these ''handbag dogs are the perfect accessory''. That's what has got me annoyed-- the word ''accessory'' dogs are not accessories--they are living creatures and are for life. Accessories are things like shoes and handbags, earrings etc.,..things which are often shoved to the back of the wardrobe once no longer in fashion, or donated to the Salvo's etc.... Didn't help that he opened the segment by mentioning how Paris Hilton has ''handbag'' pets Some one please tell me I am not crazy for finding this whole thing irritating and in poor taste?
  18. Great video I love Dock diving...I would love to try it with Brennan eventually
  19. Signed, thanks for posting that
  20. Brennan only wears a collar for when we are leaving the house. I am home most of the time and she is supervised ands can not escape. For me it was about safety-- I have read too many stories of accidental hangings, dogs teeth being twisted in play. It is one of my rules if a dog comes for a doggy play date that they do not wear any collars.
  21. OMDog It's always hard to hear about animal abuse, but it makes it much harder when the hurt animal is the very same dog breed as my own pride a joy. If I were to say all I wanted to say I would be booted off this forum
