  1. Beautiful boy. So sorry to hear, NAO.
  2. Emailed it to you - let me know if you don't receive it.
  3. It seems the freezer cats are the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended.) There is a very well written petition doing the rounds which outlines all of the concerns, and there are some very valid and distressing ones. Last look it had in excess of 23,000 signatures. It took some very brave volunteers to bring this to everyone's attention, and hopefully by doing so, Council will feel very obliged to make some sweeping changes to procedures. I don't think volunteers will be kept out of the pound - by being in the spotlight now, Council needs to embrace volunteers and rescue groups and change their image. Maybe staffing needs to be looked at as well. Thank God I live in a place with a decent Council, very caring Ranger and a pound that does all to reunite or rehome the animals.
  4. What a personality Cookie had! I'm glad he allowed you to live with him and love him eventually :) So sorry to hear you have lost another loved animal, Rayhay.
  5. Such a beautiful girl. I'm sure there will be beautiful memories of her 32 years with you to treasure. So sorry to hear the sad news, Kirislin .
  6. I think Sheena was merely making the point that this wouldn't be some cute little fluffy but a big, maybe scary looking dog and that it wouldn't be the best thing for a two year old. Sheena is an experienced person with dogs and I' m sure she wasn't intending any insult to the bully breeds. I do agree with the points raised in her post.
  7. Thinking of you, Gillybob. Such a hard day for you - I hope you are alright.
  8. You didn't fail him. Read the last sentence of my reply again. I'm sorry you are having a bleak day but try to remember the good times with him.
  9. I've adopted older dogs and had many rescues here. I feel that they live in the moment and adapt to their surroundings after a settling in time, but I also feel that they all come with their baggage and quirks from whatever life they had before. Hence the dog who is scared of men with hats may have been made to feel that way by a previous owner and have an association with that, or curiously, that may have nothing to do with it! As you know, Sars, they all respond to love and good care and I'm sure your boy was truly yours. Even though he may have been interested in prams, etc., I'm not sure what credence we can give that - was he "remembering" something from the past or was he always interested in the movement of prams and children - not necessarily a product of his past ownership. The fact that there is good success in altering behaviours and training more appropriate ones may mean that past ownership is of less consequence that we think (speaking broadly here as all dogs and their situations are different.) I guess what I am trying to say is that your dog, after you adopted him, became your dog and in his little world, you were everything to him.
  10. The puppies are not tiny, they are 4 months and over and vaccinated.
  11. A fitting tribute to a good dog. Sleep well, sweet Punpunya.

Beautiful boy - a handsome, noble face. How wonderful that he was with you for 17 years. Sleep well, Bill.
  13. Hold her memory close, Jules. I also enjoyed reading about your much loved dogs over the years. Sleep well, gentle Renae.
  14. What a great story and ending for the Pei and well done to all involved for checking just that little bit further with the microchip. Sounds like his original owner is more than happy to provide care and medication and pick up where she left off 13 years ago. There are many stories in rescue where people go above and beyond to do the best for the animal. Thanks, Leah, for sharing. Great result.
  15. Lovely memories to keep of Mac, Westiemum.
  16. Great reply, Raineth. This is pretty much what I've tried to do with the little ones I have.
  17. Thanks, Mita, I'll pass on those details and hopefully they can help.
  18. Thanks, Jemappelle. Denise can' t take them at the moment. There doesn't seem to be a rescue section with the NSW Poodle club. As I'm only going on someone's word that they are pure, I thought rescue might be the best thing. They rely on each other and need to stay together also. Poor old girls.
  19. Does anyone do Poodle Rescue anymore - I've been approached about rehoming two pure (according to carer) female poodles, desexed and vaccinated and born 2002. Any information would be great!
  20. I'm sorry, Gillybob. Enjoy every day with your girl.
  21. That's good your vet is ringing the specialist to get his opinion. I'm certainly no expert on cushings or anything but from what I've learnt, a vastly increased appetite is one of the symptoms but you said Anna wasn't eating very much - I agree it sounds like something else might be going on. Sending good thoughts, hope you can find out what is wrong with Anna.
  22. Gillybob, I had a rescue dog with Cushings, which is when there is too much of a hormone called cortisol. She had the ACTH stimulation test which measures how well the adrenal glands work. I did a lot of searching on this when this dog came to me and the vet told me that there are two types - tumour on the pituitary gland or a tumour on the adrenal gland - with the adrenal one, there could be a possibility of surgery. My dog was booked in for an ultrasound to determine what type she had but she also had other unfixable problems and passed away before we could do the ultrasound. It requires a bit of maintenance and tweaking of the medication to get the right dose, and the meds are a bit expensive but they can live a reasonably normal life. I hope Anna has a good outcome, and I recommend the ultrasound to determine what is happening to her and how you go from there.
  23. This has been going on for years. My local pound has a volunteer walking program and it is enjoyable for the dogs and walkers - what a load of rubbish that the walkers can't enjoy themselves at the same time! Until they start working with all rescues, allow the public to see the dogs and put them up for adoption, not just a selected few to make it look good, dump the antidepressants down the sink and start exercising the dogs and providing enrichment activities, many dogs will continue to die. It makes me sick that this is nothing new and is just inhumane behaviour on the part of the Management of this facility.
