Rescue Near Gladstone Qld
Little Gifts replied to k9's-mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Best Friends Rescue (BFR) is located in south east queensland but started out as a staffy rescue. They could be worth contacting to see if with some transport options the dogs can be brought down this way. The group desexes before rehoming and has a fairly high rehome rate at present, including with a lot of staffords. You will find them on Facebook and they have a website with details about surrendering and their email and phone contact details. My advice if she loves the dogs is to first get a behaviouralist in to see what can be done to settle them into their new environment. It may not cost her an arm and a leg as she thinks. Next, if she rehomes locally PLEASE make sure she desexes her girls first. Some councils and vets run cheaper desexing programs so again, it doesn't have to cost a lot. -

You big sooky-la-la! What are you going to be like when she starts her first day at school???? Only joking.... she'll probably need her mum tonight so you'll get to fuss over her lots. -
Remember This Boy From Griffith ?
Little Gifts replied to ninahartland's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh that made me cry! Such a beautiful boy - he did not deserve what happened to him before he got his forever home. Totally unacceptable. I hope he gets to the stage where he forgets his past and just enjoys his future. Alfie suits him too! -
How Cute Are These?
Little Gifts replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I've read about that calcium issue in the breeders threads. Seems kind of commonish. Imagine how horrible it would be thinking the mother was going to eat them all! Pregnant Paws sounds like a great initiative too - it should impact on inappropriate dumping of small pups and their mums and it certainly gives the pups a much better opportunity to find good homes. Plus mum goes back to where she came from desexed! What's not to love about the idea! Please keep up the pics T - I've been feeling a bit forlorn about the lack of puppy pics of late! -
Very funny!!!

The only dog I never gave silly nicknames to was one I chose from a breeder named from when she first came home as a pup. She was Phobie and sometimes got Phobes. All the others (bar my heart girl) have been rescues that came with names which I invariably extend in to silliness. One dog came equally to the names Hey Dog, Gordon and Ian which was very strange! My heart girl came nameless and named herself. Stussy was the only name she'd respond to (offered up by a friend) and it was not even remotely on my list of girly names I wanted her to have. I generally call her Smooshus or Smooshalicious. I think it is just the Sssss sound and tone that attracts her attention. When I give her commands though I only ever use her proper name like "Stussy come!" so there is no confusion about what I want her to do.

Why I Love My Dog Even More...
Little Gifts replied to kitkatswing's topic in General Dog Discussion
My girl knows when I'm struggling and just snuggles up next to me for as long as it takes me to get out of bed again and face the world. There was a time when I wasn't doing so well when she was still quite young and she'd bring me her favourite toy and just lay it on my chest. Dogs really are magical creatures. I'm glad Maui is there with you during this awful time. -
I bought babies/kids socks with the grip dots on them for my old girl as she was bending her toes under. One of the rescue people suggested taping them on with some stuff I got from the chemist that comes off easy. A little hair would come with them but not much. If you sew you could try putting some elastic in them or velcro the tops. My girl tolerated them with the tape. She's gone now but I've kept the socks as a memory of her because they were bright pink and I know she hated being dressed up in any way!

I'm with you. If I had the option I'd fill it with grey muzzles..... -
I wonder if there is a DOL type website out there for these 'caring' puppy farmers that helps them share these fantastic mass breeding ideas? Oh I'd like to have a read of that and see what they tell themselves! I notice there was no mention of the vet that must always be on hand to help with managing pregnant bitches, whelping, vaccinating the pups and the like given their core business can be a life and death thing. Yes I'm sure their dogs are regularly health assessed to see if they are up to the breeding task and if the pups are healthy enough for those long international flights! And I'm sure they have a range of top quality ancilliary services they work with like groomers and behaviouralists given their clear focus on the dogs. Oh yes I'm sure they're very proud of the only great homes their pups go to because they have nothing to hide at all! Think I might just take a holiday to Tassie and see if they offer a B & B service as well. It sounds like such a lovely place!

