A Nice Suprise For Quarantine Dogs
Brennan's Mum replied to RallyValley's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've ordered a few toys and books but so far nothing has been opened by Customs -
Alright I am officially confused. This thread get's more and more confusing by the minute

Agree with Stormie

Brennan came to me for million reasons. I think the biggest one she has taught me is that we are never truly alone in this world, that no matter how lonely you feel...you can always find friends by being true to yourself.

Wow. I am sorry, but I can not believe that you would put a clinic over your dogs health. I know a lot of farmers who have working dogs first and pets second, but even they would realise the need to have the dog looked at by a vet. I have seen this thread as a lot of people showed they cared for your dog and tried to reason with you to take her to the vets. I saw when you posted and swore at those who had tried to suggest you take her to the vets ( before you edited it). I am truly puzzled now... I truly hope your dog is okay and that she gets to the vet's asap.

I Want To Start Working With Dogs?
Brennan's Mum replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think it's unrealistic to want to work with dogs. There are many ways to work with dogs depending on your interest. I was in the same position last year..I realised I wanted to spend my life working with dogs. I have been really lucky in getting the opportunity to volunteer with a brilliant Positive Reinforcement trainer in Brisbane . This all came out of Facebook...earlier in the year Danielle and I became Facebook friends thanks to having many mutual friends ( a large group of PR trainer's are on Facebook and all friend each other to share idea's etc). Danielle quickly became some one who gave me great advice and we get along well. I mentioned to Danielle that I want to learn to become a PR trainer first and foremost to increase my knowledge and help me with my dog, but also if a career came out of it that's a bonus. Anyway a few months ago after a few hints here and there she said to me about making the move to Brisbane to volunteer and learn from her. Of course it will only be a volunteer role to start off with and will see how I go as to whether I become a paid worker. However I am thrilled I just want to get the chance to be around some one who is an award winning trainer and to learn from her and her colleagues. So as far as the tasks I will be doing...I really don't care..I'm just happy to have the chance I should probably point out that this has really been a luck of the draw thing for me, thanks in part to getting to know some one willing to allow me to tag along and learn from her. It's not without sacrifices though. To do this I will be leaving my hometown of Adelaide and moving to Brisbane which is going to cost me a lot of money, as well as be a huge change. But I really suggest volunteering and courses. Be prepared to volunteer for anything, even if it is not 'ideal' and consider the fact that you may need to relocate to increase your chances. -
Mine only have to cough or hold their head to the side for a second and we're down there Lol..I am lucky--Brennan's breeder only lives 5 minute drive away...all I can say is she has been great-- especially when Brennan got a contact rash at 12 weeks old ( which I discovered at 7pm ( and yes I spent most of the night on the phone to my mum, the emergency vets, the breeder and a friend)

Yep I would like to take Brennan, but she may not cope with it ( she is reactive) and I don't want to risk placing her in that situation with a lot of new dogs on leads and noise/ people yet.

I am just confused why you would be worried about the vet thinking you are an idiot? I once took my dog into the vet because she had been limping on and off during the afternoon ( resulting in bed rest). I got her to the vet and a quick check showed that she had a grass seed under her rear paw pad Sure it cost me $50 for a check up to reveal that nothing major was wrong, ..but the peace of mind was priceless . When it comes to my dog and her health..I would prefer to be viewed as an idiot for worrying then not worrying enough.

Aww...these pictures are so cute

Just wondering if any Adelaide DOLer's have been to a Open Day before? There is one coming up in September which looks interesting... http://www.dogssa.com.au/Website/index.php?id=53&level=2

Some one shared this a few weeks ago and I thought I would share here

I have a friend who lives in Switzerland and he takes his dog on the train to work ( and no it's not a service dog)...could you imagine catching the train to work with your dog?

I ditto the suggestion for Pet insurance. There are a few around so it pays to check them all out

OMG gorgeous

I use an Organic shampoo which is free from Sodium Laurel-Sulfate which I get from the health store. Although the smell can be down to teeth and diet ( and other things) like PoodleFan said

Monthly Expenses For Larger Breeds...
Brennan's Mum replied to Nadine83's topic in General Dog Discussion
I feign ignorance too...and I only have the one -
I found this link by doing a google search. The guy is an Aussie..and he says that even if the person sticks their hand through the fence of your property, or enter's your property you can still be liable for any bites. I would double check that though...maybe make a phone call to the local council or DogsQld. !

Thanks for the feedback...I guess I just have this image of driving a wagon to be like driving a boat lol. My last car was a 94 Subaru Liberty LX sedan and it was a good car. However given that I will be volunteering with a trainer and will need to cart around a lot of dog junk..the wagon may be the better option.

I am moving to Brisbane in December and will be looking for a car. I have been without a car for the last 5 years, however I find it is getting harder to live without a car ( especially with a dog to care for and transport). I will be looking at a used car which would fit my budget better and what I can afford. I want a car which will fit 1 ( possibly 2) adult GSDs as well as passenger/s comfortably. I want a decent sized boot to cart around shopping and dog stuff to training etc. I would prefer a car with decent petrol consumption. I like Ford Laser ( the sedan type ones) but am not sure if it will be big enough I also like Mitsubishi Lancer's and Magna's. I am not sure about a SUV or Station wagon, I haven't driven either of them before and am nervous about handling a SUV or Wagon in a new city... Any suggestions of good doggy cars?

I would take the dog to the vet's to get checked out as soon as possible. Until I got the okay from a vet who has thoroughly checked the dog out I would not even be considering the clinic.

Can't wait for the puppy pics.
