A channel I really like on You Tube is Wallace The Pit Bull. Here is his video where he goes around to meet some Pit Bull owners and to see if they all fit the ''criminal'' stereotype... Also, here is a Facebook group comprising of Pit Bulls that are therapy dogs and try and spread the good word http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pa...29071922?ref=ts Pit Bull supporters who are walking for the cure to Breast cancer http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pa...68821792?ref=ts The Positive Pit Bull http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pa...&ajaxpipe=1 The Pit Bull Placebo http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pa...12243669?ref=ts I absolutely love Bully breeds, and I love nothing more then reading and sharing good news about Pit Bulls and other breeds victimised by BSL

I was reading this topic, and the talk about identifying a Pit Bull made me remember a link I was shown once. This link features 25 purebred dogs, only one is an APBT...it's not that easy to find the one that is the Pit Bull... http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html

I found this link interesting. They give you 25 purebred dogs and one of them is an APBT. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html To find out what breed of dog is which, you need to click on the picture

Bad Week For Irressponisble Dog Owners
Brennan's Mum replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yikes those are some bad experiences.. Hope this week goes better for you -
Thank you. Ultimately we should not be fighting about training methods. We as dog lovers have a greater fight...in BYBers, Puppy mills, Abuse to dogs, and the number of dogs ending up in shelters. That is what we should be focusing on together--Not allowing training methods to seperate us.

It was a picture showing the potential damage caused by these collars and were also followed with some very good articles which provided an alternative point of view. In no way was it intended scaremongering. It was simply to allow the OP to make an informed decision. If some one felt it to be scaremongering then I ''apologise'' although I don't class it as scarmongering and to be called a scaremonger is just rude imo. The story behind the pictures is that it was a dog presented to a vet clinic after misuse of the collar. In my opinion the OP deserves the right to make an informed decision. Whether she chooses one way or another is her choice. However, in this circumstances I have felt slammed for my difference of opinion. Now we can all go on and name people based on what training methods they use..and our own personal opinions. But end of day I do not apologise for being a Positive trainer, and I do not expect other's to apologise for choosing alternative methods. . The one thing I expect as a forum user, is if I ask advice that I get opinions and links to all sides of thought. Be it training methods, or diet..when it comes to my dog I like to make an informed choice. I previously had to ask for opinions on switching my dogs diet..I got links for and against raw diet which ultimately meant I was able to make the right choice for my dog and myself. That is all I had tried to do here. I ended up feeling like I had no right to offer my suggestions and advice because they did not fit in with the majority of people.

No I do not have them confused. Both the remote training collar and the anti bark collars are aversive methods. With the anti bark collar there is no guarantee that the dog will associate the shocks or the spray with the barking. Whilst hypothetically they should, there is still no guarantee. i really disagree with what you have said here. all training tools have their place and in some cases the tools you have mentioned are the only thing between keeping a dog and it being pts. any tool can be misused that is why it is imperative that any tool is used correctly and with the assistance of a trainer or behaviouralist. True it is that any tool can be misused even a basic flat collar. However I think that it is important that someone researches both arguments before making a decision to use select tools. It is ultimately important that the OP is presented with options that will allow her to hopefully do some further research and make an informed decision based on her needs. End of the day it's to each their own...I just thought it is important that the OP gets a variety of opinions and information. I am a Purely Positive trainer. no kiddin, i wouldn't have guessed. you cannot be irresponsible and scaremongering when people are genuinely looking for solutions. Now that is a bit rude. I have not been trying to ''scare monger'' and I have certainly not been irresponsible. All I did was try to share some articles so that the OP could make an INFORMED decision. I saw a lot of people suggesting the Collars, and felt that the OP should make a well rounded decision. So for you to call me a ''scare monger'' or irresponsible I find INCREDIBLY RUDE. Why is that? because you do not support my methods and yet you are defensive because you feel I have ''attacked'' your methods? Tell me, if you were considering a training device for your dog would you want to get information on the pro's and con's of all devices? or would you prefer to go based on majority rules.

That poor Maltese... However it does still imo fall under the good ole' ''Punish the deed not the breed''.

A correctly used collar will not inflict injuries like this. A well fitted correctly used collar is a far better alternative than a dead dog. The trouble is, it's not just the risk of the physical damage done to the dog, but also the pyschological damage. There is no guarantee that the dog will associate the shock with the behaviour it is meant to be modifying ie barking. http://www.apbc.org.uk/articles/shockcollars http://www.dogsportmagazine.com/?p=436 http://www.hollysden.com/say-no-to-shock-collars.htm

I would look into either the enclosed run, the possibility of crating while you are out, or a behaviourist. Please do not consider the Anti bark or shock collars without doing your research. They can cause a lot of damage and you run the risk of doing more harm then good to your dog http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/ph...id=135249950615 The other option is to look online for dog walkers. Depending on where you are, there are people who will come to your house and walk your dog during the day. Do you have a friend or family member who could be able to walk your dogs? Before I got my own dog I used to go to my friends house and walk his dog during the day. I would end up taking his dog back to my place for a play in the yard and dropped the dog home before my friend got home.. Good luck with it though, my worst fear is people poisoning my dog.

Forgive my naivety with this forum and all it's ins and outs...I have seen the name ''Jed'' mentioned quite a bit, including the auctions. I have tried looking to find out about Jed but am not having much luck. My apologies if this question is not appropriate

A friend of mine on Facebook posted this earlier today which I thought is worth sharing. I am always keen to share anything that can dispel BSL and the myth of the ''bad'' Pit Bull or Bully breeds. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/372417/2270286
