ARF rehomed 163 dogs in 2012. 85 were make and 78 were female - pretty even.

Wow, that is awesome! Very inspiring

As a foster carer I've had heaps of different dogs come through my house (usually entire to start with and some on heat) and it's never been a problem. Dogs will be able to smell another dogs presence whether you've washed stuff or not. The scent will be on walls, curtains and pretty much everything. Fortunately they adapt pretty easily. Good luck!

Yeah, I had to turn it off. I love to see amazing fit dogs but that shit it nuts!

North Korea releases bizarre video of military dogs attacking effigy of enemy minister as they again threaten to attack North Korea today released a bizarre video of their military dogs attacking an effigy of an enemy minister and again threatened to attack their neighbours. The animals savage a model of South Korean defence minister Kim Kwan-Jin in the propaganda clip shown on state television. In the video, the military dogs can also be seen jumping through a flaming hole as they are put through their paces in training. In the new propaganda video troops can also be seen using the South Korean defence minister's face as target practice. At the very end of the clip the effigy is destroyed with a rocket launcher. It is unclear when and where the video, released by North Korea's official news agency KCNA, was filmed. Daily Mail

Country Pound Pups - 15 Of Them! 18 Now
Burkes replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Thank dog there aren't any photos... I'm already really upset that we can't fit in the 4 from Broken Hill... Seriously, we are completely chokkers with pups right now, and if we took more before moving some of this lot on, we really couldn't give them all the amount of socialisation they need to become great little canine citizens before adoption... we have to set limits, as hard as that is for us. As for names for the BT pups - only the boy has a name so far... Mojo... my friend has a gorgeous male dog with that name and I asked her permission to name our boy after him (even though they aren't of the same breed) T. I don't know how you even do that many! Thankfully all 6 are now safe with ARF -

Ahhhhhhh, they are all sooooo gorgeous! Great work guys! -
My foster failure stayed because she is really hard to rehome. She jumps 6ft fencing and doesn't want to live with kids. We tried for 10mths and had 63 enquiries for her - all unsuitable. She fits in perfectly with me and my gang, especially now my fences are all detention centre standard height  Thats her in the middle when we decided to adopt. Gracie - my 42kg fence jumping Wookie:) A fantastic foster sibling and awesome friend.

Want to make it 23 - there are 6 at Yass! Muhahahahahaha -
If I remember correctly Bronchi Shield is a live virus so yeah, another dog could catch it off the vaccinated dog. Its the one they squirt up the nose right? I'm pretty sure when I first started fostering my vet recommended keeping the dog who was treated separate from my own dogs for 24hrs.

My last two foster pups have had demodex and like Ams, the Ivomec and malaseb baths have worked for both of them. With the last one I fed Vets All Natural Sensitive Skin with raw meat and omega oil and I also massaged coconut oil into the patchy parts of skin. NO idea if it helped but he did recover a lot quicker than the first one. Has the vet been doing regular skin scrapings? Mine have always been checked every 4 weeks.

Elderly Dogs Needing A Home
Burkes replied to Monteba's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
About a month ago I took in the almost 10 year old Rotty from Griffith pound who had only just had a litter 5wks before entering the pound. She was blind in one eye and had a lot of old lady lumps. The most heartwarming thing was how many enquiries I got for her. I probably could have rehomed her five times over, she moved out after three weeks in care. She was just the most perfect dog, I kinda wish I'd kept her. Love the oldies and so far I havent' found them hard to rehome. Maggie :D -

Ohhhhh, they are gorgeous!!! -
I've had it for three years and I love it. Yep, in summer it gets hot but no hotter than anything else around it, my dogs love to go and sunbake on it. Mine has a smell if you stick your nose on it, but not when you are just out in the garden. I'm a foster carer so can have up to 4 large dogs peeing on it too. Get the good quality one and get a professional to lay it so it drains properly.

