  1. Yay congrats BF!!! I've been looking at lots of puppy toys too, I love those Kong wubba toys, but they seem so expensive, even on ebay - what's a good price for one and where?
  2. you can section off the fabric ones - we only got the wire crate this year with the new pup - Mortimer the older boy had a fabric K9 one since he came home in 2008 - all we did was pack the back half of the crate with old blankets/towels from the linen cupboard and then cut a piece of MDF to the same shape as the crate inside and put that up - we didn't have a chewer which is why the fabric crate was fine and we used the same piece of MDF for Archie this year when he came home - also not a chewer and now he is toilet trained at 15 weeks we removed the MDF insert and gave him the full run of the crate at night You can buy crate covers or just drape some nice fabric over the crate to make it look better - trust me once you add a nice bed to the base, some soft toys and a cute puppy, the whole prison appearance disappears puppy should arrive at the airport in a crate (it will look different to the soft crates or the wire ones) it depends on whether or not you've paid for the crate as part of your shipping cost or whether or not it has been rented or owned by the breeder - have a chat to them and see what they say - but it will be a small crate rather than a big one if it is for shipping a puppy .... Poppy - she is just beautiful! Fiona - thanks for the advice! I think we'll go the wire crate, just incase she is a chewer!
  3. Very exciting Poppy, and VERY jealous!!!! Can't wait to see the pics, glad she arrived safely!
  4. Thanks BF and Fiona, You've made some good points! I think perhaps I might get the adult size crate, so that I can keep it for whatever reason might come up! I guess I'll have t get a wire crate then, and get a divider for the first part! I was looking at the fabric crates on Vebo, at they looked much more homely, but I don't think you are able to section them off? Me and my OH just need to get used to the idea that it is a safe/happy place, rather than a prison like it looks! - That's why we liked the fabric ones better. Maybe we'll just get one of the 'pretty' covers for the wire crate to make it look a little happier! Also, do you guys have any idea what my pup might travel in on the plane? Because if that's a crate, does that mean you keep it, or does it stay with the airline? I have no idea as yet what airline/freight company she is coming on.
  5. OK, so more questions on the crate. I'm just wondering for those who have crate trained... did you just use it through the puppy phase? Because I'm thinking once Maggie is house trained, I'll probably get her to sleep on a dog bed rather than the crate? Or once you start up the crate, do you keep it up forever?! I'm only wondering because, if I just use the crate to toilet train Maggie, hopefully that won't take too long - and in saying that I wont need the XL crate (which is for a fully grown GR). So I'm wondering if I should buy a smaller crate, so that I don't have to buy the XL crate and section it off for her puppy sized body!? Does this make any sense?!! haha It's hard to explain, but I hope you know what I'm getting at!
  6. I'd suggest buying the size she will fit into when she is an adult - otherwise you'll be wasting money when she grows out of one and you'll need to buy another - you can always section off the crate when she is little to reduce the amount of space she has access to .... If you check online at the different options many will identify the breed that they suit .... my favourite ones are for a softcrate http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/K9-SoftDogC...s__W0QQ_armrsZ1 (the seller is a Dol'er and is very very fabulous at helping you find just the right size!) For a wire crate http://shop.vebopet.com.au/store/dogs/ I have GSP's and both my boys have a 48 inch wire collapsible metal crate (XXL) as this can fit both of them easily in it and for sleeping the boys have a XL K9 softcrate each (thats the size thats also recommended for Goldens as well my youngest boy is only 16 weeks old and he loves his crate - both boys do, we crate trained both since we got them home .... You are a star Fiona! I'll look into those two links. I'm thinking the wire crate will be best, as I've heard that pups can sometimes chew through the soft ones? Three weeks exactly today!
  7. I've been reading through some of the crate training threads, and it sounds like a great idea for toilet training! What size do you think would be best for Maggie? She will be a 10 week old Golden Retriever when we get her, but we obviously want it to last her a while. Any ideas? :D
  8. haha I accidently posted in here, when I should have been on the "Waiting for a puppy thread!" but that's ok, you guys haven't bagged me yet! It was my first post! Anywho, here are the pics!
  9. sounds good we shouldnt b to far from each other lol i find out in 4 weeks wen the pups are due Sorry Poppy, you've probably said this previously, but where is your pup travelling to/from? I worry about my girl travelling in a few weeks from Sydney to Adelaide! But yours sounds quite a bit longer!!!
  10. That is so terrible. I am still terrified that is going to happen to me :D We've paid our deposit, so hopefully all good.
  11. Hi Everyone, My husband and I have been on the waiting listing for a Golden Retriever puppy for a little while, and we found out on Friday that there was a cancellation and we could have a little girl pup sooner than expected. We are getting her at 10 weeks old. We had to ask the breeder to old onto her for an extra two weeks as we are going on holiday. She is coming on a plane from Sydney to Adelaide on the 8th of April. We are so thrilled, we can't wait to meet Maggie!
