I've never heard of him...but what a clueless moron : His training 'tips' should come with a warning not to adhere to. If you did happen to burn all those books..I would have donated money to cover the costs the shopkeepers would hit you with ;-)

Brennan can not care less for TV or TV dogs. My friends Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will bark at 'the puppies' on TV and also the Cats too.

If by Breed snobs you mean people who hate to see wonderful dog breeds being bred and 'created' then sold for more money then necessary. Or do you mean people who are strongly opposed to backyard breeders who sell lies to unsuspecting people ''xxx is healthier then x because the breeding rules them out'' etc. So yes on a Purebred forum we do like to discuss purebred dogs ( and cross bred dogs are referred to as cross bred rather then a fancy name). Although that said, I think a fair few of us growing up would have owned a cross breed dog. Heck the dog which inspired my love of German Shepherds was a GSD x Kelpie my parents rescued from a pound before I was born. So just because we own pure bred dogs and advocate purchasing purebred dogs from reputable breeders does not mean we have not loved a cross bred dog. I think the main issue comes from people selling these cross breed dogs with a fancy name and false promises for higher prices then they are worth. My friend has a Labrador x Kelpie x Curly Coat Retriever..it was an oops litter and he paid $50 for the dog. The dog is a wonderful dog, well trained, and for the love she has brought him is invaluable. However...she is not one breed, and calling her a fancy name in order to sell her for a higher price would have been wrong in my opinion.

Well one of the rules on this forum is that you call the dog by their name ie Poodle x Spaniel or Poodle cross ''This site was created for pure bred dog discussion The primary purpose of this forum is to promote and discuss pure bred dogs (as recognised by the ANKC) so we ask you respect our aim when visiting here. If you own a cross breed dog, you are also welcome here, but we ask that you refer to it by it's proper name (eg a pug-x or cavalier-x instead of the designer term 'pugalier'). Please do not start threads asking what breeds people think make up your cross-bred dog or to express your outrage at the latest designer dog you saw. We prefer to concentrate our discussion on the pure bred dog (ANKC recognised). ''

Agree with other posters about the jogging. I think he had a right to be mad...take it as a learning experience and you now know what you need to work on with your dog As for situation 3- you did the right thing reporting to council. That is why I avoid dog parks..you can't control who comes in and how trained their dogs are
-
You are perpetuating the incorrect belief that "spoodles" are a real breed. You should make the effort to explain to people they crossbreeds. x2 I don't bother calling my staffy/norfolk mix a "Staffolk," I just say "he's a staffy cross." x3. I normally correct people anyway case in point the other day I met some one with a Labrador x Poodle and they called it by the 'fancy DD name' and I responded with ''Oh that's a Labrador x Poodle Other wise I call the real Mutt's which are real bitzer's I call them ''Heinz 57 Mutt'' and say that they have a lot of breeds in them

Judge's Behaviour On Video?
Brennan's Mum replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ahh okay..see I was fairly certain that this would not be acceptable, but my only experience in watching shows has been with big dogs like German Shepherds. It's just a shame for the poor dog. I had heard a rumour she had been pulled up on this behaviour..but gee it's not good. -
A friend posted this video on her Facebook, and to be honest it left me horrified. It is the behaviour of a judge and the way she handles a dog at a show in Spain. Not being familiar with showing, I thought I may post it here to see whether it is 'not normal'/ 'abusive' or whether it is part of the norm, and I am just reacting based on being unfamiliar with the showing worl ( particularly the showing of smaller breeds). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRyREk20v7w...layer_embedded#! Personally I find this behaviour by the judge horrific, the poor dog looks completely and utterly scared

What a lovely message to share So glad to hear that you found a trainer/behaviourist who could help you to work with your dog and bring out the best in you and your dog. K9Pro is certainly a popular man, and seems to have a lot of happy students Good work K9Pro and Baby Dragon