The mid-north coast of NSW is a far cry from Beijing. But Kristie Bates has something in common with China's highest flying residents: a love of the Tibetan mastiff. One of the enormous dogs snoozed on stage on Saturday at a dog show in Baoding, a few hours' drive from Beijing. It didn't need to put on a show, despite an asking price of 5 million yuan ($790,000). ''This is the greatest dog in China,'' breeder Yao Yi said. Mastiffs have become a prized status-symbol amongst China's wealthy, with rich buyers across the country sending prices skyrocketing. Ms Bates, from Jangbu Tibetan Mastiffs, said pet puppies typically sold in the Australian market for between $2500 and $3500, while show dogs sold for $5000 or $6000. Advertisement She said even the prospect of earning $1 million could not tempt her to sell her dogs to China. "In China they breed them to be quite ferocious. They also don't socialise them and can sometimes keep them in poor living environments," she said. Tibetan mastiffs have become a prized status symbol among China's wealthy, with rich buyers sending prices skyrocketing. One red mastiff named Big Splash, reportedly sold for 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) in 2011. Owners say the mastiffs, descendants of dogs used by nomadic tribes in central Asia for hunting, are fiercely loyal and protective. Breeders still travel to the Himalayan Plateau to collect puppies. ''It takes over a month to drive back from Tibetan areas with the dogs,'' said Wang Fei, a breeder in Beijing, who collects white puppies from western China. Most of them were unable to adjust to low altitudes and died during the journey. Zhang's wealthiest clients included the owners of coalmines in northern China, he said. ''One buyer paid for a dog with a 30,000 yuan Omega watch and a car, just for a small dog.'' Intensive breeding had led to inbreeding and some vendors injected glucose into their dogs' legs to make them appear stronger, the Global Times daily reported. Brisbane Times

We (ARF) offer a 3 week trial/settling in period but the dog can only go to their new home when the new owners officially adopt the dog It would then be their responsiblity to pay any vet bills as it is their dog. If things don't work out and the dog has to be returned during the trail period then the adoption fee would be refunded and the adoption agreement destroyed. Lyn I'm confused how do you offer. 3 week trial without the dog goimg to its new home? We remain the legal owners while the dogs are on trial as trying to get all paperwork back once it's been handed over to new owners is a royal PITA. If you transfer ownership when the dog goes on trail what do you do about the paperwork of the dog is returned? Are you suggesting sending the dog with its paperwork when the dog goes on trial but if the dog comes back you won't refund the adoption fee unless it comes with all it's paperwork? Hmm that's an option I hadn't considered. The problem Iggy rescue has had is that we have told new owner that if dog requires emergency treatment then get it to a vet and stablise it. But contact us for permission for any other vet work (if you want us to pay for it). The new owner in question took the dog to the vet and authorized blood tests etc without our permission as in her mind that was apparently "stabilizing" the dog. I'm pissed off to say the least as we had spelled out to this owner the process re:vet work. The dog did not need blood tests done for a life saving situation, dam dog is just fine all tests are clear as we knew they would be. This is an interstate adoption, 3 hrs drive from our nearest rescue vet. So I am in a quandary as to what to do. Clearly I need to rewrite our policy regarding vet bills for dogs who are on trial. I feel like the owner knew she was ignoring our policy but went ahead anyway, her excuse was that she tried to call us and couldn't get through to us. However she called once and the dog was not in a life threatening situation. I have no probs with her taking it to the vet for a consult if she was worried about its health. Is the lab work and antibiotics which are frustrating. The dog was not sick it was simply stressed from the travel. I am weary of dealing with stuff like this. We had a new carer last year who was fostering with a view to adopt that insisted on taking the dog to her own vet, not our rescue vet. She subsequently racked up $700 worth of vet work on said dog then demanded we pay the bill. We ended up paying half the bill. This lady returned the dog to us and then got nasty. Ultimately we are going to go broke and the rescue will fold if we can't work out some solution to issues like these. Yeah ARF's is officially called a Return/Settling in Period so they sign the adoption agreement and pay the day the dog is handed over. They are then legally the new owner. Fortunately they rarely come back so we don't have too many issues. In relation to foster carers all vet work must be approved by the vet liaison officer before being done. Foster carers will apply to have any work done by email and then the vet liaison will call/email the vet and approve. In emergencies they can call her or another member of the committee for approval. Our vets are pretty good too and know to get approval for anything out of the ordinary. Happy to share our adoption agreement which outlines vetwork after adoption etc if you want?

Ohhhh, I've always wanted a Ruthless shoot as well. Count me in. -
What sort of media event was it? Was it the right occasion to be thanking individuals? Did they definately not mention you or did the media just not show it? But for sure, a foster carer day would be awesome.

If you are hesitant about it, I would say no. You could always foster a dog to see how things change once you add a second dog in?