Please Don't Bite My Head Off
Little Gifts replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
In this category I would put that bully boy a Sydney rescue group took on last year who had been burnt. They were asking for money to assist with his vet care and ongoing recovery. I think if you were a group that had successfully rehabilitated and rehomed a damaged dog previously it would give you the inclination to keep taking on the harder cases. It might become like your niche. But the risk is that funds could dry up and you have taken on a dog you can't afford. Poor dog. I don't mind donating for dogs with extra needs as long as I can see the group is able to manage what they take on and that these dogs are rehomed rather than languishing in foster care with no chance of a suitable home or even worse that they have poor quality of life as a result of their health or behavioural issues. I also think I'm one of those people who would be willing to adopt a special needs/high cost dog and there are probably other people like me out there. And I applaud rescue groups who choose to go the other way and save more dogs for the same money. I really think there is a place in rescue for both approaches. -
Awesome Rehome Today!
Little Gifts replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That's very special. I always love to see how litter mates look and Persia and Pickles look very similar to me Persia seems to have a smoother coat and be a bit bigger? And I bet you went home and said to Pickles "Guess who I met today?" Pickles of course thought she heard "Burger Rings!" and got all excited.... -
Revealed: The 5 Most Dangerous Dogs
Little Gifts replied to Red Fox's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was scared to come into this thread thinking oh Dog, SBTs are probably in there! Of course I was also relieved to find that 'Nosy Dog' didn't make the top 5 as I have one of those here and it can be very problematic! -
Oh Rozzie that is so sad. I'm sorry you lost your big fella but thank you for giving him a wonderful new life. Alyson xxx

Vet Pleads For Landlords To Welcome Pets
Little Gifts replied to Blonde_Phoenix's topic in In The News
I don't think all properties make good rentals whether there are dogs, kids or not. Timber floors will get scratched, pristine white walls will get marks and originally restored timberwork, leadlighting glass, marble kitchen bench and hard to find tiles might get damaged by accident even by the most fastideous of tenants. I have been renovating my house and I know there is no point trying to keep the timber floors from getting scratched or worrying about my lovely coloured walls being covered with dog goo. I also learnt the hard way about what colour carpet not to get! When I was younger I had either cats or dogs at every rental I lived in without any problems because the places were generally old houses done up to be rentals. They were created with wear and tear in mind. If you do up a place you need to decide to do it for either rental purposes or resale. I don't think you can have both unless you are re-selling it as a rental. Don't put your heart and soul into a house and expect anyone else to treat it as you would. Even your family wont live up to the same standards. And I don't understand the whole flea issue - I have never had a flea issue in any of my accom. Maybe I've been lucky but why would you want your dirty and flea riddled pet snuggled up with you on the lounge? Surely keeping it clean is about more than landlord issues anyway? -
I'm not a breeder but from my experience with SBTs in rescue his ears are too big, his snout is too long and I don't think I've ever seen those kind of face colours/markings in a pure bed stafford. As long as you love him it doesn't matter whether he is pure bred or not. He doesn't know what he's 'supposed' to look like! He looks like a happy boy!

Do Other Pets Mourn
Little Gifts replied to sterlingsilver's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
My old girl that passed last year was the only dog I have ever had who seemed to feel the loss of another household dog and grieve. She was always the type of dog who felt more comfortable in a pack environment and experienced the loss of three dogs over the years. The worst was when she was 13 I lost her son and she aged overnight from it as she was then the only dog in our house. A rescue pup came my way only 6 weeks later and she devoted herself to mothering and teaching it so the pup stayed (and became my first ever heart dog!). She had purpose again I guess. Anyway she lived then for almost another 4 years and was very active right until the end. After she went though the other two dogs here now didn't seem to worry in the slightest! Fickle.... -
Foster Pup Rosalie - Now Willow!
Little Gifts replied to MavericksMission's topic in General Dog Discussion
It looked like you'd already bought her lots of pink girly things so no-one here is surprised she's staying. She really is the most gorgeous thing! -
I remember that thread about some people not liking black dogs but how shiny and beautiful are your bubs! How could you not love them! FM is this the first litter you have bred or just Charm's first? I'd be wanting frenchie puppies all the time because they are so freaking cute! Couldn't give them to anyone else though. Well maybe tdierikx could have a fawn one if she promises to bring it back for visits....

Do You Trust People Your Dog Dosent Like?
Little Gifts replied to jess live die's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our dogs seem to be good judges of character and we follow their advice about strangers to our front door or new people we invite in to our lives. In particular they seem to know if a new boyf is a dud. They simply stop bothering to waste their time on them and not long after we realise we should be doing the same! My sister's dog is in the habit of closely monitoring tradesmen. She watches them like a hawk and it doesn't matter how they try and befriend her she wont have it! If they do their job quickly and well they get to leave in tact. If not then they only have themselves to blame! -

She could make a fortune as a doggy model - she's got it all in the good looks department! -
*facepalm* She sounds just.. bat-sh*t crazy. What theraputic reasons is there to put trousers on a kangaroo? What condition that a kangaroo might suffer require trousers? Pantlessitis? And the rest.. well, she just sounds paranoid and delusional. Perhaps Irwin chafes easily? Sorry, couldn't help myself. This is wrong on so many levels - I can't even believe the council created an ordinance so she could keep him! And how is she going to manage him when he hits that 50kg mark? The human race scares and astounds me daily...