What Questions Do You Have About Clicker Training?
Brennan's Mum replied to Paul Bright's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am confused There are many trainers on here who use various methods ( including Positive Reinforcement methods) and that use the clicker. I, myself volunteer with a Positive Reinforcement Trainer who uses the clicker, and have been training only with Positive Reinforcement and using the clicker since I got my dog as a pup. I would also like to know your qualifications as well. What makes you qualified to become the ''go to'' person for Clicker training? surely you could just participate in threads about using the clicker? ETA- I just looked at your website, again, you are advertising this product, but you have listed no qualifications, no study or career history. I'm confused. What makes you more qualified or a better person to educate about using the Clicker to train then some one like Karen Pryor, ( whose qualifications are easily found). Sorry, but it comes across as a scam to me. -
Oh my gosh, most of these photo's are just so cute ( despite the mud)

Ohh my goodness. Parkeyre, no fair, that picture is too cute--no way you could not melt at that cute little face

My house mate and I are currently dog sitting a friends Border Collie for the week. Earlier this evening, Michelle went downstairs to feed him. When she could not find him, she followed the noise. Sure enough, our dear house guest had enjoyed himself digging a huge hole by the fence between us and our neighbours. He was covered head to toe in mud, and has since managed to share the mud with both me and Michelle ( who got the worst of it). Am just starting to cool down, will get a start on the clean up in a bit. Believe it or not, in this picture he is much cleaner The feet The verandah which I am about to get started on cleaning So now I want to see your dirty dog photo's

Maybe Ruger or ........ should refrain from putting her child through Music lessons. Growing up it was common practice the Piano and guitar teacher asked for hands to be washed prior to touching the instrument.
-
It's funny..to me it almost came across like Ruger got pi$$ed off with her child being asked if he had clean hands, so she decided to use this thread to have a go at all of us who dare love and work with dogs? Kinda like payback Meh I just found it highly amusing..made for a good read on Sunday and Monday

Fingers crossed for you. I was just looking at pictures of them last night, part of my trying to get familiar with dog breeds that you do not hear of as much. Interesting looking dogs. I hope all works out for you
-
Well this topic has become very entertaining I especially like the bit where we were all called child haters, and having it suggested that a child who is not mine is more important to me then my own dog I have no problem refusing people touching my dog but then again I am apparently a child hater
-
Count me in. Irresponsible owners are a ( pardon the pun) pet hate of mine
-
Great outcome Sound like they are great neighbours to have.

The other thing you can do is approach the neighbours from the point of view that you are worried the dogs barking will annoy them. Maybe just say ''I am concerned because my dogs seem to bark whenever your children are on the trampoline, I am looking at a way I can teach them to not bark, but in the mean time, I do apologise for the noise.'' IMO Something to that effect is polite, kind of explains the problem ( dog barking) and the cause ( kids on trampoline). Also makes you look like a polite neighbour who is looking to keep the peace...and who knows..the neighbours may even suggest they move the trampoline them selves. I had to do something recently, since I have moved to a new house, the fence here in Brisbane is a wooden fence and Brennan can see through into the neighbours yard when their Rottweiler is down in the yard and she barks. The other day I heard her barking went outside to bring her inside and saw the neighbour. I said hello, and apologised and said I was working with Brennan on it, and as it turns out my neighbours are really really nice, and did not have a problem . This turned out really well for me because; A) I now know my neighbours and they are lovely, and B) The neighbours realise that I am working with my dog and I am keen to ensure my dog does not disturb the peace.

Wow....interesting how this thread has gone... I don't know how the set up of your home and property is, but if you have a suitable gate/fence protecting the front yard maybe the dog can go in there when the kids are out? Otherwise it may be worth taking note of the ages of the kids and trying to work around times when they are not outside. For instance school aged children will likely not be on the trampoline between 8-3:30 Monday to Friday. Other wise you could try counter conditioning your dog to the sight and noise of the children? make it a positive thing such as the children come out for a play-- your dog gets something they really like be it treats/ kong/ toy/ cuddles etc.

Hot Weather And Keeping Dogs Outside
Brennan's Mum replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Brennan gets to lie on the verandah which is enclosed as the entrance to the house. She has her crate with a fan, a large water bowl, ice cubes in the water and a clam shell pool for morning and late afternoon when the weather cools down. If it is too hot during the day she gets crated most of the day with the fan on, and will be taken out for a walk and a run during the afternoon or evening.
