  1. I took some pics last night so will check out and see if there is a general winners thread and put them in there. Great win!
  2. Staffyluv how does Ziggy go after the foster dogs leave? My SBT girl is very involved with her first ever foster sibling and adores him. They have a mutual love fest really. I didn't think she'd be so attached to him but even seperating them for walks or outings causes angst (in both parties) already. Do you have to do anything special with Ziggy when his new buddies leave him? I hadn't even thought of this being an issue.
  3. I used to meditate in the backyard - complete with a fat, hairy arse sitting on my crossed legs! I always knew I was in the zone though when I could ignore the bad breathed, attention seeking kisses....
  4. My old SBT used to snaffle my used ear plugs if I left them lying around or if they fell out during the night. So my back yard would often be dotted with fluoro yellow or orange surprises she'd pooped out! I only wore them because she snored so badly. Obviously ear wax is YUM!
  5. Yep, the person we got in was the best money I ever spent because they give you knowledge which you can use for other dogs. Ours cost $200 but that was about 3 years ago and she was new at it so charged less but she was oh so good. Holly's mummy I could donate a minimum of $50 towards engaging one if that helps as my fundraisers are still running at and I have nothing committed to anyone else at present. Are there any large rescue groups in your area who you could contact to ask who they use? You might be able to get rescue rates.
  6. Fantastic news Keiko! Do you know if Best Friends Rescue and Little Paws Kitten Rescue are already linked in? If not I can pass the word on to them. Also Australian Working Dog Rescue Inc don't seem to be on DOL of late but would be interested, so again, if Di from AWDRI isn't on your list of rescue groups you already deal with let me know and I'll pass the info on to her.
  7. How is CB going Teekay? Anything come out of the adoption enquiries?
  8. Very sorry for your sad loss Vince. It is so hard to lose the special ones. RIP bubby girl.
  9. Some naughty boy busted open the front screen door and the gate on the front verandah this morning and was doing a runner to dog knows where! He got to the stairs though and froze up into a statue so I was able to grab him. He tried it again tonight. Unfortunately the dogs have broken the top hinge on the front screen door and it is awaiting repairs so we will have to keep the front timber door shut at all times now till it is fixed. You have to wonder what happens to dogs even as young as Clancy before they come to rescue because I pulled out a belt to put on my jeans last Friday morning and he went into a total panic over it. Usually I can give him things to sniff when is acts nervous and he settles but this time he was too terrified. I can't bare to think someone may have beat him with one.
  10. I'm so sorry Biafra. what a beautiful old girl!
  11. Just breaks your heart. Sorry Cathy. RIP little man.
  12. Some of those photos are beautiful! They really show the girls' personalities!
  13. I think a deaf puppy would go brilliantly with a three legged one!
  14. My sister reminded me that Germany has bad luck with their famous animals. The had the Oracle Octopus and the polar bear whose name escapes me right now. Both are now deceased. Maybe they should give up on the idea. I'm not sure an earless bunny was even something to promote?
  15. I had a really active SBT - always jumping, twisting and running. He had a lot of anxiety as well and never really rested - always on the alert and on his feet if I moved. When he was around 10 I started giving him morning massages while he was still a little sleepy, mainly to keep him relaxed him. I started the same with his mother who was 11. He was PTS from an injury a couple of years later and his mum was PTS shy of her 17th birthday. Neither had any age related arthritis or joint issues but the old girl developed some nerve problems in the last 6 months or so. I really believe the morning massages kind of warmed up their bodies, stretched their muscles and loosened things before they started their busy day. A bit like athletes warm up before they exercise. Can't prove it medically but I've continued the process with all the dogs I have had since then, including my current foster boy. The massages have helped him develop trust in us as he was hand shy and very nervous of unknown things. We do his at night as that is when he is most sleepy. So it has several benefits, plus it doesn't cost anything and the dogs don't say no! And my sister moved in with me 4 years ago and when her husky/shep cross lets me I massage her as well. At 8 she is showing no joint issues for a large and active dog. She is still doing zoomies with the younger two, bouncing off the furniture and flying over the stairs. Again I don't know if the massaging has helped her but it certainly hasn't hurt. I figure dogs must get a bit achy just like us at times from over exertion? Good luck with Penny. The oldies are precious!
  16. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-16/celebrity-rabbit-squashed-to-death/3893558 Did anyone else see the irony in this? If it had ears it would've heard the cameraman. And I know this makes me seem so evil but I kept picturing the cameraman as Mr Bean going "Oh dear" and slinking quickly away from the scene of the crime. The whole situation was just so absurd it would make a terrible comedy scene in a movie.
  17. Ams I was hoping it might even be possible for me to bring him out to see you next month if all goes well with his training. Noisy Mina has given me two good, large size dog mattresses with covers, several larger dog coats, loads of towels, a tin bowl and some buckets, plus I have those rope tug toys and replacement bed covers (if the sizes suit any of your frames) and you can have any of it for your rescue kids that you need. Anything you don't need I'll pass on to BFR because I've also got stuffed toys for them that were already promised (more suited to smaller dogs). So if I come out I can just bring it all with me and take home anything not useful. And of course you are free to visit here anytime as well! You'll be able to see better than us how much he has grown. I'm sure he will go all silly when he sees you again!
