2 Part Question,i Need To Vent So Badly Lol
feistylady replied to The 3 Musketeers's topic in General Dog Discussion
Absolutely agree and good idea about taking photos although one has to be very careful these days when taking photos of others due to the privacy laws -
My daughter suggested I watch the programme to learn something about raising puppies as I am looking at buying one and as I have not had a puppy in 15 years I thought yes good idea Watching and remember I am just an average person seeking to buy and train I thought wow haven't times changed since I last had undertaken this job, locking a newly born puppy first night home in a bathroom let alone the posh bathrooms what a joke and using the old phrase in my day we tended the puppy through the night no different to a first night home human baby in my books and I always used a ticking clock supposed to be somewhat similar to its mothers heart beat? I would take outside to toilet train every couple of hours and of course the newspaper on the floor of my laundry at all other times. Not allowed in the kitchen at meal times as a pup and as a mature dog only if there were no issues of begging for food. I cannot believe allowing the puppy in the unit definately not suitable for a dog of the size it was going to grow to, I was gobsmacked with the fight scene and more gobsmacked when they let that young kid grope and smother it people are too blase about young children and dogs they brag little johnny can do what ever he likes to the dog hit, grope pul lears and fur poke eyes but OH what a wonderful doggy who puts up with it all AH but one day little doggy might have enough and bite when he has had enough then he will be a naughty doggy put to sleep because of ignorant owners But the one bit that actually cracked me up was the plant removal YES we all need to be aware of what is poisonous but no way would someone just start ripping your plants out and it was obvious that those plants were newly out of pots planted for the effect of the programme to this end I viewed this programme as no better than a soap opera Michelle

Having just read the postings on the new puppy vet programme I will now show my ignorance and ask what is crate training I gather it is to do with toilet training and as I have not had to train a new puppy for 15 years plus openly admit I am not up on it at all. Thank you for your replies Michelle

Ignorance is bliss I guess both the pet shop puppy farmers and the public who think they are giving a puppy a home with no thought to the suffering female dog continually pregnant.

How To Put On Weight?
feistylady replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Firstly as already asked what is the vet recommended weight range for Emma be very careful with extra fat because as it is with humans eating too much fat and too many refined carbohydrates can cause the diabetes, and avoiding excess fat and refined carbohydrates helps to control diabetes. I was the day carer until recently for Lochie a 7 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he was on insulin x 2 daily, for his breakfast after the insulin he had a chicken wing, early afternoon he had a small hand ful of kibble and for tea a lovely raw meaty bone. He would eat vegetables and apple and very occasionally a few almonds for a treat I think once weekly his owner gave him egg. Lochie was lean but the vet said this was best his BGL reading was always good, sadly we lost him to liver cancer on 2nd Jan. I wouild not worry too much Good Luck Happy Holidaying Michelle -

Looking For King Charles Spaniel Registered Breeders Sa
feistylady replied to feistylady's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi There, I found this thread and just had to join and comment about this post. Where are these statistics? There must be more than 51 that have been tested? Or are these breeding dogs that have been tested? I find the last comment heartbreaking.. I was so concerned about getting a puppy without MVD or eye problems that I didn't even think to ask about Syringomyelia in the breeding stock. My 2 year old Cavalier has SM. She hasn't escaped, been run over or died. Lucky me. I am so sorry to hear about your Cavalier Victoria -
When my BC cut her paw we put a baby sock on over the bandage and taped around the top, (not too tight). This helped keep the bandage on and clean. Her paw was quite a bit worse than yours, but they heal really quick:) I found the sock idea with the taping also around the top brilliant, when my dog had a cancerous tumour on his paw and I wanted to keep it clean he was never able to remove it. I went through many socks and tape.

It is lovely to see someone wise enough to do research I know you will make a doggie happy in your home what ever it be. I like you am researching buying a pup and in no hurry but I want Cavalier King Charles, I love their temperament, relatively easy coat to keep tidy with regular brushing and an occasional trim I would imagine they would be excellent with children,

I seem to have caused an issue with my questions, I live very close too Roseworthy and listened to a very informative dicussion on 5AA yes I believe they do have MRI I have thought I would head there when I get a pup as they offer the veterinary services although having said that I do have a lovely caring vet in Clare -

why not? overseas breeders are MRI'ing their dogs and declaring whether they are SM free or no. eta some aus breeders are MRI'ing as well JB I certainly am not against MRI in fact this topic is new to me I have not had a puppy in 15 years and have never purchased diirectly from a breeder either as I want to this time. until I started reading up on breeders this week I would not have even known about the heart and eye tests etc and seriously I wonder now how many prospective puppy owners do either they pop into pet shops and see Ads without any thought to this and I am sure many are duped by backyarders. I would be happy for you to find me a Cavalier breeder in SA who does the MRI. I also think this would be a excellent open topic in the forum for all breeders to voice their opinion too. Thankyou for your input Michelle -

Breeders have a duty of care to provide you with a healthy dog. It is simply a matter of finding one who takes that seriously. Was Lochie registered with SACA, and from a reputable breeder? The problems Lochie suffered - diabetes, rashes, cancer can and have all been caused by vaccinosis. Whether this is the cause in Lochie's case is unproven, but consider that, as well as the hereditary factor. Unfortunately, there is no proof either way, but I think it is worth considering. I had looked for a sub forum and had missed it due to it being initialised umm is that a word? and will leave a message shortly Thankyou for that. I seriously realise that I cannot expect breeders to have undertaken a MRI and am happily finding most are having heart, eye checks and will not buy from a breeder who has not at least had these 2 checks and written proof. I think the days of this puppy has been vet checked and vaccinated stated are possibly going to lose sales. I also take an interest in the great debate over vaccinating and that is a real hot potato. Lochie had been bought from a breeder who my friend had rung when diabetes was found and told it was not in the other dogs but then is a breeder going to honestly say yes? So onward I go with my mission to find my baby to make my home once again complete. -

I cannot help with your question but as I am spending quite a bit of time researching breeders in general I have only found those with perhaps 2 different types

Thankyou Steve you make excellent points here, I notice the ones having the heart and eye test I haven't seen any offering MRI. I agree it must be fantastic for breeders to have champions and it is good to see the blood lines but as you say my main concern now looking for a new baby for me is its health and genetics. Lochie who I mentioned in my first post here had insulin dependent Diabetes from a very young age now I know this could be just one of those things but I believe as in us humans that there would have to be a possibility of a hereditary factor. He suffered badly again from rashes and then in the end this damned cancer. He had been fed everything healthy so I couldn't see a factor coming from canned dog food etc. So this is why I am very particular I notice where some breeders want you to prove you are a fit home for the puppies to go to I in turn want them to provide me with a healthy dog.
